    That or he’s talking up his value in case he does trade him. If we sign a Rendon or Donaldson, it’s gonna be harder for someone like Thaiss to find ab’s any time soon.

    Just fan chatter on reddit and Twitter. Seems rooted in Cashman’s comments earlier that seem to indicate they’ve made a final offer of sorts and to a lesser extent Eppler saying if they don’t get Cole they have options for a 1-2 pitcher.

    Probably. Speculation online is that Cashman and Eppler have made final offers and Cole is making his decision now.

    Sure. And it’s true that Eppler always says a lot without actually saying much of anything. His public statements mean little.

    That’s like Bumgarner and Donaldson. That’s about the worst offseason imaginable. Cole will take 35 at minimum. If 40-45 is all there is, we’re going to have to hope for serious luck.

    Well, that’s less encouraging. Seems to push back on the “Arte is all in” and “will do whatever it takes” narrative. The suggestion seems to be that there’s still very much a budget and if Cole is too much they won’t get anything else. So much for Eppler having no spending restrictions.

    If Cole goes to the Yankees because reasons, not money, I won’t blame Eppler. And if that’s all he’s saying here, that there are other options, okay. What concerns me is if this translates to, “We won’t necessarily go as far as it takes because there’s some nice bargain options out there.”

    Price is several years older and past his prime than Cole and was never as good as Cole to begin with, IMO. Trading for him would be like shopping at the dollar store and bragging about your big Christmas bonus. Only do it if Cole is dead set on NY. Don’t be outbid on Cole under any circumstances.

    I don’t see any way we get all 3 of Price, Ryu, and Rendon. And only 2 of those would be a really shitty consolation prize.

    I wonder if the fact that that deal just got resolved (apparently at a nice price for Arte) gives him flexibility to splurge.

    I’ve loved Rendon for years. He’s been ridiculously underrated for a long time. If it’s true he only wants a 7 year deal, that’s a steal.
