  1. Congrats, man, enjoy your well-earned freedom!
  2. Well, to be fair, hairline fractures can be difficult to spot when there's blood or fluid around the injury. Personal case in point, I had a fracture that X-rays missed for 5 months, until the swelling went down *and* the angle of thr image was such that the break could be seen. After so long, it required surgery to put pins in and have it knit together. It happens.
  3. Don't give his dons any credit, except for them stopping playing fantasy baseball with real live players. They're still pretty awful, but at least they seem to be staying out of the ops side of things (though suspending that reporter for reporting their losing record at Tropicana was on-brand for them) Even Moreno lucked into Vlad, Trout, and Ohtani.
  4. All in on the draft, international draft and signings. And my frustration with Arte probably can't get any worse. He has the worst string of debacle signings and trades of any owner, probably ever - he needs to sell, and take Carpino with him. Yet, these injuries - Trout's broken hamate, Walsh's Covid neurological injury, Ward being beaned, Urshela's broken pelvis, Rengifo, (arguably) these aren't conditioning or age issues. (Rendon, really, does it matter?) But set them and possibly pitching aside, and yes, I still feel like there's something wrong, here. Their home games are played in some of the most forgiving weather of any team. Young guys are being nicked and injured in ways that suggest their core strength may be neglected (obliques, lower-back, hamstrings) - sounds like they need to spend more time doing yoga and less time pumping iron. Looks to me like their strength and conditioning staff are kind of the typical "baseball trainer" in their background - if it were me, I'd look for someone(s) with kinesiology / biomechanics backgrounds to focus on injury prevention and not merely "performance". Ah, that's right, Arte would rather pay "stars" like Rendon, Hamilton, and Pujols than invest in something like that ...
  5. That was awful, it reminded me of Conigliaro and I wondered if he'd make it back - thankfully, seems his eyesight wasn't affected. He has a good attitude, it seems, I hope he comes back to what he was. If there was a last straw that broke the back of our season, this might've been it Thanks for sharing
  6. Sad part about this is the same thing could've been said about this team almost every year since 2015. Funny thing about this is I used to blame Bane for the Angels being like this 10+ years ago, recalling his infamous line (paraphrasing) "I came here to see a hitter - a player takes a walk, I'm walking to my car" But for some set of reasons, this team haven't been able to field a team for 162 that can "hit" - other than home runs. Our OBP/wOBA/RS stats are average, at best, for most seasons. It's injuries, lack of depth, too-young or 2nd tier players taking too many AB's. Is it all just bad luck? Or something else?
  7. Yeah, but do you have to die an "honorable death" every year? I think some sense of loyalty to the team and the players might play a part. But then again, if he were that loyal, he'd still be playing for Hokkaido
  8. I started to type "Angels" into google, and in the "People also ask" section, the following questions are included: "Are the Angels still a major league baseball team" "What are the Angels called now?" I'd say their brand is
  9. Good article, even if it illuminates part of the reason this is yet-another lost season, for yet-more entirely avoidable mistakes and errors in judgement. Wtf is wrong with this organization? Blessed with two future 1st ballot hall-of-famers, cursed with stupid turtles all the way down ...
  10. I wasn't going to watch - Angels baseball hasn't been a source of much good feeling lately - haven't watched many the last few weeks. But I got a notification of the Ohtani homerun, and against my better judgment, turned the tv on. Good game to watch Sure wish we could bottle that version of Detmers - not overwhelming, but just commanded the zone - hope he can find consistency. (and a voice in my head chimes in "Too. Late.") .
  11. Sorry that you're going thru some things, and sending you best wishes, hope it all works out ok. And I know what you're saying - the last month and a half has been a personal 40 miles of bad road, now this week, a neighbor died, and even my cat died the other day. Now deaths here ... The other day, I saw at my Ohtani shirt hanging in my closet and wondered if I should wear it 'cuz I might be running out of chances. But I thought "nah, I'm not wearing that.", and instead put on a Dropkick Murphy's t-shirt and went to an Irish pub. If I can't baseball, I can sure as hell beer ...
