  1. 2003 was pretty terrifying. Strong, dry offshore winds fanning flames in the middle of the night with no warning is a nightmare scenario.
  2. I think you just wrote SNL's opener for this week, too bad they wouldn't have the balls to go that far
  3. "Right after the Justice Department is done suing those colleges over affirmative action, we're gonna need some laws that guarantee equitable TV representation for political parties. It's not fair, Republicans just can't get a chance in elite late night comedy with the existing system so biased against them!"
  4. Lots of punchable faces in this LA/AZ game but Utley must take the cake
  5. news helicopters seem to be stuck near the 91/241, but active end of looks to be headed toward santiago canyon road both up the 241 side and the other side closer to orange
  6. looks like it is headed up toward irvine regional park & santiago college? lot to burn out there...
  7. Hmm I don't have that problem, I can see all the games on TBS or FS1. Sometimes they don't show up in the schedule for some reason, but I've watched most of them. But whatever, glad you found something that works for you.
  8. the blue package gets regional fox sports networks, it is based on your billing address.
  9. definitely agree. i'm usually more skeptical, but in this case it was a huge relief that big brother was on our side, because we were having fires at the bottom of the mountain almost every day for a month earlier in the summer. luckily none took off.
  10. unrelated but they caught an arsonist out here in the san bernardino mountains using strategically located plate scanners that they deployed when they suspected a serial arsonist. pretty effective, cool that they set it up so quickly. just kept seeing the same plate near where a bunch of fires started.
  11. I think we really need one of these big pro-gun types... I don't know, like Ted Nugent, not that he would... to come forward and say enough is enough, I am ready to give up my semi-automatic weapons etc for the greater good. In times like this we hear screams from the liberals but a lot of silence from the pro-gun side, until it all blows over. But if someone could just be brave and get the ball rolling, it might open up the dialogue about how to make our country safer, rather that knee-jerk 2nd amendment arguments or liberal "I told you so's".
  12. I tested out two streams on my TV and phone. It worked great, no problems or bad quality for the 10 minutes or so I had it on. Good to know!
  13. I really enjoyed the original two seasons of Twin Peaks, have watched them all the way through several times. I also love Mulholland Drive, but some of his other movies not so much. I watched the new season. I'm very open minded and had no delusional hope that it would just pick up where it left off, figured Lynch would have to have some good ideas to go through the effort of resurrecting the series. I found the new season extremely tedious until about episode 14. 14-18 were awesome and what I wanted out of the series. For me it was worth the payoff, but I wasn't that invested, just flipped it on here and there when I was up late. Someday I'll go back and watch it through again to see if I like it better when not looking forward to each episode and feeling let down over and over again, but I feel your pain.
  14. Yeah, I looked that up when I was writing that. It's strange because my bill says explicitly "1 stream." So not sure if they have changed the blue package, or if the line item on the bill is misleading. Either way I've never tried, but happy to give it a shot tonight.
  15. Sorry, only use one stream at a time, haven't tried multiple. I think I only get one stream, but if I get a chance I can try when I get home.
  16. i went sling this year, because it has fox sports west and nbc sports and that's about 90% of my tv time right there. btw, sling has fox 11 too, so you'll get the ws too. i have the package without espn. it also doesn't get abc or cbs, which is annoying for other sports. at first i thought it looked jumpy compared to the normal cable broadcast, but i don't feel that way anymore, so not sure if i got used to it or it was just a temporary thing. it definitely has a delay but doesn't bother me. the interface is nice and easy. every once in a while it'll buffer or freeze, but really not that often, once a month or so. the strangest thing is that each channel has it's own rules about rewinding and fast forward. for some reason, you can't go back during a live broadcast on fsw, which is annoying if you miss something and want to replay. you can dvr the games and it works well, i think it costs $5 extra per month for the dvr option. the other annoying thing is the sling login doesn't work for all the dedicated channel apps, for instance i don't think i was able to log in to fox sports go. i've had some problems with the on-demand offerings from some channels, for instance i had showtime and whenever i tried to watch on-demand it would freeze up every few minutes, very annoying and not my internet connection. but overall i'm pretty happy with it, it's not saving that much compared to cable but i had really shitty charter so this is much better.
  17. fuck. i got called tom petty for years because i looked sorta like him in hs/college. one time in hs my buddy and i were outside tower waiting to buy tickets, he was joking about how i looked like him, and out of nowhere these two dudes walk by and one randomly says to the other "fact: tom petty is the ugliest man in the world."
  18. This is the real worry. Getting rid this year vs next year would just be the cherry on top. Also, it's infinitely more fun to hate on Dipoto with Scioscia still around.
  19. overt racism has diminished, especially out here where most of us live, but that doesn't mean that systemic racism isn't still a huge problem. someone mentioned that the irish used to be discriminated against. as did the italians, and countless other immigrant groups. but they aren't anymore. most african american families can trace their roots in the US back way farther than i can (irish/italian descent), but the wealth and education gaps for them has not gone away. they couldn't really count on being equal by law until the 60's, but still, it doesn't seem to be getting any better for them as a group. some stats from studies that aren't just my opinion: median wealth for single woman who is: white: $41k, african american: $100, latino: $120 job applicants with "white sounding" names get called back 50% more than those with "black sounding" names, with the same resume drug sentencing disparities between crack and cocaine african americans are 30% more likely to get pulled over than whites african americans with a college degree have twice the unemployment rate of whites with the same degree that's not even carelessly throwing the word "racist" at anyone, just the net effect of our daily lives. one can argue all day about the root cause of these types of discrepancies, but they exist.
  20. ha awesome. there are plenty of reasons why i couldn't make it in academia, my attention to detail being one of them.
  21. Sure, they shouldn't do it when, you know, a bunch of white people are watching and might actually consider the racial divide in america. why don't they just fuck off back to the ghetto on everyone's free time and stand on a street corner with a sign where people who care can see the protest, and let me stay in my cozy bubble where racism "officially ended" 50+ years ago?
