  1. Vernon Wells is a FA after next season... Short porch in RF... Yankees will have been below the luxury tax for some time so they won't get the big penalties. Hamilton to the Yankees!
  2. Every team has hot streaks and cold streaks. If we took out the A's worst stretch or the Rangers worst stretch they would be playing at a 100 win pace. It's not fair to just take out our worst stretch and say we're a 92 win team. This team isn't that great and doesn't have a bright future because it's so old, the farm is so bad and the team already has a high payroll and lots of money committed.
  3. Honestly, I am getting close to writing off Pujols and Hamilton as total losses like VW. By that I mean they will be total losses by the time this team makes the playoffs again. This team is a more than one or two pieces away from competing. We have nothing in the farm that will get us there or can trade for something that can get us there. I am for a full rebuild even with them on the roster. People have argued you can't rebuild with a $100 million payroll but I don't see why you can't. You spend $70 million on sunk costs and $30 million on the rest of the roster. Trade everyone you can for prospects and we could be competing in 2-3 years with Trout as the team centerpiece. We have a lot of talent that could rebuild the farm quickly. Vargas, Kendrick, Aybar, Frieri, Trumbo, Bourjos, De La Rosa, Conger/Ianetta, and Jepson could all get us guys who are contributing to a competitive team in 2015 or 16.
  4. Tell them if they hadn't stunk so bad the first two months then they wouldn't be selling. The players know what happened.
  5. Trade everyone you can not named Trout. How much better is this team going to be next year? Trade for as many solid young guys and high level prospects as you can so we can compete just before Trout hits FA.
  6. Tried Anderson valley Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout last night. Great consistency but I thought the flavor was a little light. Anyone else try this brew before?
  7. Generally they measure trajectory of the ball and velocity off the bat and go back through the data and say x% of the balls hit like that were turned into outs. No one knows the exact formulas they use but obviously it is better if you are making plays that very few fielders are making. Robbing HRs is a play that few fielders make. This does lead to some problems in that the fielders starting position isn't taken into account so teams that shift a lot can lead to weird anomalies. But being in the right position is part of being a good fielder. Also outfield shifts aren't as variable generally as infield shifts.
  8. You hearing if this will be available for distribution outside the store? I can't miss Monday at work and really want to try this. The pecan flavor should be interesting. BTW, just saw your post in the Beer Advocate forum. I just joined a few days ago.
  9. They are certainly factored in, every defensive chance is factored in. They aren't weighted any more heavily than dropping a can of corn, but it's why defensive metrics aren't as reliable on a year to year basis as offensive metrics but they are improving each year. A 3 year sample is really a more accurate reading for defensive metrics because the number of chances is pretty small. That being said those metrics tell a heck of a lot more than just looking at errors.
  10. Let's not forget that the agent has a horse in this race. How sure are you if you are Mike Trout's agent that he isn't hiring Boras in 3 years? 5% of 0 is 0.
  11. Opened my RuinTen last night. Quite good and I'm not even an IPA fan.
  12. Just went to Milwaukee on Sunday. A fun city and the friendliest people I've ever met. If it weren't for the winter I could live there. Hope you like cheese and brats.
  13. If you like barrel aged stouts it's impossible to not like Bourbon County. It's a great beer for its genre.
  14. RuinTen is available at Total Wines here in Tustin for $7. Just picked one up. Older Viscosity was available a few weeks ago. May still be. I picked up 3. Let me know if you make it to lost abbey and can grab any of the barrel aged Santa's little helper for me. I'd be willing to pay or I have an extra Deschutes XXV I would trade. Also Societe brewing is having their one year anniversary bash on Saturday. I'm going to Gaffigan in Anaheim that night so I can't make any of that stuff.
  15. Got back from Chicago. Couldn't make it to 3 Floyds but I did get to try a lot of their stuff but not the Zombie Dust. I tried a ton of beers I've never had before. Did pick up a few Deschutes Black Butte XXVs today on the way home. Can't wait to try one.
  16. I'll have no car out there so getting outside the city proper might be tough. I am flying but I'm planning on checking my bag on the way home. I'm going to Milwaukee too and plan on returning with a suitcase full of beer, cheese and sausage (also known as everything good). I won't make any promises but I'll see what I can do. Also I should add that I'm going to US Cellular, Wrigley and Miller Park on this trip. It's a nice little long weekend.
  17. I am going to Chicago this weekend. Any tips on bars/breweries to get beer. Obviously Goose Island but my friends just went there and said that since they got taken over they have been focusing on distributing all their beers nationally so there is no real reason to go to the brewery because you won't get anything special there. So any other recs?
  18. Where are the Hawthorne police when you need them?
  19. Whether or not she used the N word in that context five years is kind of irrelevant. Don't get me wrong, if all she did was use then N word 30 years ago I'm ready to forgive her and I'm a fairly PC guy. I believe people can change and she may be one of them. That being said the fact that she wanted to go back to a time or at least romanticizes a time when black people were subservient to whites is the bigger issue. It's not the words she uses to describe that vision that is the problem.
  20. A couple of my buddies and I are going early Sunday. You think they will be sold out by then?
  21. I think Mike Trout should work on his homerun swing. His OPS on balls he hits over the fence is much higher than on all other types of his PAs.
  22. Just as I predicted in the "How do you see the rest of this season going?" thread. Angels make a big run and get back into it before the deadline. Become buyers and then fall out of the race after that.
  23. I'm not a car guy. What does this mean as far as reliability and increasing efficiency?
