  1. 0.8 bWAR and 0.4 fWAR last year, so I’m not sure where you’re getting “below replacement value” from.
  2. They’d be improvements over the current options, but yeah, it’s up to Arte whether he wants to spend.
  3. Adrianza is awful. Being better than Adrianza is not the complement you think it is. And, btw, the Angels seem to disagree with your statement considering that Soto got optioned and Adrianza’s still in camp.
  4. Right now, they’re the no. 3 SS and no. 6 INF, but we all know that the Angels are gonna have injuries. They’ll have no problem getting ABs throughout the season. Maybe it’s hair-splitting, but they made that type of move last year. They had 6 infielders last year and then still wound up depleted. So to go with 5 infielders seems like you’re setting yourself up for an even bigger disaster.
  5. The type of guys I’m talking about are: Garrett Cooper: milb deal Amed Rosario: 1/$1.5M Gio Urshela: 1/$1.5M They couldn’t beat that? And I’m still not sold on their DH situation. Brandon Belt’s still out there and can’t be getting much at this point.
  6. That's reasonable, but the position player depth is pretty empty now. They are two injuries away from an NRI playing every day. I think it's easier to find diamonds in the rough on the mound than it is at the plate.
  7. But the question isn’t “why didn’t you spend more money to improve the team?” The question is “given the resources you had available, how did you determine that the best allocation was to spend 95% of it on the bullpen?” He should be able to give a sufficient answer to that question, since he’s the one who decided to spend the money. Assuming, of course, that it wasn’t Arte saying “let’s give $30M to Stephenson, Moore, García, Cisnero, Cimber, Kolarek, and Plesac.”
  8. It’s not all Wise’s fault. And their moves tell you they don’t think that either. Tamin, Wise, Rowen, and Hinchcliffe are gone + they reassigned Hezel. That philosophy that Anderson and others hated probably came from Tamin.
  9. Would love to see these questions asked the next time they speak, @Jeff Fletcher
  10. the lack of depth is particularly glaring. like they're really gonna go with one of Adrianza/Sano/Soto? And then when injuries hurt, that means those guys get even more PT.
  11. Getting banned from baseball would probably make him more famous (infamous?) than he is now.
  12. Let’s say 4 DH games for the OF a week (1 DH game goes to Trout, 1 goes to Rendon, and 1 for either an off day or occasional Drury DH day) Add that to 7 games a week in RF and 1 game in CF when Trout DHs, so that’s 12 games for 3 guys. That’s an average of 4 games a week per player. But I can’t imagine Moniak starting vs. LHP. They can also get guys ABs by pinch hitting (Moniak vs. a righty reliever, Hicks vs. a lefty reliever) Yep
  13. I'm thinking someone who gets squeezed off another team's roster. Whether via trade or if they are an NRI that's not gonna make the team. For example, guys like Kolten Wong, Elvis Andrus, or Kevin Newman.
  14. "Werner [Blakely] will still play a little bit in the infield but we're hoping transitioning to the outfield will free him up and let his athleticism come out on both sides of the ball."
  15. I still refuse to believe the Angels enter the season with one of Adrianza/Soto as the backup infielder. Maybe Sano, but I still wouldn't rule out an outside addition. Adrianza is slow/bad offensively and they DFA'd Soto last month.
  16. Matt Wise-- the guy who was promoted to the job because the pitching coach got fired for being a creep-- sounded good and promising? I disagree.
  17. If he was smart, maybe he’d realize he should stop suggesting which players to sign and leave it up to his baseball people.
  18. more understandable for him, since last year was his first year in pro ball. Adams and Paris were drafted 6 and 5 years ago, respectively.
  19. I think he just goes through these cycles where he spends big then gets gun shy. Signed Matthews Jr in 2007 & Hunter in 2008. Nothing from 2009-2010. Then Wells in 2011, Pujols/Wilson in 2012, Hamilton in 2013. Nothing from 2014-2017. Upton in 2018, Trout in 2019, Rendon in 2020. Nothing from 2021-now.
