  1. Hell no, unless they're eating all of his salary, even then I'm skeptical. Guy's lost a step or two, looks like he's running in syrup out there now, he's horrible defensively, and it's only going to get worse. If Arte's willing to break the bank and finally spend some money with Weaver/Wilson's contracts being done this year , and Hamilton's contract off the books next year, wait for free agency in the upcoming years or sign a big time Cuban player who's exempt from the international signing restrictions.
  2. I'm wondering if he changed is approach to sacrifice some power in order to make more contact and get on base. Seems like a completely different hitter this year.
  3. Agreed, especially about the walk rate
  4. Sherman was robbed of one hit by Barnes in center field, and lined out in another AB. Looks like he's starting to get comfortable. If Bandy can heat up, maybe he can replace Perez and add some much needed punch to the lineup alongside Soto.
  5. Shit if he could be the everyday DH, I would love that. But he's incredibly rough at first base and doesn't seem to really fit the mold of Eppler's run prevention motto. Just retire already, Pujols. Words can't describe how much better this franchise would be going forward with that extra $25 million in spending money and a rejuvenated Cron at DH.
  6. I was glad he was given a shot last year, but annoyed when he started getting sporadic playing time, only coming in as a defensive replacement for Freese. I want to see him given an everyday chance for a month or two and seeing how that goes. The guy's defense is spectacular, especially when you pair him with Andrelton on the left side of the infield, but if he could his .250 with a .330ish OBP, that would be enormous for this team. Who knows? Maybe Escobar becomes trade bait alongside Smith, Salas, Street, Soto, Santiago, etc. (that alliteration, though).
  7. Calhoun, Trout, Pujols, Nava, Cron, Soto, Giavotella, Marte, Ryan is the lineup tonight. What a time to be alive.
  8. He'll at least get a chance, if he could become a Jason Vargas type of pitcher, that would be a huuuuuuuge win for this team. Need to start finding some diamonds in the rough.
  9. Really waiting for Jahmai Jones' season to start, but Jared Foster is my most recent prospect crush. Raw, athletic, and now focusing on baseball. Could be a real steal and jewel in the barren farm system.
  10. Guerra and Bedrosian have always had the potential to be great, just had separate issues to deal with. If this is a sign of things to come, a bullpen core of Mahle, Bedrosian, Morin, Guerra, and Street (when healthy) is a pretty nice place to start. Smith and Salas are free agents at the end of the year, might make sense to package them with other pieces (Nava if he's producing somewhat, ditto with Soto. Escobar is another guy that could get a nice prospect or two back). Heck, if Street's healthy, you could even consider trading him. Sign Jansen or Chapman in the offseason.
  11. Very solid defensively as well. I'd love to see him given a shot soon, hit him low in the lineup, keep giving Ortega a chance even with Nava coming back. Or have Soto DH and call-up Bandy? They gotta get creative. Heck I might go: 1. Escobar 3B 2. Calhoun RF 3. Trout CF 4. Pujols 1B/DH (Scioscia) 5. Nava DH (could help him stay healthy) 6. Soto C 7. Simmons SS 8. Johnson 2B 9. Ortega LF
  12. Who cares about the saves? Nobody's saying he needs to be a closer.
  13. Well there are two things to keep in mind with Javy; he's not on the 40-man roster so they'd have to make a move, and he'd be out of options. But I would have no problem DFA'ing someone like Navarro or Achter in hopes of them passing through waivers and giving Guerra a shot. Plus, if Guerra sucks, then it doesn't really matter if he doesn't have options remaining, and even if he's good, then he'll have no worries about being sent down. I'd rather see what he's capable of as opposed to letting BedRock or Al shit the bed.
  14. Javy Guerra, if he's really healthy and back in form, he'll provide the biggest boost. Walks are up in Salt Lake, but he's got a major league track record of being awesome.
  15. I'm hoping Alcantara can be a difference maker in the pen this year if being a SP doesn't work out. Seeing that 100 mph heat would throw off a lot of guys once Smith and Street come in afterwards. Also good to see Ward's plate discipline is still going strong. That's what he'll need if he wants to make it in the Bigs (offensively).
  16. Could be a nice depth move in the minors, really hope they get Sam Freeman from Texas for the bullpen.
  17. Heck yeah, but I don't think they'll take on that much money. Makes a lot of sense, though. Wil Myers would be another guy I'd look into, I'm worried about first base moving forward, that could be a great piece to help move forward.
  18. Still needs to be seen what Escobar can do at third now that he's had a full season there, along with this winter and Spring Training, to work on it. I think Griffin will really help him become adequate there. Giavotella's vision problems haven't come back, maybe that helps stabilize his defense metrics a tad bit? If not, there's always Pennington to replace Giavotella late in games. I think Choi can become an option at first, he's gotten good marks on his glove there. Soto's an upgrade over Iannetta. Left field is probably "meh".
  19. I would love Baez, but it won't happen Theo has said this is the club they're rolling with. We'll see.
  20. Daaaaamn, they just got their solid leadoff hitter back. Have a stupid amount of talent in the outfield, and you have Javier Baez as a super utility player. Wouldn't be surprised if they traded Soler for another awesome starting pitcher now.
  21. Because there's a big difference between $2.9 million and north of $20 million.
