  1. Jerry Dipoto doesn't have a magic wand that he can just wave and make everything better in one fell swoop. Developing and improving an organization takes time and effort. If we don't start to see improvements by the 2015 season then consider replacing him. Very few GM's have ever just walked into a job and have had a great team already on the field. GM's usually come in when the previous GM f**ked things up.
  2. "Well unless you are a fool, that boy is off the market!"
  3. Angelsjunky, on 11 Jul 2013 - 06:53 AM, said: That's a lot of legwork, Robert, for what I could have told you: trading Kendrick is very, very unlikely. Are you coming around now AJ?
  4. Hi storm, You are correct that there are concerns about the TMJ surgery. My point was that Bundy is a special type of talent that would be worth the risk. Kendrick for Bundy sounds about right but if we had to throw in Vargas it wouldn't bother me.
  5. LOL, AO is so mad he's blind posting in random threads!
  6. Green is expected to be average, defensively, at second base. He's still developing. Solid, solid trade for us!
  7. Well I thought that Kendrick might be an option to go to Oakland but Billy Beane went a different route which in my mind is probably better since all we had to give up was Callaspo. Solid acquisition in Grant Green.
  8. I never said we would but others here have said that. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised to see Randall Grichuk moved instead.
  9. He was good two years ago (although he outdid his peripherals a bit), then lost velocity and has been not good. However his velocity is up almost 1 mph this season and his peripherals, while still not great, are improving slightly. It is an inexpensive reclimation project for us Scott. I think the Angels see some improvements and possible mechanical changes that could be made to bring him back to being a better pitcher.
  10. Come on Stradling you know how the Angels operate: 1) Meet at Del Taco in Fresno County (neutral turf) 2) Dodgers GM brings Dodger Dogs 3) Angels GM brings low-priced beer from Angels stadium 4) Talk about their awesome regional sports network deals 5) Realize they have overspent on free agents and table talks until offseason
  11. It wouldn't be just Zach Lee in my opinion, they would have to give us more than that but Lee would be a must have in that trade.
  12. Maybe Jeter will throw in one of his famous gift baskets because he liked the way we got f**ked?
  13. There are actually other teams that want to win their Division, LCS, and World Series rings that need to make themselves better to win it all. That means they need to add our second tier players who are better at their positions than those teams third and fourth tier scrubs.
  14. I would rather have Carlos Martinez, but Wacha isn't bad either.
  15. Here is one writer's opinion of Bundy: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/baltimore-orioles-top-15-prospects-2012-13/ Sickels (Jan. 15, 2013): 1) Dylan Bundy, RHP, Grade A: Is he the product of genetic experimentation? Bundy has everything you want in a pitching prospect...excellent stuff, good command, superior makeup, great performance. As long as he remains healthy, he should be a legitimate ace. Dec. 5, 2011: http://baseballprospectnation.com/2011/12/05/scouting-report-dylan-bundy-rhp/ Baseball America (July 5, 2012, #1 rank): 1 Dylan Bundy rhp Orioles Was considered an advanced college arm in high school last year, but that managed to sell him short May 23, 2012: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/scouting-dylan-bundy/ When (and if, you are right about that) he is healthy he is, without a doubt, a frontline starter which is what the Angels need. Instead of the sly remarks storm why don't you go read a little about him? I'd sell off Kendrick, Vargas and more in a heartbeat if it brought Bundy over.
  16. BTW, reported on MLBTradeRumors moments ago: The Orioles have yet to make an offer on Norris, reports Danny Knobler of CBS Sports. They appear to have interest in the Angels' Jason Vargas, more of an August trade candidate after he recovers from a blood clot in his left armpit.
  17. First of all I don't think you appreciate how much value Kendrick does have right now. Secondly I admit that it would require more than just those two (read my post again). Third I further admit that the O's may not be desperate enough to win this season to part with a great pitching prospect who won't be able to help them until the middle of the 2014 season. Finally the O's may not be willing to part with their prize prospect for those said parts because it may not be enough value for them overall (meaning Kendrick, Vargas plus 2-4 more players/prospects). It is a long shot.
  18. Just thought I'd bump this since Kendrick seems to be a possible trade target. Although I doubt we have enough to get him, Dylan Bundy might actually be in play with the Orioles since he won't be back from TMJ surger until the middle of next season and the Orioles appear to be going all in now. That package would have to include Kendrick and Vargas at the minimum and would probably require another MLB player (maybe Iannetta to back up Wieters?) or 1-2 prospects to have a chance of happening (still low). Bundy would be a tremendous acquistion if he really is available. The Angels match up decently well with the O's.
  19. I discussed this a couple of weeks ago here: http://angelswinblog.blogspot.com/2013/07/trade-candidate-howie-kendrick.html My concern was the politics of trading with your cross-town rivals but I'm glad to hear that we are at least discussing the possibility with the Dodgers. The conversation should start and end with Zach Lee though.
  20. I love you AO, but you seem truly obsessed by the worry that we will sign Cano. I just don't see it happening in any way shape or form. The Angels really can't afford it, he is almost 30 years old (in October), and, frankly, I don't think he adds as much as people believe he does. I really believe Dipoto will find a way to trade for a good, young starting pitcher and we will either keep Kendrick or trade him for said pitcher and have a combo of Lindsey and Field fill in at second base.
  21. Wow you must really be irked to still be posting on the 12th page of this thread.... Then again what does that say about me?
  22. Yes it isn't that much different from what may have been obtained by DFA'ing Downs, but at least Dipoto got to pick a target this way and Rasmus may never amount to anything but I believe he was selected because the Angels front office believes they can work with and mold Cory into a serviceable middle reliever whether it is through a mechanical change, secondary pitch development, etc. I'm surprised you'd question my honesty by the way, I feel I've always been as forthright and honest on this board especially with you. I'll continue to support this GM until he really proves me wrong. I think some of the best years are yet to come under Dipoto's guidance. Feel free to save the thread and I'll eat crow if I'm wrong.
  23. Dave Cameron, the author of that article, really seems to take a negative slant with any Angels article. It is a little disappointing as I like a lot of his other work. He is a die hard Mariners fan and unfortunately it shows in articles such as that one.
  24. I kinda have to agree with Eric on this one IP, you seem a little bent about this. Downs didn't have much overall value considering there is only a month and a half left in the season and to get a live arm is perfectly acceptable. In regards to your comment about not being able to crack the big league bullpen, the Braves are pretty deep in relief help and there are such things as big league service time and arbitration clocks that may or may not have played a part in Rasmus' being brought up. I'm of the opinion that we have to let this stuff play out over time. Dipoto traded for Skaggs and Corbin and was widely panned for the trade but after a couple of years who looks like a genius? This trade could easily fall flat on its face but I think Dipoto saw something in this kid and perhaps the Angels are able to exploit a mechanical change or the like that makes Rasmus more effective. Hanson suddenly picked up velocity due to a minor change in his mechanics so can we give it a couple of years to see what develops?
