I think you’re on a good path tbh. You’ll find that sports are much more enjoyable the more detached you become.

Arte can’t keep his mits out of interfering with everything. Doubt that’ll go over well with Dombrowski. Can’t see him coming unless Arte agrees to let him have control.

At least Adell will still finish with more HR's hit(3) than HR assists(2). This is something to build on

The longer this year went on without baseball, the less interested I became in this year. Not being able to go to games, just killed it for me. Watching it on TV just didn't do it for me. The fake fan noise, the crazy rules, etc., just didn't make it enjoyable. I tried to watch, but I ended up doing something else or watching something else most of the time.
The negative crap in this forum got old reallly, really fast.
So... I sort of took the year off. You could say I opted out.
I'll be back, but I just didn't care that much this year. I got used to not having baseball and the thought of the Angels getting to the postseason without being able to attend games just made me apathetic.
Again, I'll be back. But right at this moment, baseball doesn't mean much to me.
I'm just tired of the pandemic and all that goes along with it.

Mike Trout doesn't like to lose? Why in the world did he sign an extension then? He's on the wrong team.

It's illegal for athletes to bet on games. And Pujols can't retire soon enough. Hasn't been the same ever since he stopped using steroids after leaving the Cardinals and McGwire.

Interesting narrative being born. This is right up there with blaming the Angels’ losing seasons on other teams being too good.

Yeah I totally forgot that teams NEED TO BE GOOD to win, I FORGOT THAT BUDDY.  LET ME GO TELL MY MUM WHAT I LEARNED TODAY.

LAST I CHECKED WE WERE ONE OF THE HOTTEST TEAMS IN BASEBALL PRIOT TO THAT GAME, STILL CAN'T EXPECT TO BEAT A LOADED DODGERS SQUAD TRYING TO WIN.

Vladdylonglegs reacted to jsnpritchett in Optimism: The math version
I want to be optimistic (god knows there's enough bad news in literally every other aspect of the world these days), but I'm still finding it hard to be.  Seems like there have been threads similar to this one (or AngelJunky's, or...etc.) every year for the past few years--yet the end results are still the same: mediocrity.  Whether it's "culture," bad talent assessment, poor financial resource management, something else altogether, or a combination of things, I honestly have no idea at this point.  I'm all for stats, data, deep analysis, etc. (data is a huge part of my career), but for whatever reason, it seems like we're always looking for some silver-lining, saying that FIP or baseruns, or whatever other metric someone wants to cite actually shows that the Angels should have been better.  But they aren't.  So there's a disconnect somewhere.
I fully realize I'm just rambling at this point.  Not having a great week and genuinely looking for hope somewhere.  Clearly struggling to find it.  Ha.

Tony Azevedo was water polo's equivalent of Tiger or Kobe.  Biggest star power in the sport.  Doesn't mean he has the star power of Tiger Frigging Woods.
Being baseball's biggest star doesn't put you even close to Tiger or Kobe level.  This isn't Mickey Mantle in 1965.

LOL - Pujols was such a super duper mega star that the Angels attendance went down 100,000 his first year in Anaheim.

    Man, you guys are delusional.

    yes.  this is true.
I have no doubt that Arte wants to win and the primary reason for doing what he does is to give the team a better chance to do so.
but Arte needs to stop approaching a major league baseball team like it's an NBA team.

You honestly can't be serious! Albert right below Tiger? Tiger was probably the most popular athlete in the world. He literally by himself created the Nike Golf world. Please tell me even the shoe brand that Pujols endorses? I couldn't tell you who sponsors Albert. Tiger had EA Nike and every other major brand company. Albert is a household name in baseball circles. I bet if you said Albert Pujols to random stranger on the street they wouldn't know who he was. Tiger not only is probably the greatest golfer or at the very least top two greatest golfers in the history of the sport, but he had one of the craziest controversies surrounding him with the sex addict, pills, TMZ thing. Albert has probably never been the most popular baseball player in the MLB. Even in his prime.
Agree, I don't think Arte just wants marketable guys. He wants to win. I liken Arte to Jerry Jones. It's his team, he wants the final say and he thinks he knows what's best. For better or worse.
