  1. Great move. If we’re giving Walsh the chance to redefine what a UT man is, doesn’t hurt to give Cowart the same chance. Cowart plays more positions and is better at those positions than Walsh anyhow. Imagine if they both excel this spring and we have two active two-way players this year.

  2. How often do teams get a chance to add a 26-year-old superstar, who will only get better, and not lose any prospect currency in doing so?

How often is one of the top catchers in baseball with multiple years of team control on the trade market?

These are moves the Angels can make to provide immediate and long-term help.

  3. We should be competing in 2019. We should make the necessary moves to make that happen.

    1. Sign Machado

    2. Trade for Realmuto

    3. Sign a Starter (Reliable: Sabathia, Wild Card: Harvey)

Those moves ensure we compete for 2019. By 2020, we have some internal upgrades (Canning and Adell should become key contributors) and can fill other spots as needed.

I don’t see Upton being in the Angels outfield plans in the future anyways. I would imagine he will be the full time DH after Albert leaves. All things considered.

What about Ohtani? That's why I would like to see him traded while it is still possible. He will eventually not have a spot here with Ohtani taking DH at-bats and Marsh and Adell looking more and more like future contributors.

I keep reading this, but no way are we trading upton.

First, hes super expensive and in his 30s...so whereas a team midseason might want him for a playoff push, i dont think his market would be huge in the offseason.

Two, we just signed him...im not 100 percent sure, but i imagine he has a long list of no trade teams.

Good point. I would like to get rid of him tbh. Towards the end of his contract, he will be a second Pujols, not doing much other than eating money and blocking young players like Marsh from having a spot.

I do believe Adell has a good chance at being a superstar. I think the Trout/Harper comparisons are a bit of a stretch - those are two hitters who will go down among the best 50 in baseball history. But an Upton-esque ceiling is definitely in play. And that's the thing...the Angels could have Harper, Trout, and Upton already here. We have Marsh, Knowles, Adams, and maybe even Jones still here. Any of those guys could above-average OF still. Flanked by Trout and Harper. Hell, there's still a chance Ohtani winds up a part-time or full-time OF depending on how he develops (and no, I'm not saying he stops pitching either). If there was any team that had the luxury to turn a blue chip prospect like Adell into a dire organizational need like a SP, it'd be an Angel club with Trout, Ohtani, and Harper.

If we signed Harper, I would rather see us trade Upton for a good starting pitcher and hold onto Adell still. Sign Markakis as a stop gap for the next 1-2 years while Adell develops.

Can you imagine how OP an Adell-Trout-Harper outfield would be?

You know who is as good as Taillon right now? And costing league-minimum?
    Jameson Taillon.

I definitely agree that Tallion would be a great pick up. I'm just not too keen on the idea of giving up Canning and/or Adell to get him. These are two guys with a lot of upside and I would rather take a chance or them developing into the best they can be.

You get two reliable bullpen arms and hope someone steps up as closer because I don't see Blake Parker keeping the job.

You get a decent innings eater in Lynn and hope someone steps up to be a front of the rotation guy because the Angels can't afford to buy one.

Sounds like a lot of wishful thinking, to be honest. Odds are, no one will magically become an ace or shutdown closer we need. We need to look for help from the outside and get someone that IS good. Not just hope someone will swoop in and save the day

  9. My Ideal Plan

    - For the luxury tax payroll, the $162.77 million according to Jeff Fletcher is the actual amount of present obligations for the 2019 Season.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Q7dlNaSqB4vip6QD88MCaahpPjiZrS7dgOam_TrElLg/edit#gid=0

    - The luxury tax threshold, which owner Arte Moreno has indicated as the spending limit in years past, is $206 million for 2019, leaving roughly $44 million to be played with.

    1. Sign Manny Machado -to a 10/350 mil contract. (35 mil aav, 9 mil left)

    2. Trade for JT Realmuto - for Jones, Suarez, and Ward (Realmuto is projected to make $7 mil in 2019, 2 mil left)

    3. Mike trout extension

    4. Eric Chavez as the new manager

    Lineup

    1. Simmons - SS

    2. Realmuto - C

    3. Trout - CF

    4. Machado - 3B

    5. Ohtani - DH

    6. Upton - LF

    7. Calhoun RF

    8. Thaiss/Pujols - 1B

    9.  Fletcher/Cozart - 2B

    Bench:

    C - Arcia

    IF - Fletcher/Cozart

    1B - Thaiss/Pujols

    OF - EYJ

    Rotation

    1. Skaggs

    2. Heaney

    3. Barria

    4. Pena

    5. Shoemaker

    Optional moves:

Trade Calhoun and Cozart for scraps/payroll dump ( Free's roughly 23 million, 25 mil in total)

Sign Markakis to 1 year deal for 12 mil, team option for 2nd year. (13 mil left)

    Sign Ottavino to 2/18 mil

  10. I think it's a great idea to try and bring him in. By the looks of it, he will demand a similar contract to Corbin. The Angels need another SP and Kikuchi is the youngest one on the market and has the best upside. If Ohtani can reach out to Kikuchi much like Trout reached out to Ohtani, even better.
