  1. Have you ever learned of a family secret that answers literally decades of questions? My mom moved to California from the midwest with my grandparents in the 60's. The rationale seemed very plausible - they moved here for the nice weather. Come to find out, that wasn't the main reason. My mom's cousin told me there was a huge falling out when my grandparents left the Catholic church and became Lutherans. They were basically disowned by the rest of the family. Life became so miserable, they packed up everything and moved out west. Not once has my mom let onto this. My dad has an aunt who spends most of her time on genealogy. She attends reunions, knows everybody, publishes photo books, yada, yada, yada. I've asked her literally ten or fifteen times for a copy of the family tree from her computer. There's always an excuse - it's too big to print, her printer doesn't work, she doesn't have Adobe Acrobat to make a PDF, the family tree isn't complete, she forgot, and on and on... I learned from my cousin that the real reason she won't give out a copy is because two of my dad's first cousins are actually husband and wife, and the family tree is rather...embarrassing. Any good stories?
  2. The interactions between Molina and Pujols did seem super gay. I wonder if Albert slept in Molina's game worn jersey that night?
  3. He might die from old age soon anyway
  4. Does your porch have direct sun or shade throughout the day?
  5. I don't think so - that article put Scioscia's stubbornness and "my way or the highway" on full display.
  6. Today's installment of corrupt Fullerton cops. They suspected this cop had a boner for kids, so they audited his body worn camera. This is the audit report https://www.fullertonsfuture.org/2019/what-happened-to-school-resource-officer-jose-paez/

  8. You're in law enforcement, correct? Isn't being homeless these days more or less a "right to misdemeanor" all they want without consequences?
  9. I just got a quote from Costco. $752 MORE per year than Mercury for the same coverage. No thanks LOL
  10. Without knowing the amount of your combined student loans, check this out. She gets a job, and after a year or so, you guys are able to invest $15,000 in mutual funds. Leave it alone for 30 years and assume 8% return, you'll have yourself $150,939. It's really that simple. Me personally, I would focus on getting some money invested instead of paying off the loan debt. You'll be far better off in the long term. 11. I didn't mean to make you feel depressed about your student loans. Sorry if I did. There's still plenty of time, and various ways, to come out ahead financially.
  12. The part so frequently overlooked with student loans is the opportunity cost. I was curious so I found a student loan calculator. The young couple I know with $280,000 in student loan debt - over 30 years at 6% interest, they're paying $1678/month. Take the same $1678/month and invest in mutual funds at a modest 8% return and they would have themselves $2.3 million after 30 years. The ROI for their music degrees will not come close to that amount.
  13. I'm 36 and went to CSUF. Tuition was probably $1200 a semester back then. I don't deny the fact that, by today's standards, I'm very fortunate to have paid that little. The real problem comes from our parents and grandparents who remain convinced college is the only way to success and knowledge. Without their prodding, would you have gone to college at all? I probably wouldn't have.
  14. That includes student loan debt. I know a young couple who graduated from a private university with music degrees. Both are 25. Combined, they have $280,000 of student loans. He's trying to become a securities broker, and she's working at Trader Joe's because nobody else will hire her.
  15. There was a recent survey where LA homeless were asked if they would abide by rules to NOT use alcohol or drugs while staying at the shelters. Something like 60% or 70% said they wouldn't respect the rules. These people can't be helped. Their attitude sucks.
