  1. Thanks for the links mulwin. Nottingham is a typical Beane acquistion(high OBP). Mengden looks like a decent pitching prospect based off his stats. Seems like a good trade for both sides for a few months of Kazmir.
  2. I am glad Albert is finally hitting the way we all know he's capable of.

He looks like a completely different batter than we've seen this entire time in an Angel uniform.

It looks like he has it back, and I hope it's here to stay!

Glad someone made a thread for this, Albert deserves some love.

Although Albert had a pretty solid season in 2012, he looks even better during this current streak. .289/.320/.603 over his last 30 games! Not quite vintage Pujols, but it sure is nice to see this kind of production from him.

  3. Yeah, it sucks when they drop off offensively between levels.  The guy obviously could rake at A, A+, and AA and even his AAA numbers were fine but he was historically bad once he got on the 25 man roster.  Same thing with Brandon Wood...the guy had 100 extra basehits one season between three levels and still put up solid numbers at AA and AAA on a shuttle between there and Anaheim but he could never get close to figuring it out at the MLB level.  In 2010, the Angels gave him a ful fledge shot at owning the 3B position and he put a .146 .176 OBP .208 SLG .382 OPS 6 BB 71 SO 6 OPS+ in 243 PAs...I didn't even know that shitty of a performance was possible.

Its crazy to think Mathis was compared to Mauer back in the day, dude didn't even come close to that projection. I knew Wood was bad the year they gave him a shot, I had forgotten how bad he actually was. Those are some historically bad numbers. Its a shame he never paned out, seemed like a good guy.

  4. I guess I can take a wait-and-see approach. After all, catchers are late bloomers with the stick, anyway (with obvious exceptions). How long did it take Yadi to be a productive hitter?

Didn't post a 100 or better ops+ until his 5th season in the Majors. I agree with the wait and see approach. Scouts aren't 100% right all of the time, so there is definitly a chance Ward could exceed expectations or he could turn out to be a bust...another Mathis. Guess we'll know in a couple of years.

  5. Hopefully something.   I know nothing about the kid, I'm not going to get bent about random scout comments.  But looking at his college numbers, he knows how to milk a walk and he posted an OPS over 1.000 in a very limited (tiny) sample size in the Cape Cod League.

He does seem to have some decent ability to draw the walk based those numbers. I'm not saying I hate the pick, just seems like a bit of a head scratcher. Looks like he could be Iannetta like with the bat(not counting this year), but a lot better defensively and I be totally fine with that.

  6. Im not sure how closely you follow the Phins, but its my opinion that Tannehill is far from being an issue. The Oline,RB s and WRs have all been major issues the last few years. Not the mention the D falling apart in the second half of what seems like every game. Most of those problems have been addressed over the last two years. While Qbs are a huge part of the winning formula these days, its not all on them. As its been mentioned before he has improved every year and now has offensive pieces that compliment him. Don't be suprised to see him take the next step.

  7. As a Dolphins fan, I'm fine with the signing. Tannehill has skills and has shown improvment every year, they have also added pieces this offseason that fit Tannehills skill set and the offenesive scheme. After years of below average QBs since Marino retired, Tannehill has been a godsend. I expect them to be competitive this year and for the life of the contract.
