and to me, it would make the team substantially better.
But I don't know man, the baseball people in the front office wouldn't trade Ohtani because they thought they had a chance to make the postseason and liked their chances at retaining the superstar, yet most of the players knew all along he was gone.
The disconnected from the people down on the ground and those in the front office is mind boggling.

Captivating stuff as per usual with this team. Arte really seems to be embracing the villain role

Jesus, this sucks. Lowered payroll, kept Ohtani for “fan entertainment” and there’s no ballpark plan. Why is he keeping the team then? There is no plan.

Trading any long term assets (Ward, Moniak, Silseth, etc…) for one year of anyone is exactly what the Angels shouldnt do, especially for a middle infielder.  This team has potential, but they are not one piece away.

Yeah, I don’t think they add to chances, but I think a scenario where Silseth is the #6 option helps the Angels chances overall simply by affording them depth, especially since Silseth could impact either the pen or the rotation. I don’t want them neglecting depth, counting too much on kids, and then we wind up in a position where a couple rotation injuries leads to us rushing Dana or banking on someone like Kochanowicz or Mederos to make 20 GS.
Essentially what I’m saying is that I really think if the Angels contend this year, it will be because of a combo of good depth and internal improvements, and I think both of those are helped by guys like Silseth and Bachman starting  in the rotation in the minors to begin the season, as well as guys like Joyce in AAA. I just don’t want to open the year thin, and Silseth being the #5 does that IMO. Same reason why I’m glad they’ve also bumped all the young relievers to AAA. It is only a good thing to have depth like that in April. The vets they’ve added are easily cheap enough to dump if opportunity knocks, be it Anderson, Hicks, Cisnero, Cimber. It’s important to add guys like that though in case they hit on any.

I think Anderson can and will be better. I’m not against Silseth starting as the 5th SP, but I think we’d be setting up our very remote contention chances for failure if we had SP depth that thin. I think Silseth starting in AAA and as the first guy up wouldn’t hurt anything - he’ll get a chance by mid-year either by someone being injured or someone being ineffective. I don’t know that they need to go multi-year for a FA SP, but fully support a 1-year vet FA SP stopgap.

Nah, I’d rather sign one of those two, he’ll both of them if we don’t get a big name guy, and trade them at the deadline.

I think they've been pretty smart this offseason. Obviously the media and the average fan is going to be like lol Angels but strengthening the pen and adding actual depth for AAA is something this org has needed to do for years now.
They still have work to do but I think Perry has done ok so far this offseason.

I think both Adell and Moniak will surprise many this season. Both have good seasons with 25 to 30 HR. Halos will form new identity with the young 5.

A budding franchise cornerstone for every team:
    https://www.mlb.com/news/every-mlb-team-potential-franchise-cornerstone
    Angels: Logan O’Hoppe, C
    Age on Opening Day: 24
You can take your pick among O’Hoppe, first baseman Nolan Schanuel, shortstop Zach Neto (or even Mickey Moniak, if you’re feeling frisky), but O’Hoppe looks like the one most likely to be an All-Star in the next few years. For all the worries about the Angels’ farm system, it should be said that they have those four players (all 25 or under) in their lineup, plus Reid Detmers and Chase Silseth in their projected rotation.

If they hate Nolan and Moniak but found value in Cabbage, then I think you can comfortably say they are morons.

Yes,I keep thinking a couple moves and we’re pretty competitive.
I also think prices are going to drop.
Belllinger 6 year deal Clevinger and Anderson on 1 year option deals. I’d jump on Bauer too.

One thing is clear, Urshela doesn’t have nearly the power hitting that he had with the Skanks.
His plate patience has never been anything solid too, and decreased as well in 2023.    He relies mainly on BA for OBP.
He is a step up from Fletcher, post-2020, and plays many positions.
Just as long as the one year offer is for no more than a few million.

My guess is we are not going to agree.  But are you telling me that Rendon, who has traditionally been an excellent defender at third base, isn’t capable of playing first base at least adequately?  I mean, it seems like Rendon’s biggest problem defensively has become throwing accuracy, where at first base that would be masked.
Ward is a little tougher to project being good enough, but normally a guy that can play three OF positions, has already played some third, and is a former catcher PROBABLY can handle first base, don’t you think?
Plus we are talking about Ward being the fourth person on the depth chart.  Personally I don’t have the expectation that the fourth person in the depth chart at the position be anything more than a stopgap fill in temporarily.

Wouldn’t it be an awesome story if both brothers pitched and pitched effectively out of the Angels bullpen at the same time?

Let me start off by saying Rendon is a stupid moron with an ugly face and a big butt and his butt smells and he likes to kiss his own butt.
Matt Chapman plays 3rd base. He plays 3rd base well.
"But tdawg, we already HAVE a 3rd baseman!"
Please refer to the top of the page. Also there's some statistical nerd shit that I'd like to share.
Fangraphs really likes Matt Chapman in 2024. These are his current ZIPS projections:
    .240 AVG, 25 HR, .339 wOBA, 117 wRC+, 4.0 WAR.
And remember, ZIPS is generally on the conservative side (Taylor pls) when it comes to projections.
You know who Fangraphs doesn't like as much for 2024? Cody Bellinger. His ZIPS projections:
    .267 AVG, 19 HR, .327 wOBA, 109 wRC+, 2.8 WAR.
Yes, Bellinger is younger. Yes he's a LHH. But he's almost certainly going to get a much larger contract than Chapman.
Now what do we do with Rendon, then?
Bat him DHth. Take him off the field and lower the boo-boo risk. Give him a day off once a week so Trout can DH. God I'm such a genious.
And although it's very unlikely, signing Chapman as opposed to Bellinger might give the Angels enough freedom to go after Snell or Montgomery as well. Again, highly unlikely and I know I just set off an alarm at @Inside Pitch's house by suggesting we forfeit 2 draft picks but I'm going balls deep here, man.
Anyway, what are your thoughts on signing Chapman as opposed to a guy like Bellinger? Am I an idiot? Yes. Should we stay away from any big contracts for hitters? Focus on pitching?
