  1. man - and I thought Andrelton SIMMONS was good, what a play !
  2. for the White Sox- Cardinals way to play baseball -- for the Angels - a guy named Maddon.
  3. honestly - tonight - just great to see game being played at the Big A and fans in the stands. and it looks like a beautiful weather evening in Anaheim,
  4. I can be tough on scoring. sort of a push back to the liberal scoring I see these day. my take - a ball to the infield most times should be an out I can't believe some of the E-6/ E-4's I see that get recorded as hits in the score book. nd guys that cannot properly field bunts? that turns an out into a hit against the pitcher's stats? well, I look hard at the fielder, lack of range IMO does turn an otherwise out into an earned run vs the pitcher. yeah - I'm a dinosaur - but then I am watching at 1984 game tonight - LaRussa managing the White Sox ! Back to the Future. great pre-game moment with Pujols and LaRussa tonight - lot of history there.
  5. out at second - great throw- nice tag by Fletcher. even LaRussa doesn't want a second look.
  6. Bundy quality start is encouraging - who is this guy pitching for us now?
  7. gotta make the playoffs - even if as one of the new wild card extras. just gotta make a post-season appearance this year
  8. we have some one year contract guys - so our rotation is sort of glued together - a little scotch tape maybe some duct tape repair by mid-season. We DO have a legitimate closer for the first time probably since K-Rod - although a few have filled the bill with some success since K-Rod but nothing has come close to the now decade plus ago set-up / closer team of Scot Shields and Troy Percival - those guys used to shorten the games to six/ seven innings. Look at the AL West -- is it that tough - Houston the favorite. Oakland always plays tough - not sure what happened to Texas lately. Seattle - for some reason - gets good players and signing and finish out of the money. Angels need a break out year from one of our starters - Canning or Ohtani would be the ones to watch for that.
  9. well - I guess his hitting is coming along just fine this Spring-- I just see some issues with his rotation role -- perhaps it will all be worked out,
  10. Bundy has earned it - agree with the above - except for the Iceman semi-dig -- that's OK if Iceman feels that way, I agree with Billy Ball that we were expecting more with respect to the rotation this year -- but as Chuck points out - we now have a legitimate closer - something that's been missing for quite some time -- some might even go back to K-Rod but we've had a few since then that did OK. Including Frieri who was a two year wonder before he fizzled out. This year's rotation IMO -- reflects the Halos' front office realization of today's MLB economics and staring rotations,. Unless you're going to break the bank, put a huge imbalance on your payroll re paying for certain positions (i.e. the rotations or for us - CF - but he's the best player in the game) you're left getting the best one year contracts you can negotiate to eat some quality starting pitching innings , beef up your pen depth and have a closer. a Bauer like signing (with what should be an illegal option contract or at least unfair from averaging the annual total for luxury tax purposes) just wasn't in the cards.
  11. I'd say Ward and either Lagares or Jay. Lagares has had a good spring. Jay is a seasoned vet. Either one could be a 4-A player at SLC It may depend on which player has the best chance to hook on with another MLB club - It's March 15 - time to make a decision,. If Jay (or Lagares) but focusing on Jay -- if Jay has a shot to make another team's opening day roster, the Halos should let him know he's not making the opening day roster and give him (non-roster invitee?) a choice of being offered a 4-A type deal with SLC for2021 or catching on with some other team with what's left of ST. Teams do this as a courtesy to players seeking to maintain their MLB careers and capture more MLB playing active roster days playing time - helps with their pensions. Lagares has had the better Spring. Ward ? It's time he made the big club , can be a depth OF and also utility guy elsewhere, 3B - could even be third/ fourth string catcher if called upon. He stays as part of the 26. I'd keep an extra pen guy as the 26th guy instead of a position player. Halos going with a 6 man rotation again? Might need an extra starter to spell Otani if he can't make the season start rotation.
