I thought we needed Cole to compete at an elite level for the next five years and I'm very disappointed we didn't get him despite that rather egregious contract.  Having an ace was like him was our best chance.  
It's not just losing out on him that bothers me, it what I fear is coming next with what is left.   The next series of potential moves could actually be far more damaging to this team and franchise than the Cole contract.  Money is easier to work around when said player is actually performing at an elite level.  
The pivot to Bumgarner or Ryu or even both or perhaps far worse, trading Marsh and others for someone like Boyd will seal our fate for the foreseeable future.  
Eppler has already made some questionable moves this off season.  Let's hope he doesn't compound that with a couple moves that are truly stupid.

So glad we missed out on the two best pitchers available when we are desperate for pitching.

I was really hoping the Angels would have gone after Yoan Moncada at the time and now in hindsight looking at Baldoquin and Moncada its just sad. They were comparing Baldoquin to Moncada in all the reports when we signed him.
Angels have been trying to save money the last few years and it's not working out. I hope Baldoquin turns a corner this year but as of now it does not look good.

At the time of the trade for Cowgill i didn't really get it, we had a ton of outfielders already with shuck, bourjos, trout, hamilton, trumbo. But i guess Dipoto knew what he was doing as it didn't seem to cost much at all. Kyle Johnson who we gave up has been a bust and is only 4 years younger.      But as good as Cowgill has been he's still only got a .700 ops so the people who want him to start over Hamilton full time are a bit out there.
