  1. They traded Junk, Peguero, and Seminaris to get him before the season. You'd maybe get a guy similar to one of those three in return for him at the deadline. I suppose that's better than getting nothing and letting him walk, but it essentially amounts to a fringe-y 40-man roster guy. That said, I'm all for dumping him, as I don't think he's going to make a difference for the Angels over the next 70 games.
  2. In theory, yes. In reality, no. No one is going to vote a guy who plays 50 games in one league as the MVP when you've got other candidates like Acuna.
  3. Am I missing something? Why would they go over slot for someone like Hurley? He doesn't have a ton of leverage. Sure, he could go back for his senior year, but he'd be an "old 22" after his season next year and unless he has a year like Crews or something, it's doubtful he'd jump into the first round.
  4. They're not getting many decent prospects for Renfroe. Urshela obviously won't be traded, since he's out for the year. Moore might fetch a live body if he comes back and pitches well, but I doubt he'll get you anyone with any real upside. Loup gets you something slightly north of a bag of balls, maybe. Devenski, same as Loup. That's about it, really. If you're counting Moustakas and/or Escobar, again, not gonna get much, if anything, for them, especially given how they've hit since coming to the Angels.
  5. To me, he's like a combo of Willie McCovey and Rickey Henderson.
  6. ...but we've got a guy with a 5 ERA and a 1.5 WHIP--and we get him for TWO MORE YEARS!
  7. What a bust he has turned out to be, btw. Zero power so far. Also, BBRef has Schanuel listed at 6'4", 220. MLB Network has him at 6'3", 195! Quite a difference!
  8. His last year was 2012. It's not like he played in the 1950s.
  9. Am I crazy, or is Vargas not really an OF? He's only played 30 games in the OF in his professional career.
  10. And for what it's worth, aside from Othani, next off-season is pretty thin on top-tier talent. Teoscar Hernandez, who is basically a slightly better Hunter Renfroe, is currently ranked 7th on MLB Trade Rumors' free agent power rankings. That should tell you all you need to know about the depth of the class. Looking at the specific positions where the Angels could use an upgrade, 1B is really bleak. You're looking at Josh Bell maybe being the best option if he opts out of his deal for 2024--which he might not even do, since he's having such a soft year this year. After that, maybe a coming-off-of-injury Rhys Hopkins or a 40-year-old Joey Votto is your best bet. At OF/DH, there's not much, either. Maybe Canha, but he's cheap enough that the Mets will probably pick up his option (if they don't trade him this year). Bader? Soler? There's just not much there... Second base is such a wasteland that it's not even worth discussing. Starting pitching, Urias, Nola, Snell, and Giolito, likely Stroman.
  11. What are you talking about? 8 of the 15 AL teams are above .500, two more are at exactly .500 coming into today, and the Angels are one game under.
  12. Can't believe I missed that one. I'm rusty from not posting for so long.
  13. Teel has never played 3B. Doesn't mean they can't convert him, of course. But I'm hoping they go in another direction.
  14. In their last mock draft update, both of MLB.com's guys have the Angels taking Matt Thaiss 2.0: https://www.mlb.com/news/final-mlb-mock-draft-2023?t=mlb-draft-coverage
  15. Both are important to look at. My point was not to say that the Angels haven't had a lot of injuries. Of course they have. But other teams have had several impact players hurt for extended periods of time and have managed to weather it. Injuries are a major component of the Angels struggles--but so is underperformance by any number of players.
  16. Lol. Your original post didn't make it clear that you meant only position players (you list Moore among the injured--in fact, you list him twice).
