There should not be a hitting philosophy. A hitting strategy for a given game/pitcher would be a much better approach. I would not want anybody in the box thinking about getting deeper in the count. See the ball, hit the ball. They should hire this young lady. sue enquist hitting philosophy mental - Search (bing.com)

An Observation about the Angels Coaching Staff
Rollinghard replied to BTH's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
Start by firing these four: Hitting Coach Jeremy Reed 3 3 Assistant Hitting Coach John Mallee 2 11 Hitting Instructor Paul Sorrento 6 6 1B/OF/BR Coach Damon Mashore And what the hell does a field coordinator do? -
Not all athletes are good baseball players. I am sure they have had his eyes checked but there are vision training programs (Slow the Game Down) and depth perception drills he could do that might help him improve. He should be doing mental/vision training and shagging 150 flyballs a day, every day. Once we trade him, it's possible some smarter Org. is going to get him the training he needs to improve and make the Angels look stupid.

We could sell on his mini rebound. "Adell is slashing .355/.500/1.032 with five home runs, six doubles, 12 runs, 10 RBI and a stolen base across 40 plate appearances since his demotion to Triple-A Salt Lake on May 3."

Fangraphs - Jo Adell talks hitting
Rollinghard replied to Angelsjunky's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
Let us say he figures out plate discipline and pitch recognition and becomes a MLB hitter. Those are things he can work on and improved on. He has above average power. But he still cant shag a flyball. He has been playing baseball his whole life and he cant catch anything but a routine flyball. I would hope they have checked his eyes and he has worked on depth perception drills. He needs to be shagging flyballs every day during BP but I don't think he gets it. Maybe he thinks he is too good to be out there shagging during BP. Or we buy him a first baseman's glove. Not saying 1st base is easy or we need one but I don't see him playing outfield in the ML any time soon. I also never thought Ward was going to make it. I was wrong. But Ward is different. He is humble and super hard working. He has changed his swing twice and appears he has found one that works. Adell comes off a little deserving like he has already arrived. I hope I am wrong and he is busting his ass and doing everything he can to better himself so he can get back to playing MLB. That being said, I think there is a better chance of him being a bust. Attitude matters and this is not the right one, Adell said his demotion "came out of nowhere" and he doesn't know what it will take to get called back up/what is left to show. -
I don't like Ohtani or Fletcher leading off so why not give Wade a shot. Marsh is the other alternative.

Jo Adell & Variations on Player Development
Rollinghard replied to Angelsjunky's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
"As for Adell specifically - he is still very young, and there is still a lot of development that can be had." A player develops the ability to shag a flyball around 12 to 14 years old. Either you can catch a fly ball or you can't. Yeah there are drills and tips on routes and body control that can help develop an outfielder to get better but he is 23 year old and looks completely lost. The average all state HS outfielder is probably a better outfielder. I hope its nerves or eyesight or some other fixable problem. My theory, Adell's inability to catch/judge a flyball must have been overlooked because he has the power to hit a baseball 450 feet during BP. (and occasionally in a game when the pitcher throw a non slider meatball) Everybody star struck with his power thought they could develop him into a MLB player. It hasn't happened yet. -
Jo Adell & Variations on Player Development
Rollinghard replied to Angelsjunky's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
Adell has "elite exit velo." "I don't think he sees the ball off the bat very well." Anaheim sky? Maybe the guy just sucks. You have to hit the ball to have elite EV. Every team/pitcher now knows to throw Adell sliders and he will strikeout. You have to see the ball off the bat to play the outfield in MLB. Quit making excuses for this guy. I would hope that they have checked his eyes. He needs to go back down and learn to hit sliders or at least recognize them. Learn how to see/catch a flyball or play 1st base. IDK, maybe the angels need an overhaul of their minor league coaching staff. Maybe its less to do about poor scouting and more to do about poor development. -
A former All-Star utility player is about to hit the open market. On Thursday, the Atlanta Braves officially released Brock Holt.Holt, 33, has a career .262 batting average.

Angels going with an internal competition for SS
Rollinghard replied to mmc's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
A 5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitter, Stefanic hit .345 in 21 games at Double-A Rocket City, then hit .334 in 104 games at Triple-A Salt Lake. Overall, he hit .336 with a .901 OPS. “Offensively, I thought I had a great year,” Stefanic said. “The goal was to be an All-Star in Double-A and I ended up being an All-Star in Triple-A, so I kind of overachieved in that sense.” -
Who will be our breakout player in 2022?

Free agent pitchers you want the team to avoid this offseason?
Rollinghard replied to mmc's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
Scherzer (will be 37 on Opening Day)Verlander (will be 39 on Opening Day)Kershaw ( will be 34 on Opening Day and wearing a back brace and worrisome elbow)Greinke (will be 38 on Opening Day) These guys are bulldogs. When was the last time the Angels had a 37 year old No. 1 SP? Been awhile. When was the last time Angels had Bulldog SP, period? We get the crafty nibblers. Besides Ohtani. And he is very good but I don't consider him great yet. Sample size is too small. -
I skim thru and didn't read all the post. Did anybody find it a little strange that Trout says "We have a lot of money, I trust Perry and the guys at the top, WE TALK EVERY DAY." Do players talk to management every day? How much weight is given to Mike's input about team direction or which players they should try to get? I like Trout but shut up and hit the ball. Trading Ohtani and Adell should be strongly considered.

Is trading Ohtani completely out of the question?
Rollinghard replied to UtahHalo's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
It is precisely because of his marketability that trading him should be strongly considered. IF done correctly, Angels could score big time. Where does keeping Ohtani get us? -
Correa or stay within.
