  1. Great piece, Glen, but these aren't their career stats: Forget the hype and just look at his raw stats over those nine years: .293 BA, .347 OBP, .744 OPS. Compare that to the career stats for the sports media’s favorite rat-boy, Dustin Pedroia: .278, .337, .712. Those are their 2014 stats. Here are their career slash lines: Howie: .292/.332/.424 Pedroia: .299/.366/.444
  2. If you go even wider on this photo, is Evan Longoria or Troy Tulowitzky in it? #fingers_crossed
  3. I came here for the predictions, but stayed for the unitard line.
  4. You try and get the absolute best starting pitcher(s) you can get. None of this "back end" or "No. 4 or 5 guy." Get another ace.
  5. Pujols would have tried to score. And been thrown out at third.
  6. The base coach made the right call absolutely, but it is interesting to actually ponder the odds. Was there a better chance... a. a disheveled Giants defense pulls it together and Crawford makes a good throw to Posey b. Perez gets a hit or Bumgarner throws a wild pitch
  7. http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2014-10-23/sporting-news-mlb-awards-2014-clayton-kershaw-mike-trout-player-of-the-year Recount!
  8. This much I can tell you about when the photo was taken. It was roughly 2 1/2 hours after the first pitch and previous shots show Mike Trout leaving the dugout to move to the on-deck circle. I had forgotten that this game went extra innings, so my timeline was thrown off. Let me amend my previous context. This photo was taken during the bottom of the eighth inning while Calhoun was batting (and popping up a bunt attempt to move Iannetta to second). Hamilton was back in the same spot again in the ninth, either before or after striking out. Again, there was nobody else on the bench. I regret the error in my timeline. I observed him doing this for two innings. My error was forgetting that everybody got another at-bat later during the extra innings.
  9. I wouldn't have taken the photo nor shared it via social media if I believed I was catching a moment out of context. I watched him sit on the bench by himself for a long time before I got my camera out. I'm sure he wasn't lying when he said he had a headache, but if your head hurts so badly that you can't be on the rail with your teammates for two innings, what business do you have taking at-bats against the best pitchers in the world. I think the results speak for themselves. And for the record, I am not one of these fans who has it in for certain players and I never booed Hamilton; not even that night. I just didn't like what I saw from him in the dugout, and then when he makes comments about how he plays for his teammates, not the fans, it rings really hollow for me. That's all.
  10. I took the photo. Allow me to give you the context. It was taken during the bottom of the sixth inning of Game 1 of the ALDS, while Kole Calhoun was batting. The game was tied, 2-2, at the time. Hamilton sat alone on the bench for the entire inning. This was the inning that ended with Aoki making that stupid catch against the fence on Kendrick's drive. In the bottom of the seventh inning, I looked in the dugout and there was Hamilton again sitting alone in the same spot while everybody else was on the rail. He remained there until it was his turn be on deck. There's your context.
  11. I think Street is a strong possibility. Dude was awesome in 2014.
  12. Johnny Mac had better be in tonight's starting lineup then.
  13. Thanks for making me feel really old. Sigh. That was an amazing season, though. Pretty much cemented by lifelong love of the Halos at age 9.
  14. Journalist buddy working on something and needs to know who are the big celebrity fans of the Angels. Only one I can think of off the top of my head is Bill Engvall. Who else?
  15. Did any season seat holders look for tickets this morning? Mini Plan holders like myself can buy them in an hour. I'm trying to get an idea of what sections cost what. Anybody?

  17. ... Wally Joyner with 116. Second is J.T. Snow with 65. http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2014/8/18/6031461/jedd-gyorko-padres-home-runs-record-second-base
  18. They changed it. Somebody else must've noticed and alerted the website.
  19. I think the on-field relationship between Pujols and Trout has become a major part of the success of this team. Those two are absolutely on the same page, which is vitally important. And even more so, they appear to be having a lot of fun together.
  20. I noticed the other night that when they lit up the halo it actually says "ANGELS WIN" circling around it. Pretty freakin' cool.
