  1. I think DiPoto should be held accountable as well.  He has really been terrible at reconstructing this bullpen.  He's passed it off as not being that big of an issue, but he could have went out and redirected a lot of money toward getting that issue fixed.  For me it's the worst nightmare a team can have, a bullpen with no stopping power.  Any progress made by an offense gets tossed away night after night because the pen can't hold a lead or keep a game close.  I still think the Blanton signing was a terrible blunder as well.  Those issues, for me, are squarely on DiPoto.

  2. Not a former Angel, but anyone think Tony Gwynn might potentially be interested or a candidate?

Tony has had three surgeries for salivary gland cancer.  He was quoted as saying one of the toughest things in his recovery was not being able to smile or be himself.  That would probably work here, there is nothing to smile about with the Angels right now.  However, he is way too heavy, and doesn't meet the requirements set down by mp170.6.

  4. Tell me then what there is to really like about a franchise that has:

    a)  A mediocre pitching staff,

    B)  Overpaid hitters who can only hit with no one in scoring position,

    c)  A coaching staff that seems lost increasingly,

    d)  A farm system without much talent,

    e)  Very little presence in foreign country scouting,

    f)   An owner seemingly with no clue on what it takes to build a balanced org.

You forgot, "a GM who fails to respect the importance of getting first rate bullpen help."

  5. I'm not convinced Arte Moreno understands how to build longterm success.

He reminds me of Steinbrenner in the 1980s.    No farm system of any note, little foreign presence, and a bunch of overpaid primadonnas surrounding one or two stars (Trout/Weaver vs. Mattingly)!

Convince me otherwise that Arte knows what he's doing!

Arte doesn't know what he is doing, so I can't convince you.

  6. All the jokes aside, if you are comparing us to them in that we expect the team to win - then yes, we have become them.  And I am not embarrassed to say so.  It means we have been successful - the fan base is enlarged (from when I was a kid) and we have certain expectations.  There is nothing wrong with this especially when you look at the amount of payroll $$$ and you realize that it is, in fact, we the fans who are paying this some way, some how.

Now do we walk around like our shit doesn't stink and that it is our God given right to be in the playoffs every year?  No, we don't do that.  But if this team can rattle off some seriously successful years in a row... I would not be surprised to see it happen.

It would happen, it's the nature of baseball fans.  Egos would rule, big egos.  That's why bullying is a big problem among our children.
