Baseball America: Don't sleep on Griffin Canning in 2024
Vlad27Trout27 replied to Chuck's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
For Canning the stuff has always been there, for me it has always been about limiting the homerun ball. The stuff is there for him to be a 2/3. My predicition for him will be: 24G, 11-6, 3.56 Era in 134 innings. -
Honesty I'd rather save that 25 + Mil for Burnes next year. My Ideal scenario would be to get Snell, Sign Woodruff on a 2 year deal, Sign a few 1 year contract to fill out the position player needs (Duvail, Pham..etc) 2024 Rotation: 1. Snell, Canning, Sandy, Detmers, Anderson 2025 rotation (Hopefully) 1. Burnes, Snell, Woodruff, and the rest.

What the Angels need to do to be competitive for a Wild Card.

I've warmed up to the idea of Montgomery . Snell is a risk, but if his price tag falls around 25mil its worth considering I'd stay away from offer any big contracts to position players. just offer I big contract to either Montegomery or Snell and than save the rest of the money for next free agency. Next I'd sign Pederson to a 1 year deal. back-up outfields, a little bit of 1st and DH finally finish up the Bp by adding Robertson With that said, we also need our roster to step-up 1. Trout needs to give us a healthy 135 games, spread between Outfield, Dh and rest. Detmers, We really need him to take that next step. He needs to be a guy closer to 150+ innings, 3.45 to 3.65 ERA guy this year Sandy, Needs to rebound. We saw a little bit towards the end of last year. Canning, needs to limit the HR ball Anderson, just needs to eat innings and pitch in the low to mid 4s ERA Rendon needs to care Ward will be interesting to see how he does. I think the injury will have effects on him. -
Honesty I would round this the BP by signing Robertson. Bring in that veteran experiences and a guy that can close.

Still a lot of good Free agents left on the market. Not sure I'm feeling the potential Duval Signing, would prefer for us to take a 1 year deal on conforoto or Pederson as backup Outfielders/DH at about 11 mil per year. Offer one big contract to the Big guys (Snell, Monte) Add to the Bp, adds a a solid 7th,8th and 9th inning. 1. Stephenson 2. Davidson

2024 Sleepers and Busts: Los Angeles Angels
Vlad27Trout27 replied to Second Base's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
There no doubt that he has a good fastball with high spin that can hit 96/97. But most of the time it'll be in the 92-95 range and hitters adjust. I feels like he needs to pitch in the entire strike zone, move his pitches around and throw more of that plus-plus curve to offset his Fastball and Slider. -
Honesty I feel like this free agency we got to get at least 1 big signee to set us up for next season. For me it Snell, he a front of the rotation arm that we badly need and potentially set us up nicely next year to grab another front of the rotation arm. Now the downside is that is market seems to be dead/limited and he is a Boras guy. So, it may drag on, but I would be surprise if he get 30mil a year, I think he be mostly looking around 25 to 27 mil per year I.e similar to the Rodon contract. After that take a shot on Woodruff 2 years 30 mil contract. Fix up the BP, sign Moore and Robertson (16 to 18 mil combined)

2024 Sleepers and Busts: Los Angeles Angels

I think Sandy will rebound this upcoming season. whatever the pitching staff, analytics department and coaches were trying it flat out did not work and everyone regressed. Going forward I think We'll get a guy that has an ERA between 3.60 to 3.90 while giving you a solid 140 to 150ish innings. Next up I have Detmer, he just to good to be over 4 ERA guy in my books. His stuff is that good !he has no hit stuff, and a hammer curve that he needs to use more. Personally I believes he just needs to alter his pitch usage. Last year he threw 43% fastball, 31% sliders, and 19% curves. basically 74% of his pitcher were the hard stuff and hitter will adjust. I feel like bringing that FB usage down to 35%, and Curve up to 25% with a few more changes could help him. Next, I think instead of mostly going up and down in the zone, he needs to work all for 4 corners of the strike-zone. I think he has the stuff to be 3.20 to 3.50 ERA guy. -
I have Low-expectations for Rendon going into the season. But I would not mind seeing trying him out at leadoff to hopefully get the most with his lack/concern of power and having him hit in front of Trout could help. He still gets on base and does not strike out a lot.

I going to say that Rada and Dana will both be in the top 50 by mid-season. I also think that Dana will be our top prospect, followed by Rada and then Kent. By Mid-season; Dana will show that he has the upside of a #2 With Grades: Fastball (60), Curve: (60), Change (55), Slider 50, Command (50) Overall: 55 Comp: Corbin Burnes Ceiling: #2 Rada: Will be a table setting and an ideal lead-off hitter with 30+ SB. Grades: Hit (60), power (40), Run (65), Def (55) Overall 55 Comp: Jacoby Ellsbury Kent I'm going to sneak Kent in as well. Reports have been that he worked on strength and conditiong, mostly in the lower half this offseason. He has 4 average to above-average pitches that could improved. Can't wait to see how he does. Grades Fastball (55), Slider (55), Change (50), Curve (45), Command (50), Overall 50 Surprises: Mederos; His brief cup of coffee reminded me a lot of how G-Rich's went. I bring up G-rich as Mederos stuff and commands reminds me a lot of Richards. I think they'll be more refinement of command and stuff and a surprise waiting to happen. Kochanowicz, I really cannot wait to see how he does next season. he has the potential to be a middle of the rotation arm or a power pitcher. We will see him in 2024. Next step for him will be refinement of his command and stuff, plus setting and finishing hitter with stuff outside of the zone Disappointment Bachman, I just don't think he'll stay healthy enough in either roles Paris, I think the high strike-out rates will not do any benefits for hi,,

I am really excited to see how Dana does next year. if everything clicks he could finish the year at AA, and have shot at the MLB the following year. He has a high spin fastball that rates as plus, mixed in with a curve that could also be plus. He still needs to refine his command/control and a 3rd pitch to reach his ceiling as a #2. I think his change has a chance to be another plus pitch to give him 3 really good pitch. Honestly I have a more of a Corbin Burnes comp for him.
