  1. We probably should have done an anatomy check on CJ, ensuring that he actually did have testicles, before handing him $75mil.
  2. Changing lineups only really worked when we had some useful players on the bench. I'm sure Sosh doesn't feel a desperate need to get Harris or Schuck ABs.
  3. "Become a player, make some mistakes (inevitable), then see how you feel when people treat you like garbage." What's the difference? And yes, the Obama argument also works.
  4. This umpire is? He's in the top group of umpires in the world, Mathis et al are/were in the top group of players. What's the difference? lol, this is just getting sad.
  5. Is there any stupider thing to say about anything than that? Jeff Mathis is a much better major league hitter than I am. Vernon Wells is too. Hell, Bobby Abreu and Juan Rivera even man corner OF spots better than I could. Does that mean I was wrong to criticize them when they were Angels?
  6. Well yeah, he might be better than Ervin Blanton, but he isn't replacing Ervin Blanton. All this is doing is (unavoidably) putting a fifth question mark in our starting rotation. That's not a very good situation.
  7. It staggers me that people think Trout is better defensively than Bourjos. They can only be letting hitting ability cloud their judgment, because Bourjos is significantly better.
  8. It's bugged me since the end of the '09 season we haven't done more to create lasting memories of Nick. I'll never forget and I'm sure nobody else here will, but there needs to be something there for newer and younger fans. If there's anything at the stadium they've done a damn good job of hiding it (there's not anything, is there?). I'm sure it hasn't privately, but I feel we've let it slip from public memory far too easily.
  9. Great in theory, but we apparently had to give Blanton an Abreu-esque contract. We can't give up on him now.
  10. It seems so cliched, but it's really hard to believe it's been four years. It's still so sad and so horrible to think about. RIP Nick, you'll never be forgotten.
  11. It's also worth pointing out this team is built around having an incredibly good defensive outfield. Blowing that up would be as stupid as going into a season with an OF of Abreu-Hunter-Rivera.
  12. Bourjos for Kennedy would be Reaginsesque. Even Reagins wouldn't be dumb enough to give them Trumbo too. Just so I'm clear, you're proposing we play with a lineup of.... Trout-Aybar-Pujols-Hamilton-Kendrick-Callaspo-Calhoun-Iannetta-God Knows (Schuck?) You really think that 5-9 could win anything? And even if it could, what do we do with that hideous Blanton contract? Basically, this idea fails all over.
  13. Control is more important to the success of any pitcher, so you're not really saying anything. But just because it's more important, it doesn't mean you can lose 5MPH off your fastball in less than two years without it influencing your ability.
  14. I'd argue both. Control varies from start to start though, velocity is more consistent. If he was going to remain a pitcher with an 84MPH fastball and no control, then I'd really be shit-scared. But the control will be fine.
  15. I love how no topic can be discussed in this place without a whole bunch of dipshits coming in and making moronic comments about "failios" and the like. Weaver is leaking FB velocity at a pretty alarming rate, it's hard not to be concerned. He's a good enough pitcher to still be effective if he's throwing 86-88, but he's lost plenty of MPH in a very short span of time. What if it gets worse? For me, that's the real concern.
  16. If we had a viable leadoff alternative, there'd be some merit in this discussion. For example, if we traded Callaspo for 2009 Figgins, then I'd lead off with 2009 Figgins, with Trout, Pujols and Hamilton behind him. But as our only viable leadoff hitter, Trout stays in that position by default.
  17. Why his last 10 starts? Enjoy cherry-picking stats?
  18. Some context? Like the 3.92 road ERA (a pretty good way of debunking the whole "he'd be awesome if he didn't pitch in Texas" argument)? That fantastic 4.2 BB/9? I really thought baseball was past the point where you needed to go to great lengths to prove a pitcher like Darvish isn't 'really good'. I guess not.
  19. Is there any more frustrating human being on the planet than DeAndre right now? Oh well, we're in the 4th seed and the Lakers are out of a playoff spot at the moment...things are good.
  20. Losing series' on the road to Cincy and the rednecks isn't a reason to panic. If this shite continues beyond six games, then maybe. But reading so much into that road trip is pretty stupid.
  21. "Darvish is really good" When the eff did a 3.90 ERA become 'really good'?
  22. Wilson - Vargas - Hanson - Blanton - Richards That will be fun.
  23. We could have avoided stranding any runners if we'd kept Wells and re-signed Abreu. Idiots...
  24. 2010 wasn't a true sellout either. I picked my tickets up two minutes before the first pitch and asked, out of curiosity, if there were tickets left. The woman told me there were 'heaps', which was far from a surprise given how few people were there.
