  1. Had a bad start to 2018 with St. Louis and was released and had a big turnaround when the Nats signed him to finish 2018. St. Louis stats: 7.92 ERA, 32 games, 22 ER, 1 HR, 22 BB, 22 K Washington(signed deal on 8/7): 0.84 ERA, 24 games, 2 ER, 1 HR, 10 BB, 25 K Even when he struggled he didn’t surrender the home run, something the Angels bullpen struggled with giving up 82 of them. Seems like a cheap bullpen candidate that the Angels should keep a tab on.
  2. What about trading for Alex Avila? 347 career OBP, 995 career fielding percentage and 29 percent career caught stealing percentage. Makes 4.25 mil in final year with Arizona who appears to be rebuilding. Seems cheaper to trade for than the other names out there. Why overpay for Grandal who has a lower fielding %, lower obp and a lower CS%? The Angels should look into drafting a catcher early in the upcoming draft, because they have no catchers in the top 30 of their farm
  3. I like the move. Cheap deal and he brings decent power and an above average obp to the table
  4. I would like to keep Angels baseball here in Orange County, but what are the realistic locations? The Great Park space(old marine base) would be a good spot but last I checked a deal fell through. There seems to be a lot of other projects going on there. The current digs with development of surrounding land and a refurnished(or new) Big A seems most likely if Angels stay in OC. They put in new lights there so what are the odds they did that only to leave? Ohtani is really marketable around here and with Disneyland near by it could be beneficial for marketing and tourism.
  5. That’s the sad reality of Venezuela now. It is common for starving Venezuelans to surround conveys of trucks and loot the food they carry or steal farm animals. People there lack money, food and water. Their roads are becoming increasingly lawless and murder rates gone up. A sad reality for all. https://www.google.com/amp/s/mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN1FT1G9
  6. Trying to figure out what Eppler knows and what we don’t know.
  7. Yeah I reread your post and I realized you were aware Moore was off the market. As for Shoemaker I recall reading an article that his injury was misdiagnosed and the doctors found what the real issue is and corrected it, so maybe Shoemaker on a cheaper AAV with 4 years
  8. I looked up Matt Moore and the Tigers already signed him to a one year deal for 2.5 mil a couple of days ago. Oh my bad I reread your post and you were aware Moore was off the table
  9. Are there any dumpster dives in the free agent market that you wouldn’t mind trying out?
  10. Yeah that’s true, take it for what it’s worth but here is an article on how Harvey’s delivery in Cincinnati looked different from his delivery in New York and how he was able to touch 97mph a few times and that is average fastball velocity went to 94 vs 92. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.beyondtheboxscore.com/platform/amp/2018/6/22/17491990/cincinnati-reds-matt-harvey-mechanical-adjustments-fastball-velocity-slider-movement
  11. If players are getting overpaid, for example the Corbin deal, the Angels may have a hard time matching offers for guys if they aren’t willing to open up the checkbook. Who would you guys dumpster dive for and take a chance on? I would kick the tires on Matt Harvey on a cheap deal. See if he can contribute somewhat to the rotation. I’m aware he had Tommy John before and of his current downward trend, but he’s not even 30 yet(turns 30 before season), so he should be cheap and if the rotation doesn’t work out we can try him out in the bullpen.
  12. I read that Eppler wanted durable pitching. Patrick Corbin already had a Tommy John surgery in his career, and after witnessing the pitching injuries this season we didn’t need to sign a guy that had that issue in the past for the stupid money the Nats gave him. Too bad Ohtani had the same injury but at least he is younger and can still contribute offensively at the plate. With luck hopefully Ohtani can recover faster.
  13. Isn’t the best way to get the best prospects through a rebuild? So that way when the prospects are ready you only have to sign a couple free agents. Instead if you have limited talent from your farm and want to be a long term winner you have to hand out stupid long term expensive deals to guys that may have already played their best years and the team’s hands get tied up with so much guaranteed money tied up in bad places. My friends mentioned Pujols and Hamilton, the Wells trade and some guy named Gary Matthews Jr. If we were to through a full rebuild if we had a bad 2019, shouldn’t we be done rebuilding around the time Houston and Oakland contention is over?
  14. I just started following baseball, especially the Angels last season and I had a lot to learn during the offseason. I had to ask some of my more experienced Angels fan friends about the team the last few years and they told me to an extent yes, the club was rebuilding but there was never a major fire sale like what is happening in Seattle right now. My friends think the best way to build a long time winner is have a full rebuild instead of the mediocrity of the Angels hovering around 500. I read old articles on the team and Mr. Moreno said there would be no tanks. However, some of the current roster is headed to free agency soon and my question was if we can’t field a contender this year should we hit reset
  15. Trout does seem like a really nice person. He doesn’t seem like the guy that would voice his displeasure through the media. He did tell the papers that he wants to win at least. Winning is important to him, and if a better opportunity comes up elsewhere for him to win we should be worried.
  16. The biggest move the Angels could possibly make this winter is extending Trout for life. What if Trout is only willing to consider an extension if the Angels make the playoffs this year? After this offseason if the team is one or two good players away from contending, would trading Adell or Canning in July or sooner be the answer? We have to trade good value to get good value and in the playoffs we have to compete against Houston, Boston, New York. Without Adell or Canning in the farm it becomes weaker but there are still some ok to solid prospects. So in this scenario if 2019 goes wrong jumpstarting a rebuild should be considered.
  17. Thanks for the info man. That’s interesting. Going to have to learn team history if I want to be a lifelong fan
  18. I’m from SoCal and I see people wearing Trout stuff, so I knew he was popular. One of my friends took me to my first angel game(of my life) this season when he found out I was an Ohtani fan, except it was around the time he injured his arm. At least he got a double in the game and Trout homered that night. My friend filled me in trout and his nickname
  19. What do you mean? Before I followed baseball avidly, I heard of Mike Trout before and I knew he was good. I came for Ohtani but I stayed for Trout.
  20. Just read that the Padres are asking the Mariners about Segura and Leake for Myers. If Seattle does this, it’s what, 3 trades winter? https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.mlb.com/300985768-mariners-padres-discussing-deal-segura-myers.amp.html
  21. Hopefully Trout signing a lifetime extension is the Christmas present we get this year
  22. Trout is a beast. Even causal fans knew that
  23. Not really. I was raised to watch a lot of basketball and started getting into baseball recently because the concept of Ohtani a two way player seemed interesting.
