19-1 on Aug. 28 incredibly impressive. W/L record may not be the end all be all, but come on, people, at least acknowledge that his record is eye popping. Then add in the other numbers and you really shouldn't be surprised he's the front-runner, no matter your "advanced metrics."
He's not the front-runner because he's 19-1. He's the front-runner because he's 19-1 with all of the other rankings listed above. ERA isn't the end all be all, either, folks. You've gotta stick around in games in order to win them a lot of the time.

Excuse me. Five division titles.

591-432 (.578) with four division titles beforehand ... 285-275 (.509) with zero postseason appearances since.
Discuss.

Offering constructive criticism here ... that was not good.
If the point of your column was to say "Trout is good, the Angels are not," then you more of less got it across, but that's really not a strong idea around which to craft a column.
Keep writing and keep reading the pros to learn a bit about how to go about it.

A lot of whiffs, sure, but A LOT of regulars and better. Pretty solid chance a top-10 becomes a better-than-average player.

If you could offer me a guarantee that by firing Scioscia the team as currently constructed would suddenly start playing significantly better and contend for the division title in 2014, I'd say "Thanks for the memories, Mike."
But since you can't do that, I'd just as soon keep him. He's an exceptional big league manager. He represents a stability in that role that this franchise had never experienced in the nearly 40 years that preceded his hiring. He's as even-keeled as you could ask of a manager, not visibly riding the highs and lows of a season. Most players, with the exception of a handful, seem to like playing for him.

Should have, not of.

I saw it on Saturday. Loved it. I thought Del Toro brought just the right amount of fun to it to make it way better than it might have been in another director's hands.
If you like the Hellboy movies, you will like this one.

I love that sabermatricians act like the sacrifice bunt should be outlawed from baseball.

Talk to your dad about what it was like to be a fan of the Angels from 1987-2001.

The Angels have 5 sacrifice hits in 548 plate appearances. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I can't believe they had broken escalators on opening day. Maybe they should buy new ones instead of sh*tty free agents. Sigh.

Here's an idea: When the person in front you stands to cheer ... stand and cheer.
Problem solved.
This event is almost as embarrassing as your team's performance last night, Angels. You're pretty much blowing it from every angle right now.

That's not even funny. RT @hoynsie #Indians say Scott Kazmir strained abdominal muscle during workout Monday and may need to go on the DL. -
Is there anything stopping us from still selling our tickets on Stub Hub?

Thanks, all. The lighting of the halo is a great sports tradition. I'm happy to see it get a little (virtual) ink.

I love the flyovers and my kids love them. I'm all for my neighbor's tax dollars being spent to fund them. (Shout out to YK!)

His Wikipedia page used to say something about him really being into S&M.

It really must be said: "an" ace, not "a" ace.
