If Eppler was saddled with terrible contracts so was Jerry. Again I don’t care but Eppler was here for Albert and Hamilton just as Jerry had those two. Albert was a little better Hamilton was still garbage. I get it we look at things differently. Over a 5 year span what the Mariners have spent compared to what the Angels have spent in terms of payroll isn’t that close. In the span that Eppler had been the GM of the Angels he accumulated 332 wins. What Seattle has done under Dipoto is 348 wins. Even with Dipoto basically having a fire sale in there as well. I don’t think either are great GMs but Dipotos record is better. And if you want to throw his record with the same owner and team then it’d be even different. And to the 5 years isn’t enough time to show progress crowd, sure seems like Dipoto was given 5 years and he has a better record than Eppler. And even had a couple winning seasons in there. But whatever none of this matters neither are the GMs of the Angels anymore.

You can choose to believe them or not. My belief is that Arte is the one signing the big contracts and the GM is doing the smaller ones. Arte was known to be the one calling Albert and making the pitch.

Agree you just don’t get it if you did you’d understand that 5 years is plenty. You don’t know what happened with Arte and Dipoto and what happened. But rumors are that Arte was the one mostly involved and that’s all we know. Everything else is speculation. We also don’t know what conversations Eppler had with Arte. How long has Dipoto been with Seattle? What’s Seattle’s record this year? What’s the Angels? I don’t care about Eppler or Dipoto neither are employed by the Angels for good reason. But your complete defense of anything Eppler or Angels players for that matter is like clockwork. Ready. Justin Upton had a 711 ops this year. Last year he had a 724 and before that an 808. Look

My hopes for the postseason. Every series is a sweep and the offseason gets here fast. I honestly don’t care who wins and won’t watch a single postseason game. Go Angels hire a President of baseball operations and hire a GM. It’s time you join the ranks of the other successful teams in the sport.

5 years is a lifetime. Do you expect the next GM hires to get 6-10 years to make the playoffs? 5 years is plenty to show progress. Eppler didn’t even show a winning record in 5 years. You know what Jerry did in less time? Went to the playoffs and had a 90 plus win season even with Arte hamstringing him with 350 million dollars in contracts to Albert and Hamilton. Excited to see who Arte hires and hope it works out. I’d give them the same 5 year contract and expect them to succeed in that time with a top 5 payroll. The other teams with those types of payrolls did. Eppler handpicked a manager that he groomed that was such an epic failure he was fired after 1 year.

I expect Trout to be more mortal than what he has been previously. He’s getting older and he has a lot of wear and tear. I expect him to be all star and mvp level but not super hero anymore.

Our lineup is good enough too 10 or arguably top 5. The Angels need pitching pitching and more pitching that is it. If they can find a way to jettison Pujols and Upton that would be great too to save payroll but that’s not happening. All this team needs is pitching and we are a contender simple enough.

Yes it really is

Arte may be a difficult owner to deal with. But let’s honestly look at the upside. Arte spends on a top 5 payroll. You will be living in the second largest media market. You have arguably the best if not too 3 player in all of baseball. Hate him or love him Adell was the number 2 ranked prospect in all of baseball. These are all reasons why if Arte offered anyone who’s not a GM currently a job and some who are currently a GM of a club would accept his offer to run the Angels.

How bout trading your first round pick to get rid of Cozart.

Money and there’s only 30 GM jobs available. If he offers an unemployed GM or someone else a higher position than they have now they’ll take it of course they will. It’s not that hard.

You mean how Eppler won games just not enough with guys like Trout Calhoun Walsh Ward Fletcher ... ya every guy wins with people previous regimes signed. It happens. Fact is Epplers finger print is all over the Angels roster the last 4 plus years and it has amounted to not good enough.

He did some nice things. But never had a winning record and Arte spent a lot of money. The cupboard isn’t as bare as when he got here but he needed to do more. 5 straight losing seasons with the best player in baseball is plain unacceptable. Time for someone new. Hopefully they hire a president of baseball and GM but I don’t think that’s happening.

So what you’d keep Eppler roll Trout leaves or retires? It’s not like Eppler will be the only guy Trout will like. Doesn’t make sense.

That’s awesome. Hopefully he has a good relationship with the next GM. Fact is Trout signed his contract and opted for a no trade clause. Eppler has been here 5 years and does not have a winning record in any of those years. Eppler can be Mike Trouts best friend, best man and father it still doesn’t change the fact that Arte is the one making the decisions for the Angels and Trout isn’t going anywhere. I like some of Epplers moves I thought this team would be better this year. They simply weren’t. I don’t know if Eppler should be re signed or not I’m perplexed with it. But Trout having a relationship or no relationship with Eppler should have no bearing on the next move. Trouts signed he can’t renegotiate it’s not like he’s going to ask for a trade because Arte hired a new general manager. It’s time for the Angels to start making the playoffs again.

Maybe theres a possibility. Eppler stays as GM but Dombroski comes in as President of baseball operations. I doubt that's how it works but it could.

There is as close to 0% as you can possibly get that this guy isn't going to sign the biggest deal he possibly could. He is not signing a year year deal or a 3 year deal. Why would he throw away over a hundred million dollars. No one is signing him as a free agent at 33 or 34 to a 30 milion dollar contract. Get all the money and all the years you can now. This is your payday kid you've earned it.
