  1. Let's be real: just about any combination we list here (assuming we stick to players who will actually play for the Halos) is possible. Calling my shot that this happens at one point: Trout Pujols Freese Ibanez Hamilton Kendrick Aybar Iannetta Calhoun
  2. I just wish the Pirates would be willing to budge here. The upgrade from Barmes to Aybar seems potentially enormous, but I am not sure who they give up. Jeff Locke?
  3. That was so strange. Morales should have accepted, but the Mariners should NEVER have offered.
  4. I am not a fan of Reynolds, but then again I am not a huge fan of Ibanez either. I don't like super old players-- unless they are Sean Casey, and even then only as a part-time type player.
  5. The general consensus is that the White Sox made a move to help rebuild, the Angels got exactly what they needed in one fell swoop, and that the Diamondbacks got a much lower return than they could have gotten.
  6. Santiago is a better value as a starter. Not only are his stats better as a starter, but a healthy Santiago gives us a minimum of an extra 100-120 innings over what he would give us as a RP.
  7. I think these concerns had to do with a general lack of confidence in Dipotos ability to get fair value for the trade.
  8. I'd expect to hear a rumor or three about potential targets at SP and DH. I doubt we go out and make a signing right away. One thing could change: if Corey Hart signs soon, that could speed up the market for bats. I think the big three starters (Garza, Jimenez, Santana) will take a bit longer and will gum up the FA market for pitching.
  9. Let's not act like the company that pays Harold Reynolds, Mitch Williams, and Kevin Millar is some bastion of perspicacity. The real question is: why is ANYONE depending upon TV networks for baseball analysis? The internet is better.
  10. Pretty much. Is younger, cheaper, and more attractive. Well, probably that last one.
  11. Um.... they wouldn't be surrendering a pic... and my joke was pointing out that you said, "Ok, so if someone likes him, and he's cheap, and they would give up a 1st rounder, then yeah, he'll get signed," which is true about EVERY free agent who has ever signed.
  12. So if someone is willing to ignore the reasons not to sign him... they'll sign him?
  13. He's not good anymore.... OBP was .297 last year.
  14. That was always the real shame. His hit tool and his eye never gave him the opportunity to tap into his full power-- which, frankly, is frightening.
  15. Sure. Here's my thoughts: http://angelswinblog.blogspot.com/2013/12/breaking-down-trade-weve-all-been.html. "Santiago has decent stats last season, but was a tad lucky last season (..289 BABIP). He's know for throwing a screwball despite the fact that he doesn't throw it often or effectively. He is mainly a fastball/ change up guy, which he throws about 93 and 83 MPH, respectively. As a guy with a control problem (5.1 BB/ 9), he should focus on his Fastball/change up/ curve combination, which give him the most whiffs of all his pitches. (He also throws a cutter, which might be a useful "show-me" pitch for now and is good enough to develop over the next couple of seasons). Thinking of him as a solid #4 option is probably best for Angels fans who want to temper expectation. His upside is higher than that, and he might reach it pretty soon with more experience on the mound PLUS a move to a much more pitcher friendly park."
  16. Also to Garza's Credit: he went to Fresno State to be near his son, whom was born while he was in high school. Also, by all accounts, he was a good teammate with the Cubs.
  17. Let's be clear: Matt Garza once tweeted some really sexist things. Despicable? Yes. But there is no evidence that he beats his wife.
  18. I have to say it again-- Mitch Williams has said ONE smart thing in all the years he's been doing this for a living-- high heat gets K's. Everything else that comes out of that mans mouth is just terrible. At least Harold Reynolds occasionally says something smart and when he's flailing in an argument against Brian Kenney he looks like he's tried to think about it a little bit.
  19. Too many baseball analysts are players, who tend to value the things that get them paid: Home Runs, RBI's, Wins, Saves. They end up sounding like Harold Reynolds and Mitch Williams, who is the reason why I only get MLB network during the season. They don't factor in the economic advantage of having cost controlled pitching or the real value of OBP.
  20. One thing people remember: While the Luxury tax ain't going up until 2017, many small and mid-market teams are going to be getting 26 MILLION more in revenue from MLB. That is going to drive up the cost of middle-tier free agents. $15 Million might seem high for Garza now, but the next three years it would be a relative bargain.
  21. I wouldn't do a 2 year deal above 10 Million for him. I don't see him making it through the season as a viable starter. No particular reason other than the fact that he's already over 40. I could easily see him being a 10 million dollar pile of burning money i year two.
  22. Jason Giambi "hit" .182/.282/ .371 (in 186 AB's). (Only 4 DH's qualified for the batting title last season). I like Green to get some DH AB's. He need's AB's to develop and there's not a position for him left on this team.
