  1. He's losing on purpose to quell his feelings of disappointment by eating more food.  You heard it here first!

    <rolls eyes>

Stradling is right mp, the food jokes are not funny at all.  I appreciate the passion of your position, but attacking the man because he is overweight or eats too much in your opinion just degrades your posts.  I think Mike has a great deal of pride in his job, he's smart and experienced, and is trying to the best of his ability.  If the circumstances aren't right, or he can't find an answer to picking up player  performance that's another matter, then a change might well be beneficial.  But don't try to insult our intelligence with superficial crap.  That's something little kids sometimes do at school (name calling), it's also called bullying.

  2. My favorite Scioscia posts are those from the folks who "know" what Scioscia says in clubhouse and one-on-one meetings.

Yeah, those are real interesting Bruce.  You would think they know him better than a close relative.  I like how he ticks them off by never giving them useful material information to twist and use against the club.

  3. Scioscia as GM would be good for some laughs.

Don't know if it would be good for anything else.

Specifically why wouldn't he be a good GM?  He's has a wealth of experience, he can relate to players since he was one, he is respected by other organizations, he's articulate, he doesn't rattle under pressure (he remains calm and on an even keel), and he is familiar with the entire organization (with some degree of good interaction with Arte).  He also speaks his mind, knows when to keep his mouth shut, and can handle the press.

  4. The Rays benefited a lot from many years of being really bad, they built up a lot of really high draft choices. They also hit the jackpot on a GM, and he has been creative in the way he has retained those really high picks.  I would like to know how he went about putting together his scouting organization, and minor league system together.  I don't think they outspent the Angels in that department because they don't have the money to invest very heavily in that regard.  Part of the Angels having a poor farm system is that we have a good enough record at the end of each year to keep us from drafting really premier players on the first round.

..and so why are we comparing the two again?

Because we are trying to learn from the mistakes or failures of other organizations.  Pick any organization that you feel is successful (or awful failure), ask why they are successful (or a failure) then apply the approach to the Angels situation.  There is one problem with this approach, by the time you implement that approach what is effective may have evolved into something else.  DiPoto needs to be one step ahead of everyone else.

  5. Arte will probably do something like fire DiPoto, move Scioscia to the GM spot, and tell Scioscia to go hire a replacement manager.  That way he gets productive years out of Scioscia for his remaining contract, instead of eating the remainder.  If DiPoto does not bail himself out, he can be released later this year with little financial hit (it's the last year of his contract).

  7. How is a thread like this allowed from a moderator?

How are posts like yours allowed as a poster?  Eric makes some great points, and we are talking about Maddon's performance this year.  It's a baseball subject, and it's always good to learn from the good and bad of other baseball situations.

Both Maddon and Scioscia are extremely hands on, control types of managers.  They are very similar in many ways, but Joe takes it to a much deeper level.  At times his cute little games and tricks backfire, don't you think?

  8. This board will go ballistic when Arte fires DiPoto, puts Scioscia in the front office, and lets Scioscia pick his replacement. That will be a cheap fix due to the contract situations, and I would be fine with it, but some of you will be mortified. Being mortified is like dying, but you're still alive and you're brain goes haywire.

  9. That's refreshing.  We like players because they hit or pitch well.  We hate them when they don't.  I like them all because they are unpredictable from week to week, and year to year.  It's like reading a book, you never know what the next chapter holds.  By the time this season is over this could be a very long and drama filled story.

  10. Right now I wish there was no such thing as baseball. Can we fast forward to next season with a new Manager and good coaching staff.

How about some new fans too.  There will always be baseball, win or lose it goes on and on and on.  If you are never happy because your team never wins, then why even watch or follow it, or be involved?  You have to find something fun about it even if your team loses, or else it is not worth the misery.

  11. I wish they would find someone who's knowledgeable about Angels' baseball and doesn't travel with the players and coaches to do Angel Talk. Bob Rowe was the best they've had in the 35 years I've been a fan.

Why would they want to find and hire such a person?  Would you run a business by hiring an employee to second guess, and criticize everything you do?  You might, but you wouldn't turn him loose on the public and press corps.
