  1. This is a great extension. He was looking for 38 - 45 million over four years including this year. I love the option.
  2. Mattheus is out of options - will be interesting to see if there is any interest in him.
  3. Pitchers make great trade bait so I would not like to see the Angels pass up on a good arm if available.
  4. 2 tickets for Sunday May 10, 2015 at 12:35 - V419 Row B right behind home plate for the first taker.
  5. Rodney seldom keeps a runner on and is generally easy to steal on. Zunino made a great throw and Cowgill got a bad jump. I like the play but hate the execution, especially as Rodney did not appear to be on tonight.
  6. Since they already have his replacement in hand why wait to tomorrow to make the announcement?
  7. Didn't he have a stint at a local Community College in Missouri?
  8. The unions would love it if rosters increased by one or two players to accommodate the sixth starter. Adding 1 to 2 million to each club's salaries would not be much of a problem with the TV money rolling in. I like the concept of forcing teams to go with younger cost controlled pitchers which would result in more hitting and runs scored possibly offset by the extra strength that a well rested pitcher would bring. An annual inning's limit would bring a whole new strategic element to baseball.
  9. Great discussion on MLB Network stating that pitcher's elbow injuries went from just over 3,000 days lost in 2011 to over 8,000 days lost in 2014, costing over $300 million of pitchers salaries for lost days. Talk of going to 6 man rotations to give pitchers(especially the younger ones) the extra day of rest. With the tremendous investment that teams put in SP, it is something to consider.
  10. I believe that getting rid of Hamilton was good for the Angels. I am disappointed that the article made no mention of Hamilton's refusal to report to Tempe for extended spring training.
  11. What language is in the CBA that prevents MLB teams from using incentives more liberally or at all? I am not talking about making the All Star team, or reaching 500 HR's or other goals. Everyone here would be a lot more comfortable with the Hamilton contract not working out if we had guaranteed 10 million per year and an incentive bonus of 10 million for reaching 400 (composed of BA x 1000 + Total HR's + Total RBI's) and another 10 million for reaching reaching 440. I know this example is a poor one but I hope you get the idea. Maybe the incentives could be another year on his contract also if these targets are reached. How many teams were seriously pursuing Hamilton? Were we bidding against ourselves?
  12. As I was driving to tonight's game the ESPN announcer read the MLPA contract language on how much authority the team has over where to rehab and train. It was very strong language in favor of the team. I never understood why the Angels allowed the whole Houston rehab thing. They should have made him rehab in Tempe at their facility and under their trainers, etc. I never thought that the stop in Tempe before beginning his minor league games was going to be any more than the Angels showcasing him so that other interested teams could scout him. I never saw him returning to the Angels. I hope that more information surfaces about Josh's supposed refusal to report to Tempe for extended Spring Training. If this deal goes through, what happens if Texas decides to DFA him? Are we still on the hook for the balance minus the 15 million that Texas was going to absorb? I think that there is a strong possibility that Josh screws up again either professionally, personally or both and is suspended or has his contract cancelled in the next three years. There may be some relief for the Angels yet.
  13. I agree with Reynolds regarding tonight's incident. Adam Eaton was pissed at being quick pitched and he mouthed of to Ventura and Ventura just gave it back. I like the Royals backing up their teammates - they have gotten hit 15 or 16 times this season.
  14. Or he is dealing with all at once to move forward.
  15. I read today that Josh Hamilton's wife was blindsided by the divorce filing - communications seem to be a skill that Josh needs to brush up on.
  16. Boy, that list is a big one for Josh. Good article.
  17. I hope that nikkachez meant the mysterious DL list to give Ianneta a break.
  18. Carlos Perez (the other part of the Conger trade) is hitting .410 on 16 for 39 with 2 HR's and10 RBI's at SLC. It hurts to see an Angel hit .108.
  19. Well Josh and his wife have at least three houses and he paid 12 million for the one in OC. With half of his income going to taxes and his agent he is not really that wealthy. Nine million is not that much of a net income with his expenses and it is going to get worse with his divorce.
  20. At least it beats reading about Hamilton.
  21. Haven't seen this commented on yet but MLB chief legal officer Dan Halem stated "we obviously have a different view than the player's association regarding the club's rights under these circumstances." At least someone that has seen the contract in question is saying something. I assume that he is an attorney and his title suggests that he knows the CBA and the JDA pretty well.
