I'm conflicted. I like the hats and jerseys. I bought two hats when I saw them a month ago. I was hoping to be one of a few that got em.... because that seems to happen with some of the old school Angels gear... it just goes away. Now everyone's grandpa will have one.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. It's a low risk chance to get some decent production. He has options.
Also I'd love if he reinvented himself as a bullpen guy a la Moore or the numerous other failed starters that became good relievers. Just a thought.
I agree.
He will end up starting 15 games and have a 5.69 era though

So many times the Angels have acquired a pitcher that shouldn't be bad. Mediocrity expected. Maybe a bit better. They turn into Allen Watson and Tyler Anderson. Every time. So it seems

Maybe Bauer said no to Angels.
No way.

I don't get into the weeds with this anymore, but I think so. Bobby Abreu, too.

Imagine Xmas dinner with the parents.. To your right is your Cy Young winning, WS Champion brother along with his bombshell supermodel wife and there you are bringing your Ohtani Bobblehead to dinner as your date with the entire family thinking this MF actually forgot Jackie Robinson existed.
Ben Verlander does ok with the ladies.

I hate this move but its brilliant. They pretty much own the Asian market now even if they fail to get to the series. Thats pretty much a checkmate to Arte.
Brilliant? I'd be brilliant if I had a ton of money, too.
$50 million signing bonus
$50 million posting fee.
Then, whatever the tax is.
For someone that's never pitched in MLB.

His last good season before 2023 was in 2019. I am not for paying $20M per year for one good season every three or four years.
I'm not either. Nor would I if I owned a team or was the gm.
The post I responded to was silly.

Another player risking his life for the Halo...

Throwing a lot of money at a player based upon one good year doesn't usually work out. There is a significant chance that his 2023 season was an outlier, rather than being indicative of him suddenly figuring it all out.
Bellinger has had more than one good year.

If Bellinger was in the 125-150 million range I would take a shot on him, but there's too much risk to have him resort to his 2020-2022 swing and approach I believe.
He is a very good defensive player in the outfield and 1B though.
The Angels have a cheap 1B capable of an .800 OPS.
Hard pass on Bellinger. He will get too much

Angels. will draw 25,000 to 30,000 a game,
The franchise will turn a profit.
Merchandise sales (minus Ohtani) will be down.
The Angels will end up fighting Oakland/ Las Vegas for fourth place in the AL West .
Halos win total for 2024 : 74
Trout will play 125 games.
Merchandise sales are shared. Ticket sales are shared with the visiting team, I believe. Stadium sponsorships, local TV, is where the Angels lose out
But they'll be fine. Arte will still make a ton if he sells.

So they take the Dodgers offer back to the Angels and asked them if they’d match it. So Arte is just supposed to trust them that they really had a $700 million offer? Then if the Angels match it, then what?
It doesn't make a difference. Right?

Of course Perry wanted to trade him .
To me, that's not even news.

In Artes defense, $700 mill is a shit ton to spend on a guy with a bad elbow who may never pitch again.
It's a shit ton to spend on anybody, period.
Then again, we spent $800 on Pujols, Hamilton, Upton, Harvey, Cowart, Wells, and Rendon.
Ohtani has more MVPs than all of them combined... more All Stars as an Angel than all of them combined....
Of its actually true that Shohei was willing to stay for the same money the Dodgers offered, than fuck Arte.
There's literally no argument.
And remember that we got saved by the Red Sox when they "stole" Crawford from us... because Arte balked at Beltre wanting $14 mill more over 7 years than we were willing to go.
(History lesson. We gave Wells 16 less than Beltre, and Beltre is in the Hall. And we gave up Napoli to get Wells.)
Harvey?
Really?

Especially considering the added tax they'll pay.
