  3. "This same question is asked by the apologists over and over....who else would you want?

    There is nobody out there!

I have been answering with Ryne Sandberg for 3 years now.

These people ask the question, but they really DON'T want an answer...

They just want to keep asking the question. They want to keep Scioscia. They want to make the same excuses for the poor play, and they REALLY don't want to hear an answer.

I picture them running around with their ears covered, not really wanting to hear any answer to the question they are only pretending to ask.

    Scioscia sucks.

It is high time for a whole lot of so called Angel fans to get a clue and figure it out."

I have a clue, Ryne Sandberg is not the answer, if he was he would have a MLB job by now.  At least try to think of someone who is qualified, it might help your argument.

  4. Scioscia didn't build this  team and at the end of the day it's the players who have to perform. I'm sure this has been brought up a lot but he has a WS ring and 5 division championships in 10 years. I'll continue to take my chances with him.

In many instances I would jump on the "fire the manager bandwagon" if you can see it in the players that they don't have confidence in their leadership. I don't think that could be further from the truth with Scioscia. If you start to hear noise and controversy coming out of the clubhouse then you know there are issues but you never hear that from a scioscia managed team. Players believe in him and vice versa.

This team has to gel and hopefully they will start to do that soon. Once they do that they will be fine. If I can blame anyone for the slow start I would blame Dipoto. This team does not look like a playoff contender when you look at the pitching staff but somehow they will have to figure it out like we did in 2002.

I have confidence we will figure it out. this team is very capable of going on a long winning streak.

    Good post, very rational!

  5. That approach worked exceptionally well for Bobby Valentine.

Terry Collins as well.  I gotta laugh at some people who think they are going to scare an MLB player into performing.  Nothing like yelling and calling someone names to get a positive response, LOL.

  6. If I was the manager these guys would be afraid to even move right now. No way I would put up with this crap.

What exactly do you have in mind, you want to take them out back and shoot them one by one?  Not caring = ineffective results, negative reinforcement = ineffective results, physical violence = very ineffective results, acting like an as***ole = very ineffective results. ----- Acting professionally and positive encouragement = has a chance of working.

  7. Spending is one thing, spending with a plan is another.

Steinbrenner did the same thing in the 1980's.

What did it get him? 12 straight post-season less years

Exactly right, spending money doesn't mean you're acting smartly or effectively.

  8. I don't think your approach will work.  Players perform best in defined roles, and generally perform best knowing exactly what their job entails.  You don't see teams moving players around in the lineup like that, it generally leads to complete disaster.  We already have had to deal with injuries taking away pieces that had defined roles, and had a better chance at being effective.  As far as playing Pujols goes, Pujols has to be the best judge of that one, only he knows what he can tolerate pain wise without being completely ineffective.

  9. This team does has talent, however hard work beats talent every time if talent doesn't work hard. And that is what is going on. I'm not a delusional fan that doesn't see the problem. I see it, I saw it from the beginning. There was no reason to get Hamilton if you couldn't get a decent pitching staff to keep things together. That in itself was a very short-sighted move in my opinion. Getting Blanton and Hanson were moves that shouldn't of happened. They were mere panic moves that happened because there was no one out there that "they wanted". The opportunities were there.

I would add that trading away minor league pitchers last year for rentals put us in a position where they had to accept sub par pitchers, we literally depleted the farm of pitching to start this year.  DiPoto took a terrible gamble last year, and he compounded it this year.  Was the risk worth it?   Easy to say second guessing it, but it appears to have been the wrong choice.  This was the kind of situation Stoneman avoided, but the fans hated.

  10. It's frustrating, but I personally don't need a break. Any kind of Angels baseball is better than nothing.  Like many of you have already said, I just have to keep the winning and losing in perspective to other things going on in life.  Adjustments will be made, even major changes if necessary to attempt to get on track.  It's not my personal worry, I am not in control and never will be.  I still like these guys, they are trying but they may once again not have the ability.  As far as how much they make I could care less, that's a matter between Arte and the players.  I am still going to games, and I will still hope they win as long as I am able to do so.

  13. That's not the point I'm making, I'm saying the team just gave up the lead and you're going to go laugh it off in the dugout whether it is your fault or not? You are payed alot of money to help your team win.

I would never worry about that, when they stop laughing and start bickering with one another in public then we have a problem. I,d rather see a loose team, able to laugh and enjoying themselves any day. The reprimanding, disagreements, etc., should be private clubhouse material.
