  1. I am big on keeping Ohtani around but his comments lately (if true) are disturbing. If he isn't going to sign an extension by the start of next year, then I say trade him. Also if he is going to bitch about "hard to concentrate on a losing team" and "wants to go to a winning team", then we can start pointing out his bad at bats that cost games as well.
  2. Pretty solid take. I especially like not getting into any more long term deals. The Rendon deal is killing the Angels, same as the other albatross contracts that have plagued the organization since after the 2001 season.
  3. Good post. Ice to see some optimism from the forum finally. you lost me at new manager tho. Who is your svengali guru who is going to come in as the 2023 Vince Lombardi of baseball?
  4. Some are hoping you stop posting until your takes improve.
  5. Sorry to burst your bubble but alot of really good guys are very well respected and never played on a World Champion team. Ted Williams, Stan Musial, Carl Yaztremski, Harmon Killebrew, Nolan Ryan, Tony Gwynn, Carlton Fisk etc. Your Derek Jeter analogy is the only one that is relevant, a ave. to good player that was elevated by a superior team. Several other HOF guys fall into that category as well. Trout and Ohtani are at maximum respect. Ohtani is being compared to Ruth already. So your case for them is null and void. Baseball ia 50% entertainment. They don't play for stats and rings in empty ball parks. Hollywood was built on star power, like the 80's Lakers. Ohtani and Trout are star power.
  6. I don't normally do other people's research but in your case I will (one time). https://www.axios.com/2022/07/20/mlb-baseball-attendance-falling-2022 https://www.statista.com/statistics/193421/regular-season-attendance-in-the-mlb-since-2006/ My "point" was spelled out in the first paragraph. The Angels are relatively successful in ticket sales despite all that has transpired. This is in response to the gloom and doom posters who would advise to flush everyone and everything as if the Angels are a 100% failing organization which they obviously are not, at least in terms of ytd ticket sales.
  7. This isn't any more disengenuous than several other posts than use hard numbers to compare (A vs B). Attendance in baseball games overall is down from 2003 so your statement is disengenuous on its merits as well. Also the no show rate is about 18%-20% as a league average so that is a push. The responses to my OP all missed the point (as usual).
  8. With 1,736,000 butts in the seats ytd, the Angels are trailing only the Yankees in AL attendance. Say what you want about Arte, but an owner needs revenue to get and stay competitive, and despite a ridiculously unlucky season, the Angels have managed to get more people to show up than division rivals the Astros and Seattle. Butts = beers as well and Angel fans have no problem spending $25- $50 per person once in the stadium. This is a big reason why Arte is hesitant to flush his stars and punish his loyal fan base with 3-4 years + of an uncertain rebuild. So Cal teams need star power or championships and the fans will come. Championships require some good fortune, but Stars can attract even during down years.
  9. How much rice can a man possibly eat? $400 mil would enable one to purchase alot of rice. San Francisco the rice a roni treat.
  10. IF the Angels can get 5 solid players and 6 future draft picks for Ohtani (like the 1989 Cowboys got for Hershell Walker), then I would say go ahead and make the trade. This would go along way toward a quick rebuild without banking excessive salary on one guy.
  11. Comments like this are why you are SecondBase and not SS.
  12. My bet is the Ohtani wants to sign with the Angels, but he doesn't want to lose honor for taking an insulting offer. Angles will need to pay at least Trout and Rendon $$ + so Ohtani can save face. Then he will sign. Unless Boras is Ohtani's agent, I think it can be worked out.
  13. As if he thinks hes going to get an extension in 10 years for more $. $$400 million would be difficult for even Mike Tyson to blow through. Evidently No one wants to play in a swamp like DC regardless of the cash. NY is a hell hole as well Guys like Ohtani and Trout will take a reasonable offer to play in Anaheim though.
  14. WHAT????? "Babe Ruth went on to a "team that dominated" and THAT is why his legend was born? They don't call Yankee Stadium "The house that the team that dominated built". Ruth was hitting more home runs than other teams in total. About ready to nominate this post for an end of year award, and not a good one.
  15. I think the talent is here, just need to get healthy. Need a #1 starter and a SS to get to the playoffs. Sandoval and Ohtani are good 2-3 pitchers. Canning, Detmers, Lorenzen are potential #4 and #5 starter. Teperia, Herget and Silseth are showing bullpen potential. Even Loup has been better. Rengifo and Fletcher are solid up the middle Rendon will be the 3rd baseman when he returns Ward was and All star 1st baseman last year. Just needs to get back to form Outfield with Trout, Walsh, Sierra (who is showing promise) and Adell. Stassi can be a good catcher and the bullpen has improved. With the exception of Trout and Rendon, this is a very young team and they are starting to show some grit and fight due to the efforts of the new skipper.
  16. Since the fight, the Marineers haven't beaten the Angels. LOL. They are still the Angels b*tch.
  17. Savage take. Geez. A rule is a rule. You think its a piece of cake out there? Dude pitched well. A couple see-ing eye ground balls was just flat out unlucky.
  18. The Red Sox choice was to win without Ruth. How did that work out for them?
  19. Angels show some grit. Battled and beat the Marineers in Seattle after a gut wrenching 9th. Skip turning boys into men.
  20. You don't send down guys who made the All Star team. Maybe sit them for a few games though.
  21. Not a bad call though. Just didn't execute the at bat. Put pressure on the defense, stay out of the double play, and score 2 on a double, with your hot hitter at the plate.
  22. Good job by Nevin not over managing Sandoval and sensing the right time to bring in Loup.
