  1. I went to the NHL All Star Game when it was played here. I agree with your comments. The three-on-three setup is used in overtime games, so it doesn't feel like a gimmick (shootouts, anyone?). It also allows for more scoring with more open ice.
  2. Sam Kinison had a bit about if Jesus were married. It's along the same vein.
  3. So it has gone from a demand to an ask. Big difference. Plus MLB can choose one of the three, and not all. The only one that they have any shot of getting is #2. Given their lack of action for decades on the stadium situation and their poor attendance even when the team was winning, MLB isn't giving them preference in expansion. The owners have already voted unanimously to allow the team to leave - after Oakland again failed to act in a timely manner on Howard Terminal - so the local ownership boat has sailed as well.
  4. https://abc7news.com/oakland-to-present-athletics-ownership-with-lease-extension-document-confirms/14596305/#:~:text=OAKLAND%2C Calif.,and KGO in San Francisco. The city is proposing the five-year lease with the opt-out after three to safeguard itself in case there are construction delays in Las Vegas or the deal falls through. According to the offer sheet obtained by ESPN and KGO-TV, the city has dropped previous requirements that called for MLB to keep the A's name and colors in Oakland, as well as a demand that MLB guarantee the city a future expansion team.
  5. They rather blew the joke on this one. The door blowout occurred on an Alaska Airlines flight.
  6. This kid better have gotten a good grade oin this, because his responses were spot on.
  7. They're just telling you what they frosted the cake with.
  8. The latest is that the City of Oakland has approached the team with a five-year extension, with an opt out after the third year. The five year provision gives stability in case there are delays in the completion of the stadium on the Strip, or in the event that A's ownership manages to totally botch the entire relocation. Oakland has dropped their original demand that the owners leave the Athletics name and colors behind, and that MLB guarantee Oakland an expansion team (which wasn't going to happen). The Tropicana Hotel closes for the final time at noon Tuesday. After that, demolition can begin.
  9. I thought that it was a joke name when I first saw the header, but lo and behold, there was the man himself.
  10. "Can we just have fun?" In a word, no. If you want rah-rah, no negativity, then feel free to start your own forum and see if anybody stays on it. Reminds me of the official college football fan sites that kick anyone off who dares to say anything negative. You are free to talk about the team, as long as you are totally optimistic. Screw that. Part of being on a team message board means discussing various aspects of the team - not just the ones that we like. Unfounded optimism isn't true discussion, and it isn't what I come here for.
  11. I beg to differ. In the first two games of the season, the Angels also showed what their pitchers can do. Be shelled early and often.
  12. One of the conditions for public funding for the new stadium was that Tarpy be part of the deal.
  13. Last that I checked, I don't own Disney. DeSantis retaliated against his state's largest employer for pushing back against his intolerance. The state made the judgement years ago to grant the special district to Disney to persuade them not to build elsewhere. The state has benefited many times over in terms of revenue, investment and population growth. I am old enough to remember Orlando before Disney, when it was essentially a place to stop for gas between Tampa and Miami.
  14. DeSantis uses government to retaliate against anyone with a contrary opinion. That much isn't even debatable.
  15. I can't possibly top such an informed and intellectual response as that.
  16. I don't know how you might draw that conclusion from what I said. The Tropicana closes for good at noon on April 2.
  17. The state extended that to Disney in order to get them to build there. DeSantis ended it because they dared to have an opinion contrary to his. It was grandstanding over a personal feud that has now dumped costs that Disney had been covering onto a community that is not fiscally prepared to cover them. But hey, at least Ron got to own the libs and woke Disney.
  18. They love criticizing others for what they are doing. DeSantis cares only about making his opinion the law of the land. It rings a little hollow when a graduate of Harvard and Yale moans about the "liberal elites".
  19. That would require me to either retain DirecTV or switch to Cox Cable, neither of which is happening. It also requires an extra cost sports package above and beyond the base subscription.
