  1. Oktoberfest is back at the Anaheim Brewery. Yum! In other Anaheim beer news, for those who enjoy outdoor beer festivals, on September 21st, the 2nd annual Anaheim Fest of Ales will be held in downtown Anaheim. Their website should give you most of the details: ocfestofales.net There will be a 5K run, with cool obstacle course, in the morning, followed by an all-day beer tasting. So far, there are over 30 breweries committed to the event. A basic admission ticket will get you 10 tastes, while a VIP ticket gets you unlimited tastes, plus food pairings to go along with your suds. You can also enter your own homemade brews into a tasting competition, in case anyone on here homebrews, or knows someone interested in competing. Volunteers to work the booths are still in demand. By volunteering, you will get a shirt, free tastes, and if you work the afternoon shift, once the event is over you get to finish any remaining kegs. PM me if you feel up to the task, and I will put you in contact with the event coordinators.
  2. Lol. I don't have the exact figures in front of me, but my guess is that I would need to borrow some fingers and toes to tally them all up.
  3. I like that idea! My folks were in Boston on a day the Sox were on the road, so they got a table at their 'under the bleachers' restaurant, which has a chainlink fence window that looks out on right field. Sounded pretty cool to me. Maybe as part of this rennovation they could also do something with the old bullpens out beyond right field, llike outdoor seating with a view into the playing field, with a screen overhead to catch homerun balls?
  4. The original Robocops were all absolutely terrible. If the idea hadn't been done yet, and this was fresh for 2014, then would you consider it? The biggest problem with the 80's flicks was the shitty makeup and props, and the lack of CGI. At least with this one, they seem to have remedied those kinds of shortcomings.
  5. With Angel Stadium being in overall decent shape, I would think that alot of the money earmarked for rennovations would go to infrastructure improvements. I might be in the minority, but ammenities-wise, I'm satisfied with the way things are now. I think Arte could get better bang for his buck by sinking, let's say, $150 or $200 mil into the current stadium, versus shelling out $700 mil for a new one.
  6. Oh, and re: property values, the Mills Act offers excellent incentives for home owners living in historic (read: old) homes to maintain their properties, instead of tearing down or otherwise rennivating them. The City of Orange offers similar tax breaks and stuff, and look how nice their residential areas look near the circle. This isn't a new thing, but it helps to keep the city's history intact and I would think improves civic pride.
  7. For starters, lots of new housing (condos and flats) coupled with monetary incentives from the city to move to the area. And there are plenty of single family homes within the city as well. Property values have increased 10-15% in the past year, and are projected to increase by a similar amount within the next year as well. I don't know how this compares to sureounding cities, but it's encouraging. One thing that needs to improve, and I don't know how you do it, is the quality of schools (especially elementary schools). There has been continued funding in support of maintaining our police and other public service departments, and encouraging rhetoric on reducing gangs and improving piblic safety in public parks. Maybe that's a start?
  8. With the amount of money that the CoA is spending on redevelopment of the downtown area and the ARTIC, plus the attempt they made at the Platinum Triangle (there's still hope yet, I think), a potential new stadium on the same property would fit right in with their vision. The city planners are really going all out to revitalize Anaheim, and so far they are doing a really nice job of it. There are also a LOT of locals who are volunteering time and money to civic programs and events, myself included. Within the next 5 years, Anaheim will be a serious destination for new families, and young professionals downtown, and will have an improved mass transportation system right next to the stadium. Whether we get a new stadium or improve the existing one, all while adding some more amenities and businesses to the immediate surrounding area, it would be in the best interest of Arte and the CoA to keep the team in the same spot. (I'm a native Anaheimian and my enthusiasm for the city's future is certainly affected by my love of Anaheim, but I think what I described is pretty accurate)
  9. I had a bottle of Golden Chaos last night at Paul's in the orange circle. Despite being hammered when drinking it, and having a jack and coke in my other hand, I recall it being pretty delicious. I think.
  10. Yeah, not sure what his deal is. After reading a couplle news articles on him, it sounds like he just forgot how to pitch effectively. He's not injured or anything, and he's only 28, and only a couple years removed from being one of the better setup men in the league.
  11. Aside from him only being 30, I'm shocked he's been in the league for 10 years.
  12. Damn, Lawrence, excellent couple of posts. We should be friends. Not mentioned yet: Slightly Stoopid They do an awesome live show. Constantly playing on my ipod, and easily on my all-time top 10 bands list.
  13. No Doubt did an interview with Anaheim Magazine (or whatever that free mailer is that they send out every month or two) a few years back, and they mentioned that Mexi Casa is their favorite mexican restaurant. I met them there back around 2004 or 2005. The Eagles would be first on my Least Favorite California Bands list. Social Distortion Rancid (and Operation Ivy) Green Day Dead Kennedys
  14. While going through the list of bands everyone is posting in the 'Greatest American Band' thread, it dawned on me that a great many of them are from California. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_California ^ this might help if you start running out of ideas Growing up in Orange County, ska/punk was huge when I was a kid, with bands like Reel Big Fish (Huntington Beach), Save Ferris (Anaheim/OC), No Doubt (Anaheim), and Sublime (Long Beach) getting a ton of airplay. In looking at that Wikipedia page, I forgot that The Byrds were from Los Angeles. and I had no idea that Merle Haggard was from Bakersfield.
  15. Well, William Davis, the things you think of don't really surprise anyone these days.
  16. Now go do... That voodoo... That YOU do... So welllllllll!!!
  17. Nelson has come up 3 times in a row in a critical moment, or with 2 outs, or both. I only turned the game on in the 7th or 8th, but do we NOT have someone to pinch hit for him? No idea how the defense would shuffle around.
  18. I haven't seen a single TV since I landed, therefore, ESPN does not exist here. Ah, and furthermore, I haven't paid for the MLB app in years for my phone, somehow it keeps updating. I'm not so lucky on other devices.
  19. I'm vacationing in South Africa, and unfortunately a straight up insomniac right now. Tonight's game starts at 1:00am local, and should end before I have to be 'up' at 4:00am. I've got the MLB app on my phone, but it's wifi reception is way too spotty, however, my exceedingly not-updated iPod touch maintains connection like a champ. How do I make this work?
  20. Drinking Castle Lager and Carling Black Label in the middle of nowhere, South Africa
