    “Boras believes players are best-suited staying in camp and working out in the semi-isolation of their squads, utilizing the healthcare options available therein, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

    Speaking further on the issue, Sherman quotes Boras as saying, “Players are evaluated daily and have immediate treatment access. This process over the month is proven effective versus the outside world as there are no reported cases [of coronavirus among major leaguers]. … The key to low probability of the virus is to be in isolated areas. But the key in treatment is early detection and treatment. And players are getting daily health care, they are getting daily diagnostics. They are in one of the best isolation situations when it comes to managing this outbreak.”

    I believe another big turning point was in 2004 with a chance to win the WS. The Angels won the West division that season with a record of 92-70.

    “On December 20, 2003, Guillén was signed by the Anaheim Angels. In 2004, he hit .294 with 27 home runs and 104 RBIs for the Angels, but he was suspended the last two weeks of the regular season and during the postseason for "inappropriate conduct" in publicly expressing his displeasure with Angels manager Mike Scioscia following Scioscia's removal of Guillén in favor of a pinch runner during a crucial game against the Oakland Athletics.[2]”

    Jose Guillen was a key piece to the offense posting a .294/.352/.849. slash line in 621 AB’s. He also hit 27 HRs with 104  RBIs. 

    Angels ended up getting swept by the Red Sox 3-0 in the Divisional playoffs 😞 I completely understand why Guillen was dismissed from the team but I believe there could of been a alternative disciplinary action without hurting the team.

    1. I’m not a fWAR fan ... but this is a tough pick. I’ll take the under by a hair.

    2. I’ll take Anthony Rendon with Trout batting in front of him.

    3. Ohtani is a easy pick

    4. Pujols will be a tough pick. I think he’ll be ready for 2020 ... Anthony Rendon might help re-spark his competitive drive.

    5. Robles is also a tough pick ... especially with Middleton back on the mound or maybe Ty Buttrey will figure things out this coming season.

    There is a real movement in baseball to steer away from starters and toward more long relievers/multi-inning relievers. The reason for this is simple: Relievers get batters out at a better clip than starters overall. Finding the right mix of multi-innings types, starters, and true one inning type relievers is an optimization mix we don't need to go into here but the reality of the numbers shows the more times a pitcher goes through a lineup the more likely they will get hit. It also shows that higher velocity, spin rates, consistent release points, etc., also improve performance as a whole.

    The Angels, as AO stated, have been drafting a lot of pitchers, just not at the top of the draft where traditionally taking a position player pays higher dividends. Arms are so unpredictable in terms of injuries that the whole selection process is a crap shoot of sorts.

    You saw Eppler trying to acquire a front-of-the-rotation type from free agency this year and it just so happens none of them wanted to come to Anaheim for a plethora of reasons that were out of our control. Billy is more than willing to acquire a top-tier guy it just hasn't been ripe the last couple of off-seasons and we even lost Skaggs who I believe was on the cusp of becoming a front-end guy.

    We have some potential front-end types in our system right now in Rodriguez and Kochanowicz, for example. It is the starters that Eppler will invest money in. Finding relievers is pretty easy for him so he doesn't invest there, particularly now that we have crops of throwers coming up in our system that he can pull on or trade from for other needs (Bundy for example).

    I think this is just a perception issue that is not really true.

     

     

    Makes sense ... although, most of the teams playoff pitchers were legit starters.
