  1. Headline should read "Casey Stengals big toe knows forgot more baseball than you'll ever know.
  2. The guy who started this thread just has an unknown agenda against Nevin. Don't ask me why. The OP has no alternatives, just wanted to put a thread out there to sit back with his popcorn and wait for dopes to bash Nevin. So infantile. Nevin is a players coach and probably cares more about winning than the majority on this forum.
  3. No way Arte trades Ohtani or lets him walk. For a Billionaire owner, its more than winning baseball games. It overall Flex and Swag of having the marquee guys. Also the guys mentioning the peripheral stuff like marketing, advertising, Japanese fans and market etc. Arte is in the battle for LA. If he can't beat the Dodgers, at least he can have the higher profile guys. Arte would rather lose games with Trout and Ohtani, than rebuild with a bunch of no name better than ave players and lose his Big D energy. Baseball nerds just don't get it.
  4. We can build on this one. Fletch is back to his old form being a pesky hard out who delivers
  5. Trout isn't a cripple. He can still play in the field. Swinging the bat is probably more of an issue than standing around 98% of the time on the grass.
  6. Not winning anything with this reality. Neither would the Dodgers or Yankees.
  7. No and No. Maybe the Angels need to stay away from putting all their chips on 1 player. Sign Ohtani (only because he can pitch and hit) then STOP with the big contracts for 10 years.
  8. Was your problem with Maddon or Nevin? Who is the great Santini manager guru that has the answers to why no one can hit and Trout can't stay on the field?
  9. Are the Angels the first team in history to have north of $75 mil in season payroll sitting on the bench? No organization team can be expected to succeed with 30% + of the total payroll not contributing. How much pressure does this put on the guys making $750k per year? Angels should never risk signing an outrageous contract unless there is a <80% game availability clause for cancellation. Teams are paying stupid $ and it rarely works out for anyone.
  10. Exactly. When you're a rookie trying to make the club, you don't draw attention to your self with outlandish looking hair or anything else. Stop with the hot dogging look at me vibe. Shut up and hit.
  11. Starting a bit earlier than usual. Who's bringing the 7 layer dip?
  12. Ohtani has given no reason for anyone to think he wants to be traded. Remember how thrilled he was to be able to play with Trout? That kid is still in there somewhere.
  13. 2022 is a disaster on multiple levels. The only way it could get worse is if they trade Ohtani.
  14. Food for thought: Alcoholic, anti workout, anti conditioning, stay out all night partier Micky Mantle played in 81% of the Yankee games during his last 5 seasons. Missing only 30 games per season on ave.
  15. In 2022 it takes 471 American League pitchers to hold opponents to an ave. of 4 runs per game. In 1998 it took only 278 American league pitchers to hold opponents to an ave of 4 runs per game. Bottom line is that there are way more pitchers in MLB now that are not major league ready compared to the pre expansion era.
  16. In 1998 (pre expansion) the american league used 278 pitchers total In 2021 the American league used 471 pitchers total. The 190 extra pitchers needed was just in (1) one league.
  17. 30? LOL. Would 190 extra MLB pitchers dilute the talent pool to a great extent?
  18. Dive deeper. The game has changed. The increased number of teams combined with the increasing pitcher usage has depleted the available MLB level pitching. The have's and have nots. Alot of luck involved, not necessarily reflective of an organization. https://baseballwithr.wordpress.com/2019/01/28/historical-look-at-pitcher-usage/
  19. Baseball as a whole has a competitive equity problem. I think the expansion of teams has diluted the talent pools to the point that alot of teams are playing guys that should be in AAA. The teams fortunate (lucky) enough to have the best pitching are leading/winning divisions by an obscene amount of games.
  20. The Angels have Trout and Ohtani. That alone puts them in the Top half of teams. Alot of HOF players never got a ring. Some guys in the HOF due to "rings" don't deserve to be there too. Guys need to chill on the ring mandate for Trout. #44 never got a ring, either did Ted Williams,
