  1. Are you pranking the Vegans again?
  2. So you're saying that team friendly contract isn't worth the paper it was printed on?
  3. Ball and strike calls are not the catchers decision but how the umpire perceives where the ball crossed the plate can be. A good catcher that can frame the borderline pitch without the umpire seeing the mit movement is about all the influence a catcher can make. But that little difference can be enough to get an extra strike call or two an inning that then puts pressure on the batter to jump at borderline pitches making the Oswing zone greater for the pitcher.
  4. 2007 Playoffs vs Red Sox Game 1 Napoli starting catcher, Angels lose 4-0 Game 2 Mathis starting catcher Angels tied 3-3 Naploi takes over as catcher Angels lose 6-3 bottom of 9th. Game 3 Napoli starting catcher Angels lose 9-1 For further information please see Rangers World Series 2011 involving 1 strike away. Thus ends the Napoli vs Mathis debate.
  5. Found nothing on Fangraphs with a quick search for Productive Outs. Stat people on Fangraphs are not to excited about quantifying multiple event occurances since the tracking data is so spread out in terms of cause and effect. One article posted was about teams that were more likely to run into an out on the basepaths and the Angels, not suprisingly ranked at 2nd in 2010. The White sox came in first and the Red Sox came in last, meaning fewest. White Sox - 7.9% Angels – 7.7% Rays – 7.6% Rangers – 7.6% Red Sox – 3.3% THe Red Sox had the fewest stolen base attempts. So if you play station to station baseball you will probably have the fewest runners thrown out on the basepaths but that does nothing to quantify if your specific team generates more runs by taking more chances as opposed to waiting for the 3 run home run. The same can be said for productive outs, they should be situationaly driven as opposed to an across the board + or - % of effectiveness.
  6. The name wasn't applied to them until the late 80's.
  7. As far as the OP's question goes, Lackey's career ended when he went to Boston but I think he will still be pitching for a few more years.
  8. Boston is rocking the Jays 13-0. Napoli with 2 home runs.
  9. Nobody asks for a quagmire but that is what it was always going to be once US troops step foot on their land. You asked for them to go in there full force, unearth the terrorists and guess what? It was the entirety of the government and countryside ruling leaders of townships. So you asked for what the US infantry could not provide you in a short and timely manner. The entirety of the government of Afghanistan was replaced with general elections and to walk away just means the nation falls back into radical control. The Afghanistan realigned armed services had to be trained how to handle their own internal Al Queda crisis. The hotspots had to be nuetralized and the target you wanted eliminated changed locations. Each location requires time to asses and execute a battle plan. What you really wanted is the US to kill a lot of people to balance the scales. Not to execute a long term plan, just kill, kill, kill and then walk away once you thought the body count on their side was reasonable to say mission accomplished. That is not a solution, it is just revenge.
  10. Yes but it is about when not what from. The 90's invented nothing new in musical genres. Even Boy Bands like New Kids on the Block were 80's .
  11. On the other hand I won't overlook it. You were part of the cause for deployment of ground troops in Afghanistan demanding some pound of flesh repayment. The President was just responding to the will of the people. Not even thinking for one moment that Russia (that has zero respect for the Geneva convention on warfare) rolled into Afghanistan with their armoured forces and were constantly bloodied, ended up crawling out of there with their tails tucked between their legs not 15 years earlier. So thanks for supporting the war cause until you realised you asked for this quagmire and now want to distance yourself from responsibility.
  12. So you were a cheerleader when you thought it was a good idea but now when you have the sobering facts that wars are not about parades and speeches but body bags you don't like it? I will overlook your inconsistencey.
  13. That would be great if it weren't an 80's alternative rock genre that spawned from metal and punk.
  14. Career year..., uh..., week.
  15. Our second highest OPS on the roster is this guy.
  16. This is just begging for a Barbaro update.
  17. Is that question directed to the 2,977 victims of 911 or their surviving families?
  18. If you want to go just by record, last season the Angels were 2-2 to start the year.
  19. A hit? Probably not but he would certainly have swung at it.
  20. He had no reason to swing at that first offering in the 9th. Or even in his previous at bat after chasing the first pitch in the dirt. He is just swinging at about anything hoping for a blind squirrel hit. You are not being honest, you are making excuses, again, for a player that is out of control at the plate.
