  1. Exactly, it doesn’t make sense. But if— somehow— they are done and Perry chose to allocate his limited resources in the way he did, it’s gonna end up costing him his job.
  2. If that actually is the case, Perry’s gonna be unemployed in October.
  3. I don’t think it’s a smart idea, but it’s worth noting that the Angels did give up a second round pick to sign Syndergaard on a one-year deal. So it’s not out of the question, but the bigger issue is I don’t think Arte is a fan of giving opt-outs.
  4. I think this is them trying to be transparent. They were one of the few teams to have their trainer speak to the media, but it blew up in their face when Frostad mentioned Trout having the back condition. This allows them to be more open about the injury statuses of players while having more control about when they put it out and what is being said.
  5. I really don’t know if it happens, mainly because Arte is unpredictable. Maybe he wants a shorter deal, maybe he doesn’t, or maybe he doesn’t want them at all. In order for the Angels to get one, Snell/Monty are gonna have to want a deal that Arte’s comfortable with AND the Angels will have to have the best offer among other teams (perhaps by a decent margin).
  6. This is my theory: Wash probably wouldn’t throw him under the bus for the real reason. Obviously, they chose to release Mejía out of any other veteran catcher they could’ve released (Wallach or Hamilton), so there’s gotta be more to it.
  7. The logical part of my brain says it made no sense to give up a pick for a guy who may opt out in a year. But 3/$80M is so much lower than his original projections that I feel like the Angels could’ve worked something out that got them more than 1 year of Bellinger without long-term risk.
  8. I thought his defense was pretty good at 2B last season. DRS had him at -1, but OAA had him at +4.
  9. he is using "old-school manager" thinking... He said at leadoff, “I want somebody who has some speed" and "I don’t want Schanuel to get on the bag and then clog them. " And he said he wants Schanuel second "because he can move the baseball around the field and the second hole is situational.” https://www.mlb.com/angels/news/ron-washington-lays-out-potential-2024-angels-lineup That sounds pretty old-school manager-thinking to me.
  10. Yeah, I'm not broken up about signing Urshela, but they do need another infielder. And if they don't sign another infielder, the front office fumbled.
  11. One can fake it at SS and one can’t. Also, I’d rather have Urshela AND Stefanic than Stefanic and ???
  12. Sticking with guys who are even worse than below league average doesn’t move the depth chart forward.
  13. I’d be interested to know what spot Trout/Rendon prefer to hit in. I think making players comfortable is the most important part of lineup order. Like Neto said he prefers to hit 9th, and Wash is gonna bat him 9th.
  14. I didn’t forget. But maybe you forgot what the SS depth ends up looking like when Neto and Rengifo go down (hint: see Velazquez, Andrew). I don’t want to see Livan Soto or Ehire Adrianza on the team in June.
  15. Those guys might be cooked offensively. I don’t get why you’d spend $1.65M on Cimber and $1.75M on Cisnero, but not add Urshela or Rosario for $1.5M. Either they have something else coming, or the front office misallocated their resources.
  16. I feel more confident in Sano/Dozier/White as AAA backups at 1B than I do with Soto/Paris/Adrianza at SS.
  17. My big gripe is that Texas and Houston should be in the Central because that’d put 2 big spenders in the Central, which traditionally doesn’t have big spenders. Like the big spenders should be dispersed: West: LA x2, SF. Central: Texas, Houston, Chicago. East: New York x2, Boston, Philly .
  18. But what if Neto or Rengifo get hurt? Then who is the backup? Soto, Adrianza? Not great…
  19. Well, they’re trying to create a first class experience there. Something I can’t say the Angels are doing. When Scott Harris took over as the Detroit Tigers' president of baseball operations exactly 17 months ago, he went on a fact-finding mission. He met with every player, wanting to find out how the franchise could do a better job of supporting them, and he ended up doing far more listening than talking. The feedback from players convinced him that changes were needed. So, Harris took a proposal to Christopher Ilitch, who made it happen. Ilitch, the chairman and CEO of the Tigers, made a presentation to the team on Tuesday morning in the clubhouse before the second day of full-squad workouts in spring training, unveiling some of the improvements that have been made throughout the organization, including changes at Comerica Park. "It's pretty cool what he did," catcher Jake Rogers said. "He did a lot more than we expected. He really listened, which is pretty cool from an owner. To have meetings with Scott Harris and listen to him and be like, 'Hey, look, this is what the guys are saying.' And he didn't have to do any of it. It's changes to literally everything." The changes range from a new plane to transforming the old weight room into a performance center with cardio machines, weight machines and much more. There's a new meeting room, too. A new kitchen and clubhouse renovations were unveiled to the players in last year's spring training and completed before the beginning of last season. This year, there are even new showers. https://t.co/DHm4ay79vc
  20. Kind of? But with no DH, he’s gonna get more ABs somewhere than a traditional backup. And he’s also the backup at 2B or 3B if Drury/Rendon go down. So I think they need a 6th infielder, preferably someone who could play SS.
  21. This. Or, as I’ve theorized in the past, how about developing a bunch of relievers that can pitch 3 innings or ~1 time through the order. Build them up to 40-50 pitches and 2-3 days rest. Looking at the current 40-man, guys who could easily fit in that role: Bachman, Caceres, Daniel, Herget, Mederos, Suarez, Wantz.
  22. I’d be more OK with that if they had more thump in the middle of the lineup. I think they could use a MOTO bat, and JDM would fit as a DH. I think his bat would more than make up for the lack of flexibility at DH.
