  1. Injury and an unspecified family/personal issue that's apparently quite serious.
  2. Yep. Which is why they 100% should trade him if they're not in the thick of the playoff race at the deadline.
  3. You're right: he's being paid $38.6M this year to have one XBH in 50 PAs.
  4. Maybe he can eke out 5 innings now, at least? That's something, given how much the bullpen has been used lately.
  5. They'll probably go something like 5-2 or 6-1 in the next two series against the Royals and A's, and people will start thinking they're back on track.
  6. I don't disagree with you. I've only been referencing what the actual definition of a media market/DMA is and how/why it's currently used. A few folks in this thread didn't seem to know or understand. (Side note: I was a senior exec at a company that used to be owned by Nielsen, so I unfortunately know more about this stuff than I care to, quite honestly. Ha...)
  7. I'm just stating facts and explaining things for people who don't seem to know what they're talking about.
  8. Traditional TV viewership and radio listenership is obviously lower than it was in previous years, but ratings still matter when determining advertising rates--so not sure why you're "lol'ing."
  9. Again, you're framing this as if Nielsen is pulling some sort of a scam or they're out to get Vegas. Media markets are defined by a combination of population and geography that creates the most effective/efficient means of distributing broadcast media. There are large swaths of, say, Idaho where there's not enough of a population to make it financially feasible for TV and radio stations to exist--so those areas are serviced by media in other cities, such as Salt Lake City. That's all the DMAs are: a way of calculating the reach of broadcast media to help in setting advertising rates. There's no conspiracy here.
  10. You keep using the word "believe" as if they're just making up stuff. It's all about how things are defined. The Salt Lake media market covers 38 counties across three states in addition to Utah. The Vegas one covers three counties.
  11. No. Nielsen's "TV household" metric simply means a location/home that has at least one TV. Each "TV household" represents an average of a little over 2.5 people.
  12. Yeah, but he made that decision in 2017, not in 2023. In 2015, they went 85-77 and missed the playoffs by 3 games. They went 74-88 and 80-82 the next two seasons. So, sure, they weren't coming off a dominant stretch, but it wasn't as bleak of a situation as it is now.
