The Angels farm system became terrible at the same time as Trout became generational at the same time as Josh Hamilton’s contract blew up.

They couldnt trade prospects to improve the big league team (they didn’t have enough) and they couldn’t trade major leaguers to improve the farm system (Tanking with Trout) and they were unwilling to give out more big FA deals.

    Simple

Maybe, you know, grow up. Not everything is political.

Scott Latimer reacted to Second Base in OC Register: Angels looking to add José Suarez to rotation, perhaps this year
Suarez was making some prospect noise before his initial promotion, and it's easy to see why. A 20 year old left hander that could reach mid-90's with his fastball had a 3.03 ERA and astounding 15 k/9 in AA.
    That's incredible.
Then the Angels try to outsmart  everyone by bringing in Brad Ausmus who was awful with his pitchers in Detroit to manage and Doug White, a butthole that had never coached before to be their pitching coach just because of his affiliation with Driveline.
The end result is a 21 year old top prospect having no idea where the plate is or how to get hitters out. Only that he has to do something very specific otherwise he'll never be successful.
The Angels did the smart thing by firing both of those clowns and brought in, probably the best pitching coach in baseball in Mickey Callaway. 2020 was a washout for almost everyone, and effectively robbed him at his chance at working with Callaway extensively to support any breakout.
Callaway can't keep it in his pants though and is fired, and now Suarez is working with Matt Wise, who may or may not be a good pitching coach, but at the very least, he isn't actively harming Suarez's career.
And here we sit with a 23 year old experiencing a breakout.
If you think about it, there's no reason why Suarez shouldn't develop into a decent major league starting pitcher.  It's the logical landing place of where he was as a prospect.
Hopefully that's the case.  Otherwise, it spats they have themselves a pretty good reliever.

They took a shot on a lottery ticket with Harvey and failed. If he came close to his numbers with the Reds would have been nice.
The unfortunate part is they banked on a couple of lottery tickets with their rotation this year and none of them are panning out.
Until Eppler and co. get serious about building a solid starting rotation this team isn't going to go far.

Some real headacratchers there, but I at least respect that he was willing to justify his rankings below and showed a fair bit of humility.

Found this article while looking at MLB trade rumors.
They have graduated some players prior to them exceeding the standard rookie guidelines, but finally a couple players in the top 100.
