I used to be a supporter of universal healthcare but we have too many cultures in the US, even in just California, for it to make sense. You need a homogenous society that has the same goals. In that society, you can make socialist programs work. At what point do parents get their hands slapped for fat kids? If you don't feed them or don't send them to school there are repercussions.

At what point do we tell fat people to eat a salad and go for a walk? Everyone needs medical attention in their life because we aren't immortal but unless we all get on the same page with regards to lifestyle I don't see how universal healthcare can be equitable in the US. Broken ankle from going for a morning jog. Covered. Diabetes after a dozen warnings from doc to shape up. Not covered?
