Absolutely. He’s thrown 47% fastballs at an average velocity of 91 mph. I’m sure that throwing 60% fastballs, at age 35, will do nothing but increase his average velocity and pitch location, and exit velocity for hitters.

I wouldn’t use a high pick for an OFer because they can easily be signed on the free agent market (i.e. Renfroe, Hunter). I’m really not worried about organizational outfield depth. A good corner IF prospect is worth more to me.

Going all in on Shohei keeps us on the treadmill we’ve been on the past decade. No prospects of any value to trade for areas of need, no money to fill holes with actual legit major leaguers. For the first time in a long time there’s actual promise in the farm system. I would not blow it up to keep one player happy. I want us to be a real contender every year. Can’t do this on the course we are currently on. And, I bet that Perry believes that as well.

I’m in the camp of trading Ohtani and getting max haul. I feel that we are on the verge of having a very productive farm system and we need to start thinking long term. Shohei keeps us in short term thinking because the mentality is win now. His predicted $50M salary will limit our ability to fill holes in our lineup. I would trade him for a prospect haul and use his $30M from this year to address a position of real need (which would probably be a pitcher). It’s April and I’m already tired of the Shohei circus every day among “pundits”.

No doubt it’s manipulated but I like the idea of being able to take someone off a roster to work on a specific item(s). The idea of some one on one coaching for a week could really benefit some players. I don’t know if the rules allow this, but I would be rotating guys through the list all season.

Do people actually turn down the TV volume to listen to the game on radio? Are that many people affected by the delay? This seems like a bunch of handwringing over nothing. I don’t know that if this happens, but if they can hire one more coach for minor league development instead of sending announcers on the road then I’m all for it.

The really tend to over value their products and it was clear that they immediately looked to recoup their costs of acquisition of Bally from the carriers. The stupidity was assuming they could effectively price a stand alone stream, especially since subscribers are more likely to not be fans of every team (i.e MLB, NBA, NHL teams) they carry. Seems like they would be in a better financial position if they would have been carried by Dish, Frontier, YouTube Live, Hulu Live, and FUBO.

I read yesterday that Diamond is behind one payment to Arizona. There is a grace period and they expect to make that. Everyone else is current with their payment. MLB is ready to take over if any more teams don’t receive payments. That part is interesting because I thought Bally/Diamond had contracts with individual teams and not MLB.

The NBA re-upped their agreement with Diamond sports. However, it was just a re-up of their existing agreement that has to be approved year by year. There are also 15 clauses in the contract which can cause termination. 2 of them are filing bankruptcy, and missing a payment. Sinclair is looking to retain a 5% state and sell the debt of $9 billion to a new ownership group. NBA and Diamond Sports renew agreement

They could do that, but then they have changed the terms of their contract with the providers, so I’m sure they would be dropped by the few remaining operators (at least in LA) that carry them.

I think the 2021 draft class is undervalued but that’s just me. Law mentions Silseth, but there is also Bush, Bachman, and Joyce. Unfortunately, Minasian couldn’t follow the “best available talent without regard to position” guidelines because Eppler left the farm system pretty barren in terms of pitching depth. I’d be interested to see how the Dodgers and Giants compare to the Angels in results to date for that draft.

Debt was the majority of the problem. At the time of sale there were many criticisms that Sinclair overpaid. However, once they purchased the assets, Sinclair/Diamond overvalued their service and immediately increased the rates they charged the carriers. Someone mentioned Frontier not carrying, Dish dropped them, and I don’t think any streamer picked them up. Spectrum and Direct are the only ones that still carry (for now). That’s a lot of revenue left behind.

Yes. Always need depth. And, if our pitching comes through and our minor leaguers are effective at the major league level you can always trade that extra pitcher at the deadline for a prospect(s) because pretty much all teams end up having some type of pitching need.
