Good news as South Korea said recovered COVID-19 patients who tested positive again did so because of dead virus fragments not because they were reinfected or reactivated:

I would argue the right of everyone else to get back to some safe semblance of normal in the quickest time frame possible trumps your desire to lose money at the track.
The worst possible thing that can happen is we rush back to reopening everything too early and compounding that without the necessary testing and contract tracing procedures in place (along with some other items obviously). We end up right back where we were a few weeks ago, with the added kick in the balls of having to shut everything down again. You think the economy is fucked now, what happens then? Not only did we waste everyone's initial sacrifices but we end up prolonging this by months.
Nationally we've compounded the initial fuckups with simply wasting these weeks coming up with a plan and preparing the necessary resources to move forward. We went through all those efforts to flatten the curve and on a national level we've done dick squat to prepare for what's next. Newsom's plan is not perfect, but at least sets up markers. Other governor's have stepped up as well. DeWine in Ohio, Whitemer in Michigan. Haven't seen NY and if Cuomo has release a re-open plan.

Government stating that businesses can re-open means that employees of those business who choose not to go to work for safety reasons can have it documented that they have voluntarily quit. If they voluntarily quit, that means they are no longer eligible for unemployment.
None of these are easy discussions...but let's not pretend this is nothing more than libs trying to be totalitarian or being asked to shelter in place for a few months for the greater good is less important than your freedom to be a selfish douche.

So, let's say Flat Urth is a perfectly healthy individual, unfortunately his wife, Soros, has diabetes and high blood pressure and his kids Tin and Foil both have severe asthma. His mother in law, Sandy Hook, who is 85 years old, also lives with them and has a history of lung related issues. In that case, Flat has to choose.
Should he go to work at the meat processing facility?
On one hand, he's perfectly healthy and his family cannot afford to him not to work, especially since his wife Soros, cannot return to her job at the hair salon and his company has mandated that he come back to work so he will no longer be eligible for unemployment. The stimulus check was nice, but reality is that money was gone two weeks ago. Maybe they should have went with the generic peanut butter...but the kids really love Skippy...fucking ingrates....but with all this stress they thought they could splurge.
On the other hand, the plant had to close because it had an outbreak a few weeks ago, few dozen of his fellow employees became sick and his buddy Lou Manati passed away. He wasn't tested, but hey, everyone is pretty sure he got the Rona. Sure, the company says they will supply PPE, in a few weeks...but right now they are suggesting people supply their own masks. The local Walmart is all out, but he has some old bandanas that will hopefully do the trick.
Of course, if he does start coming back into the plant that brings up, should he be allowed back into the house? His family is at huge risk, and sure, while Sandy is a pain in the ass she'll haunt him forever if he gets the Rona and passes it on to her and she dies. So, maybe he can go crash on his pal Black's sofa for...well hopefully a few weeks or months. Dude has a helicopter, so he's loaded. Sure, he'll miss his kids and wife but we all have to make sacrifices right?

We are certainly lucky that the disease appears to be a lot less lethal than originally thought. But it is still significantly more lethal that the common flu. It is also significantly more infectious than the common flu.
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/antibody-tests-support-whats-been-obvious-covid-19-is-much-more-lethal-than-flu/2020/04/28/2fc215d8-87f7-11ea-ac8a-fe9b8088e101_story.html
Results from coronavirus antibody tests have started to trickle in, and they bolster the consensus among disease experts that the virus is significantly more lethal than seasonal flu and has seeded the most disruptive pandemic in the last century.
“I think it is the worst pandemic since 1918,” said Cecile Viboud, an epidemiologist at the National Institutes of Health’s Fogarty International Center, alluding to the “Great Influenza” pandemic that claimed an estimated 675,000 lives in the United States.
The new serological data, which is provisional, suggests that coronavirus infections greatly outnumber confirmed covid-19 cases, potentially by a factor of 10 or more. Many people experience mild symptoms or none at all, and never get the standard diagnostic test with a swab up the nose, so they’re missed in the official covid-19 case counts.
Higher infection rates mean lower lethality risk on average. But the corollary is that this is a very contagious disease capable of being spread by people who are asymptomatic — a challenge for communities hoping to end their shutdowns.

The crude case fatality rates, covering people who have a covid-19 diagnosis, have been over 6 percent globally as well as in the United States. But when all the serological data is compiled and analyzed, the fatality rate among people who have been infected could be less than 1 percent.
But as infectious disease experts point out, even a seemingly low rate can translate into a shockingly large death toll if the virus spreads through a major portion of the population.

That's a pretty big leap from 1 million to 50-100 million, especially when you consider worldwide we don't come close to that total. I expect the number is greater than 1 million, but for the number to be in the 50-100 million range you would have to say the infection rate of NYC, which they show to be about 25% of the city, is the same throughout the country.
A lot of this all comes back to the same story from the beginning though. The lack of a consistent and workable testing strategy has hampered the US from the outset. Hell, at this point we don't appear to be any closer to a national testing strategy, and the federal government doesn't appear to be working on one, and that's going to be one of the biggest issues when it comes to starting to getting things moving again.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.. where are you getting your info? Wherever it is, reconsider your sources.
COVID-19 killed more humans today alone than SARS, MERS and H5N1 have added together in total since they all emerged. If, just for fun, you'd like to count yesterday into the COVID-19 stats, you can add Ebola into the grand totals.
That's kinda why the reaction has been so strong.

As number crunchers get to work excess mortality numbers are starting to come into focus.

Two different articles today, one reviewing US and one Europe. Covid related deaths are most likely being undercounted, especially in early days, upwards of 50%.

I wouldn’t be shocked if he isn’t starting school on campus in fall.  My sister works at a local college, they are talking about students not coming back on campus until January at the earliest. Cal state Fullerton has already stated online only for fall semester at this point.

primary concern is they can’t control where the kids are all summer, and where they are coming from. Kid comes back with the rona and it gets in the dorms it’s a disaster.