  12. just read the Impemba's bio again. I had forgotten he got fired at Detroit in 2018 for getting into a post game physical altercation with his pbp broadcast partner of some 17 years - a guy named Allen. Doesn't seem he's worked in baseball since. Perhaps back doing Big Ten games. I agree with earlier posts - for folks who weren't around and remember Daron Sutton during his first stint with the ANGELS - I think you're going to like him. What happened to Sutton's gig with ARIZONA? I thought that was a step up from Milwaukee - not to bag on Milwaukee - they have some of the most loyal MLB fans in either league -- but from a broadcasting standpoint it's not a major market like Los Angeles, like Phoenix.
  13. good news all around - Vasgersian as well as the return of Daron Sutton. I alway felt Sutton left us (back then for Milwaukee) in a strange career move. Sure he moved up to TV. PBP duties in Milwaukee at the time but he was here in the Los Angeles media market perhaps the number one or two media market in the nation -- Milwaukee is certainly not that. Impemba left at the same time - but I always understood that - Impemba was going home to MICHIGAN - Ernie Harwell was his idol and I think Impemba may have even gotten to spend some time with Harwell in the booth with Detroit -- also. Impemba - even while with the Halos -- went back home to do pbp for Michigan football and basketball and other Big Ten games. I really liked Victor Rojas - did not want to see him leave -- but as Chuck posts - this news now is very good news for the Halos and Halos fans. I just hope Vasgersian (and Daron Sutton) is here to stay now for the long term. Oh yeah, and for all the TERRY SMITH haters (of his pbp call). - I still think he's OK - not great. but an acquired taste, familiar voice after all these years with the Halos.
  14. he has had a good spring which is better than the alternative - having a rough/ bad spring. if he cn return to form - it's a great pick up - have to admit I'm impressed and optimistic about his performance so far.
  15. geez - once the Dodgers did it -- the rest of the front offices took note. If the Commissioner does not stop this -- teams will just flout the luxury tax rules and make a mockery of the salary limits for luxury tax purposes.
  16. as have been discussed in a prior thread here - the Bauer Dodgers contract allowing clubs to provide mythical third year option to get the annual average contract total cost lower to avoid the luxury tax thresh-hold should be addressed. allowing a false third year option at a ridiculously low price that serves only to lessen the average annual contract price for the two years - should not permitted. Furthermore, the Commissioner's right to re-allocate the contract cost by year on a more realistic assessment of the annual average cost to the team should be acknowledged.
  17. Bealtesrule -- it's rotisserie and auto draft -- again - this is fantasy baseball LIGHT - its not for the obsessive fan who checks the FLB team 24/7. it's NOT Head to Head; waivers are in order list and if you want to pick up a dropped player - you can claim the dropped player but for about three days if you are low not the waiver priority list (it changes with each selection and goes from 1 to 8 - someone higher on the waiver priority list could claim the same player and have a priority claim. Please respond to the e-mail I sent -- again - this league is going to be a lot more low key than the leagues you may have played in before - on the other hand - there is no valid objection in this league just because you are up all night and some other team owner(s) are not. please e-mail me -- tj.staffel@comcast.net to let me know you received the invite and the sign up details.
  18. HUBS - I am waiting for one team owner from last year to cbeck in - he has been given numerous opportunities and has not confirmed via e-mail with me yet -- send me an e-mail - tj.staffel@comcast.net please include your e-mail address in the e-mail you send to me. if I do not hear from this one other guy by Tuesday - I will send you HUBS - an invite - please play all the way to the end of the season. Beatlesrule - I sent you an invite and multiple e-mails - please respond.
  19. True Grich - join my misery loves company club -- I wrote something along the same lines about Terry Smith (i.e. not so bad, like his radio call etc.) and just received ZERO support/ backing for that from folks here - and from folks here who are long time knowledgeable Halos fans with strong reasons for their view -- so I figured they all couldn't be wrong and that the Halos powers that be agreed more with their view or at least heard it loud and clear. Oh well. Mota should stay with the Spanish language broadcast - he is beloved by all Halos fans and by those listening to the Spanish language feed - which is a very important and loyal fan base. Besides, Jose is Manny Mota's kid - Manny Mota was a very popular guy as a Dodgers player, coach and club public affairs rep. Manny Mota was a fan favorite.
