Pujols long term contract @ $250M = $3B Fox contract over 20yrs.  Probably closer to 36, now off the roids, sit him, play him, Arte doesn't care, he's already got the chicken in the sack.  Astute business move.  Scioscia and Hamilton, not so much.

I had gameday on at work and Gubi was wearing my ears out. Could he pleaee shut up for a few minutes each at bat and let a pitch go by without commenting on what the pitcher should have throw, what he should throw next, what the batter should look for, blah, blah, blah, just stop and let the damn game happen.

70runner got a reaction from meat in Rosenthal: Might be time for Scioscia to leave
Here's the latest inane opinion (since it doesn't absolve Scioscia of responsibility).  Rosenthal has it about right.  This team is 11-20, losing nearly every series, and battling with Houston for last place.  Its a ponderous team centered around a couple multi-millionaires, both struggling to hit their weight.  Scioscia maintains his calm demeanor (at least publically) and his players appear content, as calm as their manager.   Scioscia is responsible for the performance of the team.  Performance has been bad during and since ST and not getting any better.  Scioscia needs to go (with Butcher).  And Arte needs to dump his famous all star model as a free agent hiring strategy.

Get younger and deeper?  Lets see, trade some young guys like PB and Trumbo, even Trout?  Sure.

With the albatross contracts that Arte likes so much, there are few options for younger and deeper.  Basically we've sacrificed the future for now, and now is broke.  Somebody said it, the Angel's strategy to collect as many all stars as possible is an NBA model.  Ask the Lakers how that's working out.

is that every loss brings us 1 game closer to hitting bottom and making the necessary changes to move forward.  Whether that's firing Butcher and/or Scioscia and/or Dipoto and/or Arte finally getting the point that mortgaging the future and signing the biggest FA year after year is not a good way to run a successful organization,

70runner got a reaction from Justabitoutside in Congrats to the team leader in AVG, OBP and SLG
Yea trade him.  No need for any youth, speed, and energy when we can offer another long, huge contract to yet another aging big name.  He'll fit right in with the rest of the dormant multi-millionaires on this team.

Lifeless and apathetic.  Just going through the motions.  If it isn't obvious over the last 3+ years that nothing will change until he is gone then I don't know what would convince you.  He had a great run but should have been gone two seasons ago.

70runner got a reaction from fan_since79 in Scioscia needs to go..
There is an interesting theme in this predictable "dump Scioscia" reaction...how to inject some enthusiasm in a bunch of multi-millionaires who get paid win or lose.  Scioscia's stoic, turn the page mentality works well for a hungry, aggressive team (the small ball days).  Not so much for a team of satisfied players with long term, big contracts,   If they slump, oh well...on to the next paycheck, while Scioscia is telling everyone they will come around so turn the page.  Leave 3 guys on base with no outs, oh well, jog back to the dugout and make sure you don't show any emotion.  Your manager won't.  No worries, you'll be in there the next game.

The counter argument - they are professionals, don't need an incentive and/or a manager that pushes them - is a reasonable one, IF the team has a core of self motivated, aggressive players.  Beyond Weaver and Trout, just don't see it with these guys.  Way too satisfied.  And with a 10 year contract extension himself, Scioscia is pretty satisfied...
