  1. And fine work they do there. This was sent to me by a friend who is a professor at Drake University.
  2. We have a pretty good idea of what we still have in the minors, because almost all of them have been called up at one time or another. Injuries have been a huge deal this season. At one point we had eight starters out, most for a significant period of time.
  3. I wouldn't count on it. This is a place where free agents want to play. The team also stockpiled draft picks, so players from the minors being dealt hasn't been that big of a deal.
  4. Another favorite is when they give you a link to recover your password, and they force you to reset it instead. You reset it, and the system says "Your password cannot be the same as any of your past five passwords." Of course, if you knew what it was, you wouldn't have followed the link in the first place.
  5. I love it when they wait until you have created and entered one to tell you that it doesn't meet some rule for passwords. Why not just say "Your password must be something that you wouldn't remember if the future of humanity depended on it."
  6. I still have my birth certificate. So there's that.
  7. To be fair, the Raiders' attendance ranking includes road games. Their home game average attendance is right at capacity.
  8. I spent about a week in that area in 2016 with my stepdaughter when she made a campus visit to Virginia Tech for entry into veterinary school. Very scenic area, liked it a lot. One thing getting consideration in our household is a possible move to Newfoundland, my mother's former home. I have written confirmation of Canadian citizenship from Immigration Canada, so getting in wouldn't be a major ordeal. Already found a home, about 2,400 square feet, former RCMP office, in a coastal town west of St. John's. After sale of my home here, I could pay cash for it if I wanted and have plenty left over. The Atlantic Ocean is literally across the street.
  9. I went to the NHL All Star Game when it was played here. I agree with your comments. The three-on-three setup is used in overtime games, so it doesn't feel like a gimmick (shootouts, anyone?). It also allows for more scoring with more open ice.
  10. Sam Kinison had a bit about if Jesus were married. It's along the same vein.
  11. So it has gone from a demand to an ask. Big difference. Plus MLB can choose one of the three, and not all. The only one that they have any shot of getting is #2. Given their lack of action for decades on the stadium situation and their poor attendance even when the team was winning, MLB isn't giving them preference in expansion. The owners have already voted unanimously to allow the team to leave - after Oakland again failed to act in a timely manner on Howard Terminal - so the local ownership boat has sailed as well.
  12. https://abc7news.com/oakland-to-present-athletics-ownership-with-lease-extension-document-confirms/14596305/#:~:text=OAKLAND%2C Calif.,and KGO in San Francisco. The city is proposing the five-year lease with the opt-out after three to safeguard itself in case there are construction delays in Las Vegas or the deal falls through. According to the offer sheet obtained by ESPN and KGO-TV, the city has dropped previous requirements that called for MLB to keep the A's name and colors in Oakland, as well as a demand that MLB guarantee the city a future expansion team.
  13. They rather blew the joke on this one. The door blowout occurred on an Alaska Airlines flight.
  14. This kid better have gotten a good grade oin this, because his responses were spot on.
  15. They're just telling you what they frosted the cake with.
  16. The latest is that the City of Oakland has approached the team with a five-year extension, with an opt out after the third year. The five year provision gives stability in case there are delays in the completion of the stadium on the Strip, or in the event that A's ownership manages to totally botch the entire relocation. Oakland has dropped their original demand that the owners leave the Athletics name and colors behind, and that MLB guarantee Oakland an expansion team (which wasn't going to happen). The Tropicana Hotel closes for the final time at noon Tuesday. After that, demolition can begin.
  17. I thought that it was a joke name when I first saw the header, but lo and behold, there was the man himself.
  18. "Can we just have fun?" In a word, no. If you want rah-rah, no negativity, then feel free to start your own forum and see if anybody stays on it. Reminds me of the official college football fan sites that kick anyone off who dares to say anything negative. You are free to talk about the team, as long as you are totally optimistic. Screw that. Part of being on a team message board means discussing various aspects of the team - not just the ones that we like. Unfounded optimism isn't true discussion, and it isn't what I come here for.
