  1. Bingo.. The typical Angels week goes like this... M - squeaker win (Pujols and/or Trout do something) T - squeaker loss (Pujols and/or Trout do something but it's not enough) W - blowout loss (Pujols or Trout contained) T - off day F - squeaker win (Pujols and/or Trout do something) S - squeaker loss (Pujols and/or Trout do something but nobody else does) S - blowout win (Someone besides AP and Trout shows up) It's hard to get excited about mediocrity.
  2. It drops off pretty quickly... Here is one such look at it...http://viewfromthebleachers.com/blog/2012/08/23/success-rate-of-mlb-draft-picks-by-slot/
  3. The success rate for players taken among the first ten picks of the first round (and in particular position players), is significantly higher than anywhere else. Yeah, guys like Pujols and Piazza happen but they are rarities.
  4. This is about as spot on as a person could get .. GA would have been much more appreciated in any other era other than the steroid years. It didnt help any that the local fishwraps were really into red asses and made guys like Disar and Erstad into massive fan favorites. People would watch Erstad run into a wall in game 1 of a 162 game season and swoon... nevermind the results or if it impacted his performance... Then they's watch GA do his thing, pull up, play intelligently and BOOM.. he was lazy and lacked "passion".
  5. Yeah.. it's a hard habit to drop, even when the team kicks in you the junk on a near daily basis.
  6. Gotcha.... and yet here you are on a daily basis moaning and groaning about games that don't matter and about a team you seem really eager to move on from anyway... You've mistaken yourself as a sufferer when in reality you've just become insufferable. Whatever floats your boat..
  7. The Rangers need a guy named Chuey.... Of course, if Mike Scioscia was managing the Rangers then he would call Choo, Chooey....
  8. I tend to agree with you -- the left handed Troy Glaus looks like he could stick at 3B long term.
  9. Hasn't Alfaro been shut down, possibly for the rest of the season with an injury?
  10. My guess is they would want Nomar Mazara and possibly Chi-Chi Gonzalez. They seem content with Maikel Franco at 3B.
  11. SportsCenter ‏@SportsCenter 38m38 minutes ago Crazy Stat of Day: Albert Pujols 15 HR since May 28th are more than the Braves (14), Mariners (14), and Indians (13).
  12. I never saw you as negative on Grichuk.. You, SoWhat and others were concerned about his being a hack.... (he is). But I don't recall you dismissing his defense or his power... I mean as much as I like him, he's got hackish ways which IMO will keep him from being a special player.
  13. All prospects are unproven depth until they actually come up and prove it.
  14. Heaney is the new Grichuk. People are looking at the basic counting stats and completely ignoring the rates, the league, the park... Even after crapping the bed like some feel he's done of late the dude has a FIP of 2.71. (4.16 league average) Yeah his ERA is high but a large part of that is a BABIP near .400... People can argue that he will be a guy that will always produce contact and that's fair but he's got Rutledge, Cron, and Green, playing defense behind him in AAA. His predictive rates are all league average or better and his FB pull rate is below 30% which is excellent. Heaney's never going to be dominant -- the lack of a truly impressive FB will always be an issue, but he will pitch backwards, curveball guys to death and be solid middle of the rotation guy.
  15. Well, if it makes you feel better, some of them seem to have her swing down.
  16. That kid already has better mechanics than Jordan Walden..... and better velocity than Weaver..
  17. The Segura trade didn't bother me one bit. I actually thought that until the Trumbo trade it had been Jerry's best move as GM. Grienke for Segura and two non prospects was IMO a steal. I'd feel the same way even if Segura had kept playing well.. A legit Cy Young caliber arm for a single prospect was about as a good a job of maximizing value as a GM could make IMO.
  18. Not sure what was so secret, I was posting numbers left and right in the minor league forum that all pretty much led to the same conclusion -- he was a player on the cusp.... the indicators were there for everyone to see .. but I'd sooner argue the Angels made that move because they didn't like what they saw in Cowart .vs anything they didn't see in Grichuk For me a better criticism of the Angels is what they thought they saw in Freese that was worth completely obliterating their OF depth for.
