  1. I still don't believe that Arte and co. wouldn't go a little into the tax if the right deal was there. Also: We should get together sometime at watch a game sometime. Morristown isn't that far away!
  2. Bullpens are like Basketball teams. Adding two good options make all the pieces fit better and make the remaining pieces perform better than they would without them
  3. I don't totally disagree, but here's another way of looking at it: 1) the FO decided not to fix a bad pitching staff by overspending on mediocrity. 2) we exchanged our second or third best outfielder (out of four) to fill a giant defensive and offensive hole it 3rd base. 3) We let a pitcher who gave us a few pretty good years go-- for an improved chance at having an ACTUAL solution to our pitching woes. That is admittedly the sunny view. But dude-- its Infamy day. Let's wait for the moves to be made before we judge the offseason (or, if you prefer, lets wait to see the "mistakes" become fully realized before criticizing them).
  4. If the Yanks would give up a catcher, the Rays might be interested. Still-- I don't know that we'd get enough pitching from the Yanks to make it work.
  5. I don't think so. They need a 2B now-- but they have other options, too. They have two SS in Gregorius and prospect Chris Owings who could, theoretically be a SS/ 2B option. They could also make a move at 3rd and move Prado to 2nd.
  6. Volquez might be a solid pen option, but not for the Halo's. Seriously: Roberto Hernandez wouldn't completely ruin my day.
  7. Guys I agree, though I do think any deal involving Trumbo will probably be interpreted by many here as a ".50 on the dollar" trade. I don't think that his value is terribly high. Of course, with extra OF's, the Diamondbacks could spare one to help out the bench and/or add a trade chip. Also: don't discount the fact that 1) we'd be taking TWO potential SP's from them; 2) they would be taking more salary.
  8. I agree with this, though I have a man crush on Corey Hart (assuming his price tag isn't too high).
  9. Trumbo + Kendrick + Jepsen = Cahill/ Skaggs. Ok, so its not that simple. But I've thought the D-Backs were a perfect trade partner for the Angels for a while. Ahem. #tootin'myownhorn
  10. That actually sounds like an awful christmas.
  11. Also: Roberto Hernadez: #5 Starter next year. Book it (as a strong possibility).
  12. I might write about this soon (probably should) but I am starting to get the feeling that the Angels are going to do something they've said they won't: go over the tax, trade Aybar or Trumbo, black mail a team to take Hamilton's contract-- somthing has to give.
  13. Maybe I'm insane, but why is everyone assuming that Colon gets more than 6 million a year? I can see 8 on a one year deal, but not much more. 40 year olds with PED history and a weight problem just don't seem that valuable to me.
  14. Doesn't seem like a Rays type deal, but it would be PERFECT for the Angels. Rays would probably want at least 1 relief pitcher. They would probably take Jepsen and he'd start churning out 70 inning, 2.80 ERA years because they're the Rays and that's what they do. I will say, though: The ONE thing Trumbo brings-- power-- is redundant. Like it or not, This team will go as far as Trout-Pujols-Hamilton will take it. Trumbo does not have the requisite hitting ability or patience or defense (He's good, but a healthy Pujols is better) to take this team anywhere on his own. As an ancillary piece to the core ( the trio mentioned above plus Kendrick,Weaver, and Wilson) he's less valuable to how this team is constructed than a young, controllable, arm.
  15. I hate this part of the offseason. People waste pixels complaining about organizational flaws and making dramatic statements about how bad we are when all of their arguments will either be invalid or improved in a few weeks.
  16. The thing that scares me about Ubaldo is how awful he is. 1 half of a good season in the past three.
  17. I think the best option to trade Trumbo is in a package. Trade him with Kendrick and I think more teams would be interested. No, not the Rays. But Royals, Mariners, Nats, 'Zona, and even NYM (just makes sense, though they do have A pretty good 2nd base prospect) seem like they would be interested. How about the Pirates? Offer them Trumbo/ Aybar and see if we can't get a starter and a couple of prospects.
  18. I've always liked this idea, though the one major problem is that I'm not sure who they give up. Ross Detweiler? Taylor Jordan? Zimmerman is a pipe dream, Gio seems like more than they'd want to give up.
  19. Seems to me like the Royals, Dodgers, and Blue Jays (in that order) are the best bets-- both because of availability and the desirability of the return.
  20. If I might disagree with our fearless leader, a trade of Kendrick and a piece or two for Skaggs and Cahill ( or maybe something like Skaggs and Gregorious) might be more in line with the value of the perspective pieces. Thought I must admit that every time I watch Cahill, the dude is lights out-- and because of this I have an unnaturally high opinion of him.
  21. Racist racism is stupid, but also remember that Texas (and indeed much of the south) is much more culturally vibrant than given credit for. Even if there are 100 idiots on twitter who don't have the shame and sense to know when they are being very stupid.
  22. I like the trades-- especially if it would mean Corey Hart as the new Trumbo. If we don't have Trumbo, Hart is the perfect fit for this club-- he can play LF, 1B, DH and will get on base more than Trumbo.
