  1. wow, this is the new proposed uniform design fro the 2020 astros. it'll look amazing in orange instead of gray.
  2. all of this animus towards the astros seems so misplaced. that was really just a big wrinkle on altuve's jersey. and he didn't want his teammates adding more wrinkles to his jersey by grabbing at it after his completely legit home run. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  3. it's been more than 3 years since i cut cable. comes to about $3000 i've been able to put to much better use. i quit paying for coffee 4X/week right around the same time, so that's another $600 or so saved. the only reason i could see going back is if somehow the m's were ever able to contend....so probably around 2049. so i'm looking at about $30,000 in savings during that time. but seriously. give it a try. that's my advice to people on the fence about cord cutting.
  4. cameron diaz is nicole ritchie's sister in law, and just had a son she named Radish.
  5. the guy who teaches in the room across from me can most often be seen leaning back in his chair, rhythmically rubbing the back of his head against the wall when there are no students in his room. and a guy down the hall loves to tell people that ronald reagan should have been appointed president for life. he's a football coach i mean social studies teacher, and can't even count to twenty-two, so there it is.
  6. literally the only thing I'm curious about regarding this movie. maybe i'll enjoy jet chases and all that, but i can wait until it's free on tv in a year or two.
  7. not sure the need to be a c*nt regarding my comment since you said yourself that you greatly increased the spice content. the spices you added made it a lot more authentic, which means it smells like dirty armpit? fucking idiot, lol.
  8. the only thing i'm curious about is how they're going to try to make val kilmer not look like a 70 year-old lesbian i can see that just looking up stills
  9. i liked the 2-parter finale hope s2 is a bit grittier, but it's disney, so probably not
  10. quite possibly the least indian dish i've ever seen posted as indian cuisine, lol. only thing it was missing is "curry powder"
  11. if only everybody who lived in shall-issue states were firearms instructors. i'd be fine with the entire country being shall-issue if everybody with a permit were professionally trained to use firearms, which quite literally means thousands of dollars of supervised training firing live rounds. it's maybe 1 in 1000 right now. glad this turned out well. “The only clear shot I had was his head because I still had people in the pews that were not all the way down as low as they could,” Wilson told the AP. "That was my one shot.”
  12. through 7 episodes of S4 of The Expanse. Amazon really upped the budget, and the show still has a pretty intriguing narrative and main cast. Will be watching the final 3 eps on my plane rides over the next week.
  13. face mask helps a lot of people because of the total darkness. i use one on plane rides when i want to sleep. also for b6, i don't take it every night. about once a week is all i figured out i need to help me with keeping my sleep schedule. it also gives me super trippy dreams. they're not unpleasant, just wtf trippy. and i usually don't even remember my dreams.
  14. B6 and making sure i have zero ambient light or light from clocks/tv/etc have been helpful for me.
  15. today i learned that the only way to avoid "hollow" movies about corporate greed is to employ actors who don't make millions doing their jobs. holy fuck people are stupid, lol.
  16. The Good Place is terrific. Binged S1-3 a few months back, and will binge S4 when it's done. Episode 5 of The Mandalorian was better than 4, but I think the show's writing team (Favreau) doesn't really know what kind of show they were making. Are they doing a self-contained coherent story arc built on character every season like The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, etc? Or are they going for a serialized, easy-to-consume-for-all-demographics type show? Feels like the former rather than the latter to me so far, which is a shame.
  17. it was supposed to be 12:01 CST, actually, but they just published scores about 10 minutes ago. i certified, and now i'm going to sleep for about 30 hours. fuck.
  18. in a nutshell, we submit about 100 pages of written commentary explaining how our teaching practice impacts our students positively in a variety of settings using student work samples to support it, submit two 15-minute videos demonstrating our teaching practice in our specific subject areas (mine is English for 14-18 year olds), and show how we work with our colleagues and parents/guardians to impact students in our schools. costs $2000 to submit our work, but some states (not cali, shocker) give monetary bonuses for certifying. some studies have shown that board certified teachers have a stronger impact on student learning than non-certified teachers. not many studies, though, because nobody who can afford commissioning a great double-blind, placebo-controlled study is interested in public education (again, shocker). it's rigorous enough that most states don't require board certified teachers to go through the process of re-certifying in a new state. took me 10 minutes to write this which brings my wait time for scores down to a little over an hour. thank you for the time suck!
  19. thanks, tank and blarg heavily on my mind, and i'm a little ashamed of it, but that's what the internet is for 2 hours
  20. the underlying theme for mine was The Beatles, Dylan, and Morrison. i didn't listen to much else over the last year or so.
  21. i get my national board results back in 11 hours. sent all of my videos and over a hundred pages of writing and student work samples back in may, and finally about to get the results. knew i'd be nervous, but not this nervous. it's a $10K bonus per year, so it'll be pretty nifty if i pass. needless to say, i'll be having some drinks tonight while i wait.
  22. Nothing says Merry Xmas like giving your anorexic/thyroid-impaired wife an exercise bike. Gotta shed that extra .025% of body fat, right? Obviously, she has never ridden a bike or exercised in her life, so I can see why she was terrified about her first lesson....as her "super nice", "supportive", "loving", "giving" husband watched over her. And then showing her gratitude by showing her progress losing that .025% of body fat over a full year just to make sure Mr. Sleeping With the Enemy approves...super festive!
  23. I didn't care much for episode 4 of The Mandalorian. Felt too canned/hero of the week to me.
  24. Which of the following is grammatically correct, and why? - Tom is faster than me. - Tom is faster than I. The answer is the 2nd one because the word "than" is a marker for a new independent clause, and "I" is the subject of the new independent clause. But it's rare to see anybody write "Tom is faster than I" because it looks and sounds stupid. I never correct myself when writing or saying it even though I know the rules of subject and object pronouns. It's even worse when you use plural pronouns. - Tom is faster than them. - Tom is faster than they. Yep, the 2nd one is correct grammatically, but nobody says or writes it because it looks and sounds so stupid because it's so normal to hear and see it written or spoken incorrectly. And yeah, breaking kids of their incorrect apostrophe usage is pretty hard. You use an apostrophe to show possession, omission, or a contraction. The only exception to the rule is its/it's. But publications to this day differ over how they use an apostrophe in a sentence like this: The progressive tax has been around in the United States since the 1860's/1860s. I've seen major publication use 1860's, and others use 1860s. 1860 possesses nothing in the above sentence, and it's not a contraction. So why use the apostrophe there? Same thing with shortening something like 1960s to '60s. The apostrophe rule works with that because the apostrophe is replacing omitted numbers, but I've seen major publications type that as 60's. I love grammar and usage discussions about English because it's such a weird language.
