  1. If they're going to hire someone to take DiSar's place, I hope they make it a former Angel player. Someone like Grich, Salmon, Erstad, etc. When Mike Scioscia was hired years ago he brought in mostly X- Dodger players as his coaches and that really disappointed me. I know over the years, Bobby Knopp, Rod Carew, & DiSarcina have been on the Angels staff for short periods of time. So I think now is a good time to hire a former Angel player or two and bring back a little tradition to this team. No more Hatcher's or Belcher's (sp).
  2. If it's called an 'international draft', does that mean it will also include Japanese players as well?
  3. I doubt very many players coming out this year are going to receive qualifying offers. $17.2M is really a high number.
  4. A lot of this is speculative. Did they take into consideration that possibly we would not have Mike Trout. He was acquired because we lost Mark Teixeria to free agency, and used that pick (our 2nd pick that year) to acquire Trout. And we would never of had Teixeria in the first place if we hadn't acquired him at the trade deadline. I realize that trout was the second player we drafted that year, right behind Randall Grichuk. So if we would've drafted Trout 1st we would not of had a second pick that year because we may not have had a compensation pick. So now we would have to take Grichuk off the list above as our leftfielder. Just saying . . .
  5. I see 'Crash' is back to batting third again. I wonder what other nicknames his teammates have bestowed on him.
  6. Marte is the type of player that Scioscia likes. He can play several positions (infield & outfield) and is a good pinch hitter. I think the organization will keep him for at least another year. I think Cowart is the one on the bubble unless he can show that he can anchor down second base. The problem is neither Marte or Cowart can play shortstop. So if they keep both they will also have to keep an extra bench player just to play short if Simmons goes down.
  7. This analogy just doesn't make sense to me. Maybe a rule should be made so that all major league teams would be allowed to bring up one minor league player every week so they can just sit in the dugout and experience 'the show'.
  8. Unless the minor league player is going to get playing time why overcrowd the dugout with needless bodies? As has been mentioned many times this year our minor-league system doesn't have many quality major league ready players. In most cases players shouldn't be here until they are ready. Why bring up a player if he is only going to be used as a pinch runner, or be a replacement fielder for an inning or two, or even a relief pitcher who is brought in to the game to face just one batter a week? I think it would be much more beneficial if management waited until spring training to evaluate these types of players. Then these players would have sufficient time to show off their particular set of skills. I know there are a handful of players that the organization would like to take a look at, and that's to be expected. These players all deserve a chance to show off their skills and I hope they all do well. So, don't get me wrong, I'm not against September call ups. I just don't want to see too many players brought up needlessly.
  9. My first thought was about Nick Adenhart also. There was some cell phone footage of trout walking around and he looked fine. Apparently there were several vehicles involved in this accident. The news reporter on TV said trout was on his way home on the 55 freeway after the game.
  10. Yes, it was. It definitely gives a new meaning to the term 'free swinger'. Surprised nobody caught on to the double meaning but you.
  11. Babe Ruth's swing. I guess players back then didn't use cups.
  12. Mixed feelings here. Deep down I was hoping that he would regain some of his old magic. Obviously, if he is ever going to make a comeback, he's got a long way to go. In his prime he was one of my favorite pitchers to watch. However, now it is just too painful to watch him pitch.
  13. Hypothetical - Let's say another team does come calling for Bedrosian, what would the Angels be asking for in return? A starting pitcher, a leftfielder, or high end minor leaguers? Or would the Angels just say - NO ! !
  14. If I remember right, didn't the Angels invite some Indian sharmen to Angel Stadium back in the late 60s or early 70s to preform a sacred ritual to drive off evil spirits? There were rumors that the stadium had been built on an ancient Indian burial ground, and the spirits of those that were buried there had been disturbed and were haunting the Angels. If things keep going the way they are so far this year may be we need to preform another ceremony. Sure wouldn't hurt.
  15. Thanks beatlesrule, I'm just not a Terry Smith fan. Looking forward to having Victor back soon.
  16. Noticed that he hasn't been in the broadcast booth for several days now. Anybody know what's happening?
  17. Awesome. I hope someday Torii senior comes back to the Angels in some capacity.
  18. 23rd round: Angels draft a centerfielder out of Notre Dame. Name Torii Hunter. Any relation to our former centerfielder?
  19. Well, our 9th round pick, catcher Michael Barash should be ably to handle him after catching him for several years at Texas A&M.
  20. Round 10 Texas A&M RHP Andrew Vinson. Battery mate to the catcher we drafted the round before.
  21. Ninth round Texas A&M catcher Michael Barash. Haven't been counting but I think we've drafted more catchers than pictures.
  22. The Angels just drafted Nolan Williams high school shortstop. No school listed
  23. I am beginning to seriously doubt the capabilities of our trainers. Some of these injuries seem to be something that may have been preventable. And why are so many of our pitchers facing surgery?
  24. The offensive stats worry me more than just a bit. We don't seem to be able to get more than two players hot at a time. First week or so it was Escobar & Calhoun. Now it seems to be only Pujols & Trout. Can't score many runs with 7 out of 9 of your players floundering. Luckily, so far, no one in our division is running away with anything. Really proud of our pitchers, especially the starters. They are keeping us in games. The bull-pen has had its ups & downs, but so far they have been a little over-worked by being forced to come into many games early. As soon as we can establish a 'long man' to eat up some of those middle innings, then, I think the bull-pen will settle down & not be a blow-pen. Watching Pujols move up the all time HR list reminds me a lot of the 70's & early 80's when Nolan Ryan, Don Sutton, Rod Carew, & Reggie Jackson were with the Angels, & they were moving up strike-out, win, & all time hits & HR lists. Great memories.
  25. What if several other players brought their kids in just as often? Then they could have 'Father-Son Games' everyday.
