  1. According to ESPN http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/43685/five-breakout-position-players-for-2014
  2. Ha! I'm an oldie and forgot his years with the Cubs. More understandable now.
  3. I see what you're saying, but the draft pick is more of a roll of the dice. And then the pick may not get to the bigs until 4 years or so and take longer to blossom.
  4. I wonder if he's turned a corner...unless he's on PEDs to have such a swing in seasons. I'm just not crazy about who's left on the table and would like a surer thing.
  5. I know I'm going to get roasted, but I still think our best bet is Jimenez or Santana and lose the pick. We're not the Marlins. We can afford to lose one pick as long as it's not a regular thing. I know our minor league system is crappy, but I'd rather have the surer arm in one of the two I mentioned than go after Capuano or whatever dregs are left.
  6. He hasn't been very healthy Chuck and his record isn't that great.
  7. I don't know. I'd rather it would be the Ms. I think the Yanks are a more dangerous team now. I don't have much faith in the Ms competing either way.
  8. Who would you recommend? I'd like to have at least a semblance of a sure thing. I don't know if Garza is that.
  9. I'm bummed, but all I can hope for now is that we get another pitcher or two and we'll compete well this year anyway. I'm not that crazy about Garza. Wouldn't Jimenez be better?I know we would have to give up a draft pick, but I think it would be worth it.
  10. Is there any credence to the rumors that we're one of three teams he's considering?
  11. First off, I'd like to give credit to the poster who mentioned the possibility of this yesterday. What I was thinking that Arte could swing Garza to sign for less, letting him know that Tanaka may be in the fold. This would be similar to the Pujols/Wilson acquisitions. Possible?
  12. I disagree. You take your chances based on your information. If he's good as advertised, then roll the dice.
  13. I was thinking about true, but demeaning statements.
  14. Good points. It is possible demeaning an area, even if it's something everyone knows (LA - smog , Seattle - rain), then the player, and perhaps especially a Japanese player, may not see that club as "honorable."
  15. I didn't see this on any of the newer threads. http://wapc.mlb.com/laa/play/?content_id=31296153&topic_id=7417714&c_id=ana
  16. When a GM tries to sway a free agent to his club, could (or should) he also demean another area or try to dissaude against going somewhere else? Would romancing a free agent be just about hyping your area or does anything go?
  17. I disagree, Adam. All they have to do is what they're capable of doing. Neither one has to carry the team, per se. Stay healthy. Don't try to do too much. The key is these guys are "superstars,"that is, they know what they have to do. They've been around the dugout many times. If they perform "well", I don't think anyone would have too much to say, except Angels.Win fans.
  18. But shouldn't they know by now if they're in or out? Or do you mean those teams who put in the 20 mil just to talk to him?
  19. Once Tanaka is signed with whomever, when do you think the other available pitchers will start to be signed? If we don't get him, as are the odds, this becomes very important. I'm eager to read what you guys think.
  20. Congrats Chuck and to all of you who made this possible! Kudos!
  21. I'm in NY. Been a fan since '79.