  12. Oh, man, looking at that young face is just so sad, my condolences to his friends and family.
  13. Hae fun, and be loud - was in the other room last night when I heard loud cheering - I knew the Giants were batting and thought "someone made a great play" - came in to see the Flores had hit a home run. I mean, I've come to expect that when playing the Red Sox, the Yankees or the Dodgers - but Giants fans?
  14. I didn't know Lou in any meaningful "real-life" way - but in his posts you could see he was witty without being cruel or curdled, and had a good sense of proportion - he seemed to enjoy the team and baseball when things were good, and didn't get angry when they weren't. He enjoyed life, and he enjoyed coming here and sharing. What I'd call a "good dude", and we're always diminished when we lose one of those. I'm struck by the testimonials and the effect he had on so many people here - the butterfly effect, where what he did and who he was ripples out far from him, to many people, and into the future. A reminder that what we say, what we do, large and small, good or bad, it all lives on after us. I hope I'm remembered the way Lou is. Rest In Peace, brother.
  15. I laughed ... ... and then remembered, I'm still an Angels fan ...
  16. His symptoms were terrifying. I agree, I don't think it's that pitchers figured him out, or that his skills evaporated. I think he was injured, neurologically, and it may well be career-ending. I do feel badly for him, and I hope he can continue to work on his recovery, and that the Angels show the grace to keep him in the minors, and let him try.
  17. This. Like you said, the "right" thing to do (other than have a pipeline of players in the minors that we drafted and developed from the US and internationally, and not to make non-productive signings) might've been to trade Ohtani last season for a "big haul" And maybe that would've worked out for us, eventually. Trading him this year to someone who might be willing to overpay might have *still* been the right thing to do. But it would mean he does all the things he does on the daily, maybe reach 62 and get another MVP - in another uniform. The angst over seeing Ohtani perform his feats in another uniform, and almost certainly not coming back, would've killed our fans' collective souls. If you wanted to send a message to him that you're in it to win it? You make that trade. If you want him to re-sign here - which may *also* be a mistake, you make that trade. It's very high-risk - if we don't make the playoffs and he signs elsewhere, it'll be kind of a disaster. (this team really, really, really needs to figure out how to find and develop talent better) But making that trade might've been the only way to keep him an Angel for life - and might be the last chance for the Angels to make a run at the playoffs for a long while. It'll probably not work out - but then again, maybe it will. What was that thing from 2002? Oh yeah, OGAAT.
  18. He clearly didn't come all the way back, and it sucks for him - it must be emotionally really difficult to go thru what he has. I feel for him. I hope the Angels will support him as he tries to recover.
  19. Pretty great day so far - Shohei gets an economical complete game 1-hitter, Ward is looking good (we need some hot hitters to carry us thru the inevitable days a starter blows up), we pick up a solid SP, and perhaps best of all, we can look at a baseball website again without everyone in the planet speculating about / openly cheering for an Ohtani trade, usually with some snark directed at the Angels. Whatever happens from here on out, maybe we can just enjoy baseball, and leave the offseason for the offseason.
  20. Hmm, trying to thread the needle on this one - giving up a lot to influence the outcomes of how many games? If we were actually leading the w/c race and we wanted Giolito for the playoffs, well, maybe. The only reason I can think this made sense was to both give us an inside track to resign Giolito *and* to convince Ohtani to stay. Can't resist the obvious hindsight of "Well, if you'd just re-signed Lorensen ..."
  21. There was a whiff of that when he was in the Nationals minor-league system his first season or two - they were clearly frustrated with him, to the point I thought maybe we could try a "buy-low" trade for him. But whatever frustration the Nats had with him, they kinda got over, obviously - but still I sensed there was always a little bit of distance there.
  22. Don't know about his "stuff" - but this team could use some of his fire down the stretch. Guys like Neto, for example, can have an effect beyond just numbers ..
  23. Yup - every Angel appearance includes some negative remarks about the team and of course "Ohtani trades"
  24. I knew the blown dp by Fletcher was going to lead to a crooked number. Wonder what's worth watching on TV right now?
