Anyone have any actual details or are we all just getting irrationally angry for no reason? -
Pederson/Stripling deal is DEAD. MOVE ON.
mulwin444 replied to failos's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
Yeah, considering it's the Jon Heyman, Jeff Passan, and Bob Nightingale's of the press who has been fed a shit-ton of information on this, it's obviously out of the Angels'/Eppler's hands which I'm sure is annoying. "Hey, Angels, wait until the big boys finish and you can get around to your deal". -

Pederson/Stripling deal is DEAD. MOVE ON.

I think one the best side effects of this deal, besides adding two quality players like Pederson and Stripling, is that it eliminates the perception of desperation of Eppler's need to acquire SP. Now, he can rightly point to a deep (in terms of number of pitchers) and talented rotation as "we're set" while continuing to let the market play out for upgrades. -

It will be real interesting to see if Pederson is spun off for additional pitching or not. Let's operate under the assumption that Stripling is coming back as part of the deal, that leaves a potential rotation of: 1. Stripling 2. Heaney 3. Teheran 4. Bundy 5. Ohtani/Canning with Andriese, Pena, Sandoval, Barria, Suarez and Peters as either long relief or swing starter. Is that enough? Probably not but it's a hell of a lot better than last season and I think you can see the rotation is also being built with the bullpen in mind as well since there are guys who can pitch multiple innings a few times a week. I combine Canning and Ohtani together since I can see Eppler/Angels really taking it easy with those two and likely having a gaps in their starts. With Ohtani considered the 26th man on the roster, that leaves Stripling, Heaney, Teheran, Bundy, Canning, Andriese, and Pena (when healthy, with Peters likely filling in) as starters and long relief and Robles, Buttrey, Bedrosian, Anderson, Ramirez and Middleton giving them 14 pitchers (including Ohtani). Now, with Joc added to the equation, the lineup looks like: 1. Fletcher 2B 2. Trout CF 3. Ohtani DH 4. Rendon 3B 5. Pederson RF 6. Upton LF 7. Simmons SS 8. Pujols/LaStella 1B 9. Castro C Bench: Stassi and Goodwin Damn, that's a pretty stout roster. Angels are definitely still going to explore ways to upgrade the rotation as they need a 1/2 type if they can be had but they are less desperate now and can be patient in exploring their options. -

Why? They don't have to do anything with either of them except start them in AAA next season. -

They might want to add "Troll of the Year" as well... -

Yeah, it was around that time for sure, some definite trolls were making it impossible to discuss anything meaningful...and very few have the panache of AudiDriver. I don't think there is any doubt this is the best place to discuss Angels baseball with other fans... -

Brad Ausmus was the runner up to Dusty Baker for Astros manager
mulwin444 replied to mmc's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
Hmmm, that would have been spicy facing an Ausmus-led Astros 19 times in 2020. -
The overall problem I see with matching up with the Tigers is they are going to want a young-ish SP prospect or two in exchange for their best trading chip...someone that could be ready by 2021 at the latest or could come up at the last half of 2020 and we need those guys (Sandoval, Barria, Suarez) for depth in case of injury so that leads to offering guys with upside instead. In the end, I just don't see why the Tigers would take the deal unless some good pitchers are included to offset the loss of Boyd...likely meaning no deal gets done.

Sounds...half-baked?

I like the promise of both Jackson and Deveaux but they are still years away. Soriano was overmatched in his first trip to the MLB so, despite his repertoire, I think the Tigers would want a more MLB-ready propect in return. Rengifo is ready to take the next step so I could see him being central to the deal. Overall, though, the deal "feels" light on our end for a potential middle-rotation option with 3 years of control left.

Last Puig mention was from 12/26/2019: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/12/latest-on-yasiel-puig-white-sox.html

I'll say this...if we sign Puig to something like 1/$6-$8 mil, I think we are done looking for a major upgrade to the rotation for the immediate future and will keep our options open. I think the reason "Angels pursuing Puig" isn't in the rumors is that we still trying to work out a trade for someone that would likely bring us close to the payroll limit.

Six to one, half dozen to the other... Could he work at that price? Sure, he'd be a surer thing than Goodwin in terms of speed and offensive output, and he might even take it up a notch coming back to CA, but he's still a question mark in many aspects. At 1/$8 mil, the commitment is so little I wouldn't begrudge Eppler for taking a season flyer on him until we have a clearer picture on Adell/Marsh but, all things being equal, I'd rather they leave the available payroll space for SP/BP help.

Not sure they could have fixed Guillen's shitty personality in the short time available before playoffs...that seems like something Guillen would actually have to want to do himself.

You sound miserable...hope you can find some happiness in other aspects of your life. -
Don't see a reason to sign Jose Guillen a 2nd time?
