  1. Other than Jim Rice, Pujols is the only one in the Top 14 to play less than 20 season, both at 16 seasons. So he was more efficient with his GIDPs.
  2. It was a home game, tied going into the 9th. There wouldn't be a save opportunity for Street anyway.
  3. Coens are also my favorite directors. Had seen all Coen movies before, but a couple months ago, I marathoned all their movies in about two week span, in order. Good times. The Ladykillers and Intolerable Cruelty are their only movies I count as a "low" points, but still above average.
  4. Last I heard, he is a member of the AAA Club in New York. Very happy with his roadside assistance.
  5. I can confirm this via a GroupMe message from a buddy I received.
  6. Yeah, I've been trying to find time to go see it and have been very curious about it since TIFF last year. Have heard some comparisons to it being like a more violent Assault on Precinct 13 which I coincidentally rewatched recently . The director made a movie I believe two years ago called Blue Ruin which I'd recommend but have heard the tone to Green Room as a lot more fast paced
  7. I don't remember that call when Soto hit his HR in Oakland. Then again, that was a 9th inning game-saving/winning HR, so maybe silliness wasn't in order then.
  8. I've been trying to find a day to go see it for like the last three weeks. Went and saw Midnight Special a couple weeks ago and tried to make it a double feature with this but ended up having to go home to the wife and kids after just one. Hoping to go soon before it leaves local theaters. Reviews for this have been great and has been said to be close to the level of Dazed and Confused. Hoping to see this and Green Room (which just opened up wide finally) both within the next week or so.
  9. My son has been on a huge Tim Burton Batman obsession recently, so a ton of "Partyman" and "Trust" playing throughout the whole day for the past few weeks. Not the biggest Prince fan admittedly, but do have a few of his albums on my iPod. Sucks that he's gone.
  10. Googled her to see who she was since I missed the game and came across this gem of a comment: twrightfashion about a month ago You ****ing don't deserve to be on ESPN. The only reason you're on is because you're a woman. 21st century sissies gotta be PC. It's because of you're gender and they need to appease women that you're on and not because of talent. Don't get used to it. You don't deserve it. Stick to softball. We don't want you. People are great.
  11. Yeah, I love It Happened One Night and His Girl Friday as well. Would have to look into the others. Others I like not mentioned above: Palm Beach Story Sullivan's Travels To Be Or Not To Be Midnight Easy Living Really loving a lot of Preston Sturges and Ernst Lubtisch films. Also, after seeing a few The Thin Man movies, Libeled Lady, and Mr. Blandings Builds a Dream House, I've developed a crush on Myrna Loy.
  12. So I spent the past month or so just watching a ton of movies from the 1930s. The highlights: The Awful Truth The Thin Man Angels with Dirty Faces Trouble in Paradise Ninotchka The Public Enemy Bringing Up Baby Ruggles of Red Gap The Blue Angel Destry Rides Again The Roaring Twenties Holiday Footlight Parade Captain Blood Scarface Realized I'm a pretty big screwball comedy fan and enjoy some James Cagney as well
  13. If you enjoy The Town and feel like checking out an older 70s movie...would recommend checking out The Friends of Eddie Coyle starring Robert Mitchum and Peter Boyle. Pretty clearly one or the inspirations for The Town.
  14. Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia is classic Peckinpah, not sure I'd categorize as guilty pleasure. Great nonetheless. I did watch Strange Brew yesterday for the first time and thought it was great. Seems fitting here.
  15. What are some noir/crime/thriller books you'd recommend? I've recently started reading heavily over the last couple years, and these type of books are some of my favorites. I've read a few Elmore Leonard already (Rum Punch, Out of Sight), Dashiell Hammet (Red Harvest, Maltese Falcon), The Big Sleep, Friends of Eddie Coyle, Silence of the Lambs, James M. Cain (Postman Always Rings Twice, Double Indemnity), etc. I have a pretty decent list of stuff I've plan to read, just curious if there's anything in particular you'd recommend that I should bump up to the top?
  16. Currently reading What Makes Sammy Run? by Budd Schulberg Almost done and it's awesome. Manages to be great despite focusing on a very unlikable character. Focuses on the cutthroat, do anything to get ahead , 1940s Hollywood studio system written by someone who was the son of film producer and studio executive and who also wrote the screenplays for On the Waterfront and A Face in the Crowd. Ben Stiller had wanted to adapt it but with no luck, and Spielberg has openly said it "should never be made" into a movie because of how anti-Hollywood it seems. Also has been accused of being anti-Semitic. I could see someone like Scorsese making a solid movie out of this, somewhere along the lines of Wolf of Wall Street.
  17. I've started rewatching all their movies this month in chronological order, currently sitting on No Country next. Would definitely recommend giving Miller's Crossing another look if it's been a long time. I remember liking it the first time I saw it about 10 years ago, but my appreciation for it rose a ton this time around. Might have helped that I've recently read Dashiel Hammett's The Glass Key and Red Harvest over the last year, so might have put me in the right headspace. Turturro is amazing in it.
  18. Same here. My 1-8 ranking would be in strong consideration for some of my favorite movies of all-time in general. And then the rest outside of the bottom few, I like a lot and come back to and re-watch often. Their style, sense of humor, dialogue, meticulously constructed chaos of a lot of their movies just completely aligns with my sensibilities.
  19. The Man Who Wasn't There is one that falls just short of my Top 10 for their movies. Still really like that one a lot, Hudsucker Proxy too. I don't dislike Ladykillers or Intolerable Cruelty but would definitely be the bottom 2 of the Coen's for me. True Grit and Burn After Reading would be down there as well but I feel it might be time to give those another shot since I've only seen them once in theater when they came out. If I finished up the ranking of all their movies, it would be: 11. The Man Who Wasn't There 12. The Hudsucker Proxy 13. Hail, Caesar! 14. Burn After Reading 15. True Grit 16. Intolerable Cruelty 17. The Ladykillers I'm a fan of the Alec Guinness original Ladykillers, that might be what hurts the Coens remake for me.
  20. I didn't love Hail, Caesar but I still really enjoyed it, so I would disagree with Tank, but would definitely see how it would not appeal to a lot of people. I'd say it's more along their farce-type movies like Burn After Reading but with enough weirdness from something like Barton Fink (same era, same fake studio) to throw people off. Would definitely rank among their bottom half, which isn't really a diss with the Coens. My favorite Coens...made a Top 10 since the Top 7 or 8, I love almost equally 1. Barton Fink 2. Fargo 3. The Big Lebowski 4. Miller's Crossing 5. A Serious Man 6. Inside Llewyn Davis 7. No Country For Old Men 8. O Brother Where Art Thou 9. Raising Arizona 10. Blood Simple
