  1. No it wouldn't. Angels can spend roughly $67M before hitting the tax. Remember it's AAV that counts against tax, not actual payroll.
  2. If Angels sign Rendon then either Fletcher will be moved for a pitcher or Simmons for salary relief I think. Rendon is my last option IMO
  3. Well then they better show it. So far, it's all talk from the Angels and that's it
  4. That's what worries me. That he'll settle for a guy like Bumgarner and Rendon and Bumgarner's arm will fall off
  5. Yankees fans always chat their players' names during the beginning of the game....
  6. Angels could theoretically afford BOTH without paying tax. Upton and Pujols will come off the books and will be replaced with cheaper prospects. Arte could absolutely afford both.
  7. -----"9:40pm: The Angels and Boras “have had multiple “ownership-level” meetings” regarding Cole"-----From MLBTR on Article from "" Jeff Fletcher https://www.ocregister.com/2019/12/09/angels-still-hoping-to-land-gerrit-cole-after-stephen-strasburg-goes-off-the-board/
  8. GM Billy Eppler has 2 meeting with agents scheduled for 8:30pm and 9pm today. Wonder if one of them was Boras to see what Yankees offered.
  9. It's this reason alone that I believe the Angels will sign him if they whiff on Bumgarner and it terrifies me
  10. No, you sign Cole and then sign another strong arm or trade for one. Signing Cole for $36M/yr doesn't handcuff the Angels if Arte is willing to spend.
  11. Then fine... Ohtani will have 2.70 ERA, 200K's and will bat .280 with 25hrs and 85RBIs
  12. Angels payroll is *roughly* $150,400,000M AAV is $141,005,666 If the Angels sign Gerrit Cole for 9yr/$324M then your payroll looks like this: Payroll (if nothing is backloaded): $186,400,000M AAV: $177,005,666M Arte has stated in the past he'd go over the tax for the right player(s). The Angels technically would have another $30,994,334M before they hit the $208M tax. Don't tell me Cole is to expensive. Ultimately the ball is literally in Arte's and Eppler's hands.

  14. Think of this @floplag @Second Base @totdprods @tdawg87 @Chuckster70 Angels payroll is *roughly* $150,400,000M AAV is $141,005,666 If the Angels sign Gerrit Cole for 9yr/$324M then your payroll looks like this: Payroll (if nothing is backloaded): $186,400,000M AAV: $177,005,666M Arte has stated in the past he'd go over the tax for the right player(s). 15. Well so far, once again, the Angels have an 0-2 count. Just like last year with Eovaldi and Corbin. One more strike and we're out.... Literally
  16. I'd lean towards Cole and then one of Ryu/Bumgarner/Teheran. We need two solid pieces. I'd lean towards Cole and then trading top prospects (not Adell) for a number 2 starter and signing Maldonado I'd MAYBE lean towards Cole and then trading for Contreras I won't lean towards Cole and Maldonado and that's it. That gets us nowhere.
  17. Let me ask everyone this: if winning a World Series in within the next 4 years means paying Cole $324M and signing someone else would you do it? I sure as hell would. I’d do it for Trout. And I think Arte would too.
  18. Agreed. But “whatever it takes” shouldn’t stop once Cole is signed then.
  19. Understood. My point is Arte has to keep spending after that. Push payroll to $200M-$205M and get one of Ryu/Bumgarner for $20M/yr. either than or Teheran for less. second option is to pull the trigger on trading Marsh and package for a #2 starter to slot behind Cole. Third option (least likely) is the trade Simmons and package to clear room to sign Cole/another high end starter.
  20. $36M AAV is pathetic for the Angels and honestly don’t know what to think. I’m only down for this deal if Arte plans to go balls out and still keep spending after he gets Cole OR they make a big trade to clear room
